  Error 80072EFE is related to the update server closing the connection.

  Mosty likely, the computer can be infected by ROOTKITS.

  Try TDSSKILLER to find rootkits.

  I have a Toshiba A305 - S6872 Windows Vista 32-bit SP1 I had to install a new Western Digital HARD drive, I have loaded the cd of windows vista Toshiba gave with the laptop, when I go to Windows Update I get the code A 8024, 000, I tried all of the solutions in the pop-ups for the code under cmd, I tried the fix it is but a Shell of power error , I also installed Microsoft Update Standalone Package (.msu) I get the 0xc800247 error code, I tried to make each step under the toshiba web site say it's the Intel Rapid Storage driver, I downloaded the update they had on the Toshiba site and still no luck, someone on Fixya said to download Sp2 on a disk and try this way a different error code. I can't get any help on why windows update will not work all I get is error code after the error code. I never had problems in the past. I just tried the cmd together all the steps listed and does still no update. The codes will tell you to go to intel, then intel tell you to go to Toshiba toshiba said its microsoft? IM so confused.   This error 0 x 80070424 means "SERVICE ERROR does NOT EXIST". In other words, the BITS service does not exist somehow.

  It is usually enough to do this: start > run and type

  Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll

  and press the ENTER key. If this does not resolve the issue:

  Start > run and type in these lines. Press the ENTER key after each one:

  net stop wuauserv

  Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll

  Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wups.dll

  Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll

  Regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\dllcache\wucltui.dll

  Regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll

  Regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll

  Regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll

  net start wuauserv

  Restart Windows, and then go to Windows Update.

• Repeated failure to update Windows Vista Security KB2665364

  I tried the two system update tool and recommended Microsoft Fixit such downloading.
  but neither resolve the situation.
  I couldn't follow the "clean boot" option (it went over my head very quickly).
