Windows XP 64 bit will run on a Dell Optiplex 780 SFF or Optiplex 980 SFF?

I intend to buy a Dell Optiplex 780 SFF or a Dell Optiplex 980 SFF, but I would like to know which one will work with Windows XP 64-bit.

For Windows XP 64 Bit its better to use the somewhat hidden (old ftp site):

http://FTP.Dell.com/Browse_For_Drivers/desktops/OptiPlex/OptiPlex%20780/

http://FTP.Dell.com/Browse_For_Drivers/desktops/OptiPlex/OptiPlex%20790/

http://FTP.Dell.com/Browse_For_Drivers/desktops/OptiPlex/OptiPlex%20980/

This has the old drivers listed in multiple versions, including XP x 64 drivers not mentioned on drivers and downloads. The new ftp site is currently slightly broken.

    Hi Eloise,.

I believe you are referring to Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. If the tool indicates that the computer is compatible then you can certainly go ahead with the upgrade.

    Hello

You can change some values in the registry. To do this, copy / paste the following text in Notepad, save it as a MP3WAVRecent.reg file and double-click this file to add it to the registry database:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11. AssocFile.MP3]
    "EditFlags" = hex: 00, 00, 01, 00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMP11. AssocFile.WAV]
    "EditFlags" = hex: 00, 00, 01, 00

Note that plus save recently used for the Jumplist instead of frequently used must be checked in the Options of WMP - player, as well as the music at the bottom of life private tab.
Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Do I need a 64 bit OS? Is this a BIOS problem, or it will never recognize the 6 GB of Ram? Make the slow computer run with much open

All versions of Windows 32-bit client (not just Vista/XP/7) have a 4GB
address space (64-bit versions can use much more). It's the
theoretical upper limit beyond which you cannot go.

But you can not use all of the 4 GB of address space. Even if you
have a 4 GB address space, you can use * autour * 3. 1 GB of RAM.
This is because some of the space is used by the hardware and is not
available for the operating system and applications. The amount you can
use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2 GB to 3.5 GB. It's usually around
    3. 1 GB.

Note that the hardware is using the address * space *, not the real
The RAM itself. If you have a larger amount of RAM, the rest of the RAM
goes unused because there is no address to map space to.

You should get 64-bit Windows? It is difficult to answer, because there are
a lot of factors (see below). But you need exceeds the 3.5 GB of
RAM, you are able to use? It depends on what applications run you, but for the most
    people, the answer is no.

Here is my standard message on 64-bit Windows:

The advantage of running a 64 bit version of Windows for the most part are
only if you are also running applications 64-bit under him. Don't forget that
There is very little such available requests. If you are
currently running 32-bit Windows, you don't have any 64-bit
applications, so to get a significant advantage, you not only
have to replace Windows, but also of your applications, * if * (and it's
a big "If") are 64-bit versions.

Also note that you will need the 64-bit for all drivers your hardware.
These drivers may not be available, especially if some of your
the material is a few years old. So it is possible that you might also
to replace things like your printer, scanner, etc.

So the answer to your question, it's that it would not be a good idea
Right away. This will no doubt change in the near future, as 64-bit
applications are becoming more available, but for now, Windows 64 - bit often
You hear some additional trouble and benefits costs little or not.

On the other hand, install Windows 64-bit instead of 32-bit Windows
allows you to purchase 64-bit software available, instead
older versions of 32-bit. This means that the 64-bit installation
Windows - even though it may not do much for you at the present time - puts
you in a better position for the future.

One extra point: the 64-bit version allows you to use more than the
about 3.1 GB of RAM can be used by the 32-bit version. Very little
people must or may make effective use more than 3. 1 GB, but if you
are one of those that can, it's something else to consider.

  • Windows 7 64 bit will be hired not my Canon MF 5770 driver

I try to install my Canon multifunction MF 5770 on my new Dell Latitude E5500 computer that works with Windows 7 64 bit operating system.

I tried the driver on the Canon Web site, downloaded to my hard drive and it not compressed to a folder.

When I connect the MF 5770 via USB it tries to find the driver and do not recognize the driver on my local computer and suggests to find the driver online. I searched it online again and returned to the Canon Web site and download another copy of the driver. Window still does not recognize the new driver.

I tried the manually to add the printer via hdwwiz and navigate to the folder where the driver is stored. The installation in this folder information files are only 3 KB, 20KO and 3 KB for printer, scanner and fax, respectively. I tried to install the drviers and get the error message: error 0 x 00000002 "printer driver was not installed.

    Help, please.

Have you followed the steps that have been described during the installation?

Before you start installing the driver, connect only the LAN cable first, don't connect not the USB at the moment. This is necessary for your printer to acquire automatically IP address before starting the installation of the driver and activate the function of the driver installation. Driver and application software files have been compressed. The following instructions show you how to download the compressed files and unzip them. 1. connect the printer to your network using the LAN cable. (If applicable) 2. to download files, click [I Agree-Begin Download] icon, select [Save] and specify the directory where you want to save the file. Click [Save] to start the download of the file. 3. downloaded are saved in the folder specified in a self-extracting form (.exe format). 4. double-click on the file to decompress them. A new folder will be created in the same folder. New folder has the same name with the unzipped file. 5. install the printer driver according to 'Readme.txt' stored in the folder. 6. after have installed the drivers, plugged in the USB cable to the printer.
