I've seen this error quite often.
Error 80072EFE is related to the update server closing the connection.
Mosty likely, the computer can be infected by ROOTKITS.
Try TDSSKILLER to find rootkits.
Download and run from here
http://support.Kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/TDSSKiller.exe
Then try to update Security Essentials
See you soon

Three Windows Vista security updates continue to fail every time.
Three Vista updates fail every time Windows Update tries to install. They seem to settle in Windows Update and then require a reboot to complete. During the restart of the system required, "Configuring updates 3/3 ' always shows 0% complete then finally said the ' configuration updates are not correctly installed and updates to return back and restart the system, then ends."
These are the updates:
Update security for WIndows Vista (KB2691442)
Update security for WIndows Vista (KB2655992)
A security update cumulative for Internet Explorer 9 for WIndows Vista (KB2719177)
I tried several times with the same negative result of "failing".
I got a Windows Defender Update yesterday and only one installed perfectly, but they are still pending.
Suggestions?
Thank you!

You try to run Windows auto security updates, error message 0 x 80070424
When I try to update my Windows security he invites me to ensure that the "automatic updates" is enabled. It is and when I keep trying to update, I get an error message 0 x 80070424. Cannot find a solution anywhere.
This error 0 x 80070424 means "SERVICE ERROR does NOT EXIST". In other words, the BITS service does not exist somehow.
It is usually enough to do this: start > run and type
Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
and press the ENTER key. If this does not resolve the issue:
Start > run and type in these lines. Press the ENTER key after each one:
net stop wuauserv
Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wups.dll
Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\dllcache\wucltui.dll
Regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
Regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll
Regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll
net start wuauserv
Restart Windows, and then go to Windows Update.

Hello, I sent an email before for support, but I have no answer at all so I tell myself I'll try to ask my question here.
I get the following error code (Code 8E5E0147) whenever I try to install the following updates for Window Vista.
Update for Windows Vista (KB971644) platform
Update for Windows Vista (KB973917)
Update for Windows Vista (KB976470)What application or antivirus security suite is installed and your current subscription? What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications? What third-party firewall (if applicable)?
A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on the computer (for example, a free trial version which is preinstalled when you bought it)?

Repeated failure to update Windows Vista Security KB2665364
Update for Windows Vista security for systems x 64 (KB2665364) failed repeatedly(while all my other automatic updates succeeded). The error code is 80070490 (Windows Update encountered an unknown error).I tried the two system update tool and recommended Microsoft Fixit such downloading.but neither resolve the situation.I couldn't follow the "clean boot" option (it went over my head very quickly). When I bought my laptop, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit) preinstalled.I have a product identification number, but not DVD. Is there a way to repair Windows without the DVD?Or...?Visit the Microsoft Solution Center and antivirus security for resources and tools to keep your PC safe and healthy. If you have problems with the installation of the update itself, visit the Microsoft Update Support for resources and tools to keep your PC updated with the latest updates.
