'Windows Vista' needs a product key. to buy it permenantly, I already bought and installed with this computer years ago. Help, please

My computer is about 5 years old, I have Windows vista on it, my child said a screen broken out by asking for a product key to buy 'Windows Vista', it will not accept my product key.  It is said that the product key is already in use.  So he realizes he is already on a computer, but it does not recognize that it is the computer, the number also belongs.   Please help, I have tried everything, I tried to run the two discs that I got when I bought the computer.

Thank you in advance,

EV

Original title: help with error message... Please...!

I use a desktop PC of HP Pavilion a6202.uk with Windows Vista Home Premium & Microsoft Office 2003.  When I am back from vacation & turned on my PC, my password was OK, but rather to raise Windows, I received the following message: "Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed in is invalid for activation.  He then listed the following options: "access your computer with reduced functionality (this will allow you to buy a product online key)" or "Type a different product key" or "contact HP to help solve this problem."

I have no idea what a product key is and don't have anything either in the type comes to connect as usual.  I can't access anything to be same to reduced functionality.  I can not type in a new product key because I did not.  I can not contact HP - phone number does not... !!

I'm quite desperate, I travel docs to print and e-mail to answer and I don't have any idea what is happening.  Please can someone help with this not very IT clued-up DTP...!

    Moved from Vista programs Forum.

You should have a sticker with the product key on your computer, on the bottom, or under the battery cover.  I try to type this key in and see if it accepts it.  If this isn't the case, you might not have an authentic version of Windows installed.

  • How can I get a valid Windows Vista Home Premium product key for my Acer Aspire 5050?

My hard drive failed in my Acer Aspire 5050.  Replaced, reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium with the appropriate product key, but Microsoft says that it is invalid.  Microsoft wants to buy me a new copy of Windows & there is no available from Acer for my laptop recovery disk.  What can I do?

The product key on the bottom of the laptop is an OEM product key.  This product key does not work for the commercial versions of the operating system.  The original shipping charge might work on the system without entering a product key.

If you did not, or are no longer able to get the recovery media, you will have to buy an operating system of your choice for the installation.

  • Windows Vista - How will I know if I have SP2 or not all ready installed on my computer?

I don't know if I have Vista Service Pack 2 all ready installed. Is there a way to know?

    Hi Bobboberson,

Click on the Start button and then click Control Panel. In Control Panel, click the system icon. The "Show the basic information about your computer" window. At the top of this window, you'll see a section marked "Windows Edition" you should see the words "Windows Vista (your editing, i.e. Home Premium etc) Copyright (c) 2007 Microsoft Corporation." All rights reserved. Service Pack 2'. If you don't see that you are not running service pack 2.
