Should I load SP - 2 first, then Service Pack 3?

Are you sure SP-1 not necessary, States of your website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389 SP-1 must be loaded, SP-2 then, SP-3.

Please confirm.

    Relax and breathe.

FIRST: Uninstall IE8 and IE7 if they are installed.  Back to all the way back to IE6.  You want other patches before you get those.  Reboot after doing this.

You are not the first to ask questions about how to upgrade a clean Windows XP - not even installation in the last week. In fact, I will just cut and paste my answer here... here:

Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).

    Install it.

    Reset.

Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.

Back - let everyone know if it worked for you.

  • LIMIT OF THE SERVER COMPUTER (WINDOWS 7 PRO SERVICE PACK 1)

    Hello

    Nice day.

I have a server with window 7 pro service pack 1 computer. AFAIK, there are up to 20 eligible device to connect to the shared folder.

However they allow up to 11 computer to access the shared folder on the server computer.

When the 12 computer tried to access the shared folder on the server computer, it pop of a statement that he said already reach the maximum of the relationship.

I confuse myself because the connection will not exceed 20 connection and he just stuck the next connection to the folder shared on the server computer.

Please advise us of the solutions to this problem.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Tony

Beyond the declaration is the statement you mention?

However now only 11 device (computer) which connect to the shared folder. So that means that only 11 connection. When 2 or 3 more connections to the folder shared, he pop of a declaration that he State already reach the maximum of the relationship.

It comes to education, to which I was referring.

I don't know why you should be unable to do more than 11 connections. In this case, I use Google to search, type the exact error message in the search box. Chances are that someone else has had the same problem and found a solution.

  • upggrading a windows xp pro service pack 3 with the new card mother and pure install using the original disk of xp with service pack 2

I have an auto build Windows XP pro with service pack 3 that is upwards and I feel the need to upgrade to a new motherboard and processor causes memory and I know that when I do a clean install with my original disk, I lose service pack 3 that will then lose me the Microsoft support is anyway that I can backup service pack 3 for use with what will be considered a brand new computer

    See you soon

The site is authentic.  You have two options when you do your relocation:

    Method 1

    1. Download SP3 form the Microsoft site and burn it to a cd or copy it to a flash drive.
    2. Reinstall Windows with your original Windows XP CD.
    3. Use the copy of SP3 that you burned on the CD or copied to the flash drive and update the machine to SP3.  Note that if you have an original CD of 'gold' of Windows XP without service pack that you install SP1a or SP2 before you install SP3, SP2 is available here , download and save it with SP3 before making your relocation.

    Method 2

    1. Download SP3 from the Microsoft site and it wake to your Windows XP CD.
    2. Install Windows XP with your slipstreamed CD and your installation will be in SP3, when installation is complete you will not need to install service packs, you'll just have to do some other updates that have been released after SP3.

The http://lifehacker.com/386526/slipstream-service-pack-3-into-your-windows-xp-installation-cd is legitimate, it only gives you instructions on how to create and burn a CD of SP3 slipstreamed Windows XP.  If this seems too daunting then use method 1 to install Windows.

Both methods are very good but method 2 allows a nicer cleaner installation, everything is installed to SP3 level and there are no remnants of previous service packs.  While creating the slipstreamed CD may appear to be a time consuming task, in the end, it will be a time saver and afterwards if you ever have problems with the installation of Windows you may need this cd SP3 slipstreamed to all repairs on the installation.  You can create the SP3 cd now and do it ready and at hand for future needs.

    Hello

Thanks for joining us on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description of the problem you are facing problems with reinstalling Windows XP Professional, and you are to be invited to insert the Service Pack 1 drive to complete the installation.

To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

    1. did you uninstall Windows XP Service Pack 1 prior to reinstalling Windows XP?

    2. what was the installed Service Pack earlier?

You may need to uninstall Windows XP Service Pack 1 first and then perform the reinstallation of Windows XP and to check if the installation goes smoothly.

Please see the following articles for more information about uninstalling Windows XP Service Pack 1:

  • Upgrade XP Home Service Pack 3 (OEM) for XP Pro Service Pack 3 (full ed., teaching license)

I've been reading and research on the Microsoft forums and support sites, and nobody has provided definitive guidance on how to upgrade XP Home to XP Pro on-site (both editions are SP-3). I have too setups/configurations and software to deal with the headaches of manually resettlement at the moment. I intend to t perform a upgrade in-place to Vista at a later date. However, the problem I have both of these solutions is that I don't see an 'Upgrade' option when I boot from XP Pro Service Pack 3 installation disk. I only repair and installation (clean) options. (I tried both OEM and educational versions licensed full disk to install XP Pro SP3.) Both are legal copies).

While many people have suggested that there is little difference between Home and Pro of XP versions (with the exception of the connectivity of remote and networking Assistance or domain), there is a huge difference in the types of programs that will run the home edition! Experts seem to overlook the fact that a lot of business applications and business, including some of Microsoft applications, do not work on the publishing of Windows! Therefore, I need to convert my existing OEM of XP Home Pro installation, in order to continue to work from home. Also, the so-called 'hack', I found on Microsoft Support that tricks the registry into thinking that XP Home is really Pro doesn't seem to work. I still see "XP Home" listed on the general tab of the system properties in Control Panel.

I read on the page of Support of XP it is possible to perform this upgrade. But every support response said to start from the installation disc and click the upgrade option. Obviously, something wrong here. I'd appreciate it if someone could please tell me/us how to proceed. Thank you in advance for your help!

Well, if you have studied all the possible options.  then the one I have is evidenced by 'research to the outside of the box'.

You can repartition your hard drive into 2 discs or add a second hard drive to the computer.  essentially if you only have a c drive, then you must add a d drive to your system.

then install xp pro on the secondary drive.   In doing so, you will have two operating system on your computer to start from, alias double boot.

on the xp pro drive, you can install only the specialty programs that require the "pro" version while retaining the ability to start your oem with all your standard programs intact.

of course you also have the possibility of 'nuk-clear', then to format the drive and wipe "oem" in order to install the 'pro '.   but frankly, the dual-boot method is better by far.
