When you check the paths in the boot.ini file, and the recovery console is installed, you will always get an error message indicating that the startup path is not valid.

If the recovery console is actually corrupted just to uninstall, you can reinstall or burn a cd with the recovery console.

go here for instructions on deleting the recovery console.

Here's how to make a bootable xp recovery console cd

    Courtesy of JoseIbarra

You need start by booting in XP using a CD Recovery Console, you can do (no XP media required) and run a chkdsk with error correction command enough times until it is clean and if it does not, you can create a new boot.ini file (this is usually one of two things).

    Here's how:

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix the problems and then try to start your system - this may be all you need to do.  Or, you are welcome to just start trying things that might work.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget what you have (no XP media required).

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    RC. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/?p=8    (courtesy of Daavee)

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar.

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

A good idea before you start things must first verify the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.

It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient. If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

    as for the other problems:

    did you use Registry cleaners?

    These can damage your system

You seem to be free of infection, it would seem that a part of your process cleaning has removed a necessary file.

    ===============

Checkdisk with parameter/r should be run. and run it again until there is no error.

  • WINDOWS XP HOME OEM - WINDOWS EXPLORER SE FEATURES AS WINDOWS 2000

I have PC with Windows XP Home OEM version. I downloaded all updates etc is now updated with SP3. The problem is that when the navigation of folders, etc, the Windows Explorer always behaves more like Windows 2000 rather then XP is to say goto, until a level etc. which seems to suggest there may be a setting somewhere that requires XP behave more like W2K. Y at - it a fix/patch I can apply that will solve this particular problem. I want just XP to behave like XP and nothing else. Thank you.

It does not matter that Windows 7 is based on XP and not the pain in the neck Vista!

In any case I solved the problem now if someone else wants to know:

Open any folder, point to the area below the top line (of the window that says File, Edit, View)

Click with the right button and turn the STANDARD BUTTONS.

That's all... now, it is just as easy.

  • Windows 7 family pack upgrade works only on 2 computers

Some time ago I received a pack of upgrade of Windows 7 family (about 3 years ago) so I used it several times to install and activate windows 7, but taking care to have it only on 3 or less pcs at the same time (I went in fact never more than 2). I'm now trying to use again to activate my sisters newly built pc, finally using this magical third slot on this product key, but when I try to use the product key it says that this key can not be used on this computer.

It is a hard drive that it had already installed as it was in an HP laptop and I was fairly certain that, because I could not use the same product key on the laptop that I could put this key to use once more, but do an upgrade on the spot and then using the key. I noticed that all areas of the operating system that could have any hint of OEM, the chance to have a logo of HP and I think that this could be the problem but I'm not sure.

Sorry if it's a bit disorganized. I am not known in the art of asking for help online. If you need further clarification please just

I believe that when you try to activate, it will lead you to a phone number that you dial.  That leads you to a very long dialogue with a machine.  In this dialogue, you will be asked how many computers this activation code is in use.  Answer in your case is 2.  That should provide you with a very long numeric code is a time code activation for this computer.

Hi, I made a user account for my children and I was wondering if there was a way to make windows live family safety warn you before the time lock on your place, for the moment my kids just get locked without time to disconnect!

a warning of 5 minutes a notification would be great!

    Thank you

    Hello

The latest version of family safety 2012 (Build 16.4.3503.728) is now available for Windows 7. With the latest version of your child will ask you twice; first 15 minutes before curfew and another is 1 minute before to be disconnected. This will give him enough time to do the stuffs that he/she must do before having disconnected. The warning will appear in the part where the parental control system tray icon.

Very important note: Once you install family safety 2012, other Microsoft Essentials programs will be updated for 2012 and will replace Windows Live Mesh with SkyDrive.

If you want to keep Windows Live Mesh, you can choose to use this version of work of Windows Live Essentials 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308). The curfew works the same way as the 2012 version that invites the child before being disconnected. In addition, before the update to 2012, if you are a frequent user of Movie Maker, make sure you meet the requirements to avoid any problems when you run the version of Movie Maker 2012.

I understand how frustrating. Generally, the software does not affect any material of the computer/laptop. If you were able to run in safe mode, we recommend to uninstall Windows Live Family Safety to isolate the cause of this problem. You can see the link below for how to do it:

Yes, Windows Live family safety can track websites visited using Google Chrome incognito mode. Navigation in incognito mode keeps Google Chrome to store information about the sites you have visited. Windows Live Family Safety will always keep the navigation history in this mode.
