Windows XP, freezing to log on to the screen.

I have a Dell dimension 4700 running Windows XP Home Edition. Like delay, start the system freeze, sometimes even if I'm on the Internet, but here lately it doesn't let me pass the logon screen at the start up. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'd say the problem seems start, either with the latest updates critical of Microsoft, or when my updated new version Max Spyware Detertor Spyware detector. Tried to uninstall the updates, but they have downloaded and reinstalled before I had the chance to see if they were causing a problem. In addition, a restore points, both before that both have been installed and correct ran system, but once again be reinstalled. Waiting patiently all the ideas. Thanks in advance.

Hello Oz1956

If you suspect one of these updates was to blame, we need to know.

You can get in Mode safe?  Press F8 repeatedly every time you start boot and boot in Safe Mode

First of all the turn off automatic updates , so it cannot install again

Right-click on my computer/properties/automatic updates

Disable it completely here.

Disable Spyware detector Updater.

I think that you will find in msconfig

Start/run and type

Msconfig

Ok

Startup tab

Search here and disable the update, not the program itself.  The entry should say Updater.

Then re-run the system restore to before these updates and see if the problem is fixed

If all goes well turn on automatic updates and let it install the updates. See what happens then.  If the system is still Ok reactivate detector spyware Updater to er-checking the box.

This will tell you if one of them is to blame

If you are using XP Home Edition, the built-in Administrator account probably doesn't have a defined password. You can start in safe mode, where this account will be selectable when connecting. It allows to connect and change the password of your normal connection.

To start in safe mode, keep hitting F8 twice a second after turning on the PC until you get the start menu where safe mode is selectable by the up/down arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If you are using XP Professional, try to connect using the built-in Administrator account. You don't need to do it in safe mode (although you can if you wish). If your normal login screen is a display of the user symbol and hit ctrl-alt-del twice to get to login to text entry. Type administrator as the user name and try a blank password.

I don't know any list of the differences between starting and Normal. I think you can try to disable Microsoft Services in MSConfig, but it's just a guess.

There is a box to check in MSConfig to create a log, but I know nothing about it, or where it would be stored.

  • Windows 7, normal use - mouse freezes when you move around the screen

Hi there I use Win7 since the RC1 of scene and found it rock solid, I'm now running Windows 7 Enterprise. I installed it on a Dell XPS 1710 and had few problems so far. When I start my computer and you move the mouse around the screen, the mouse "hangs" for a second or two, then moves, then crashes again. In even the startup sound I is unstable, as are MP3 when I play those. All these things worked * perfectly * until a lock suddenly toward the top of the computer having been on during a few hours, which was a new event. The computer haddnt overheating but since then this nervousness thing that happened.

    What I tried:

Selective startup, without the elements of startup and services, without change.
Search for new drivers for my card (Nvidia 7950GTX) gfx, no change.
Shut down the computer to turn off this device to save power 'allow' in the option of USB hub root

None of that helped him. The CPU spikes 16% at most when you the mosue blocking, I have a lot of RAM available. Occurs when I use the touchpad as well and even when I'm not running all programs - oh, I have a Microsoft Intelli Mouse 5 button.

Hopfully somebody can provide some more ideas for me. Thanks in advance

  • Windows 7 system restore is impedes on the screen "system restore is initializing.

    Thanks for the response back...

I was excited to your idea to check services and services to load... I didn't know about services of dependant' for the Volume Shadow Copy service and windows backup services... I check them and the services required and dependent services are all started and running...

There is no error all messages when the system restore runs... it's just not always... (Even running overnight).    When I eventually give up and reboot the pc, I get an error message that the system restore did not complete...

FYI... my device manager also shows as being very well... and I gave you on a previous message in the event log errors...

Thank you for all this help and information... even if I have not fixed my problem, I've learned a lot about Windows 7...     :-)

    Bill

    I have a very similar problem with a Windows7 Ultimate x 64 system.

Services run, my drive is ok, I have a lot of space (> 10 GB), I suffer from any other anomaly/Windows error, but the system restore will not end but freezes on the screen "system restore is initializing. The event log is not shine any light on this because the last event in the newspaper it is that the event log service was stopped, some hang up after the fact and did not get connected.
Even system restore seems to work, there is a lot of activity of the disk for 5-10 minutes, then the disk activity stops and then the system just rest it seems doing nothing, rather than the SR. I have no problems to paralyze this system there may be something that simple.  Running in Mode safe is without help.
I ran SFC/scannow in Windows (3 times in fact) but this does not help, either.

You may have inadvertently changed your screen saver timeout, which is a Windows problem rather than a matter of Firefox.

Right-click on your Windows desktop, and then select Customize...

On the bottom right of this screen, you will see a link for the screen saver, click on that. There you can set your options for your screen saver.

  • Windows are not lining up properly on the screen

My mother just got an Acer with Windows XP netbook. When I open IE, the window has been cut into the upper part (couldn't see the close button or address bar) and covered the lower part of the screen (so the Start button was not accessible). Is there a solution for this? I could not understand how to fix it.

  • Reinstall the Windows XP with SP3 causes flickering on the screen

    Hello

I recently reinstalled Windows XP SP 3 on my laptop. After installation, I started to notice that the screen flashes when I try to move or down in windows Explorer or even browsers. I thought that it could be linked to the frequency of the screen refresh.

I noticed that refresh is set to "default to the setting material" and it gives me no option to change to 60 htz.

can someone help me figure this out?

You probably need to update driver for video (monitor) card. Or simply you need set the appropriate (through software coming with driver) discount rate.

Optional: You can also customize some parameters of performance (uncheck the display contents of windows slides & lala).

    (Click derecho - Propiedades - Apariencia - effects - y usar o Atenuacion offset).

  • Windows 7 laptop: occasional, power flickering of the screen

Starting yesterday (31/07/2012), my laptop has a flicker of frankly boring and occasional screen. At first, it was just the refresh rate being turned down to 40 hertz, for some strange reason. However, it is now at 60 hertz, can go no higher and still has the annoying flicker of 40 hertz.

When the blinking begins, it is not really noticeable, especially when the display shows a blank page or something, but it is much more sensitive when I flip to something that consists of darker colors or more lines. Twinkle isn't the white flashing screen, it's really more like someone decided to throw switch rage of light with every odd row of the rear lights.
What is more, it's twinkle isn't always there. Sometimes, the functions of the screen perfectly, other times, I opened it and it flashes.
The laptop is a Latitude E6410. The card is a NVIDIA NVS 3100 M. I recently installed a driver for Quadro performance from their site since my laptop had difficult games (1 fps isn't good!).
So, really, the main question is "do I have to install another update, or do I have to get the repaired screen?".
    Thank you for your time.
Note: whenever the flickering starts, I shut down the computer, and then open it again. After typing my password and log back in, it seems to have difficulty remembering what resolution she was worth, doing whatever it is on the screen a little bigger than what it is supposed to be for a little while.

I turned my computer on the high performance setting, and oddly enough, Twinkle stopped (it has been in this position for a few days, flicker-free).

I think it could have also been caused by the inability of my computer cool itself properly, a problem that I am temporarily fixing with a bag of ice and a case of pencils to tilt the computer up a little bit. The permanent solution is coming Tuesday in the form of an additional fan.
Thank you, you all for taking your time to help me with this problem. Have a good morning, day or night (whatever it is there where you are).
