  When I tried to install windows vista service pack 2 (from Windows Update), my AV (Webroot Antivirus) software popped up twice messages saying that it detected the virus ' evil/mdrop-gen. " The first time that I blocked the second time it timed out (I think) and service pack installation has failed. This virus never before. I googled and saw that someone had a problem similar (March 2008). They disabled Spysweeper, rebuilt the facility and had no problems. They then did a virus scan and found nothing.

  It is a real threat from the service pack (even once, I downloaded via Windows Update), or is this a quirk and there is really no threat, and I should just try installing sp 2 with Webroot AV turned off?

  I use the standalone version of SP2 to Vista 32 bit; link above.

  I have downloaded/saved to the desktop, and then burned the disk.

  In this way, you install on any computer. make sure that you have that right, 32-bit or 64-bit version

  And I turn off the AV to install it.

  No problems with it at all.

  My computer has been equipmented with Windows XP Service Pack 1.  I was told to upgrade to Service Pack 2.  Now I don't see shortcuts or my taskbar on my desk.  How can I fix it?

  If you're still under WinXP SP1, you could not possibly have a functional application of the antivirus installed or be fully patched to Windows Update. See...

  Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

• When I scan for Windows Vista Service Pack update (published 4/2009) comes in,

  I redid my computer a few months ago restore to factory settings and restore my files from a backup disk. Everything seemed to work properly.  A few weeks ago a full scan found a worm & some virus which I removed. Now, I have a problem with the updates. When I scan for Windows Vista Service Pack update (published 4/2009) arrives.  When I click to install it, it is saying it is correctly installed (in 30 seconds) and yet he continues to come when I'm scanning for updates.    Should I restore settings again?  After looking for info on the forums of windows, I did the System File Checker to check corrupt files.  Several corrupted files appear in the details of the SFC.  But their fixation is "over my head".   I glued the SFC details below. Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you

  This sounds like the download is corrupted. I suggest you uninstall the original download and get it again on the site.

• Error code: C000009A (problems applied update registry during the installation of Windows 7 Service Pack 1)

  After installation of Windows 7 Service Pack 1, the system restarts, and before windows comes up the registry is updated.  I get an error C000009A 128115 of 387921 enforcement update (/ registry)... error that prevents the system to reboot.  Is it possible to get the system to reboot and complete the installation of the service pack.  The only way that I was able to work around this error is to restore from the system restore point before the service pack, but I want to apply the SP1 if possible.  ????

  Windows update and SP1 gave me the same problem and I used this hole day to RESOLVE.

  Windows 7 is not bootable. Safe mode Windows 7 was not bootable, - stop at classpnp.sys.  I used the line of command of the rescue disk and Linux (!) to fix it.  And then little important reading / advice on this forum.

  Error message at startup:

  C000009A application update 262832 (registry\ma 109544 operation error   (no more room on screen)

  After a few reboots failed, I tried a restore of windows rescue disk, but windows update has somehow erased all my restore point! (Argh)

  Then I looked in the log file c:\windows\winsxs\poqexec.log and found a reference to the error: (obs this folder has some 70,000 + files)

  Next step was to start a live CD of Linux (Mandriva) to browse the windows system drive.

  This way, I found the c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml (99 MB) file and may open in kwrite (Linux).  I'm looking for "atibility.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_pt - pt. Found only in the 114.808 (of more than 300,000 lines) line.  Add a! After< to="" make="" this="" xml="" line="" a="" comment.=""  saved="" the="" file.="" rebooted="" and="" ..="" yes="" ..,="" windows="" 7="" updated="" some="" files,="" rebooted="" 2="" times="" and="" then="" started="" as="">

  I guess MS has created a lot of angry people today!

  Amd64_microsoft-windows-e... atibility.resources_... file is probably related to

  (a) ATI/AMD graphics (as in my system) cards

  (b) Windows MUI (Multilingual User Interface) system in windows 7 ultimate.

  try to download windows vista service pack 2. Last update was on May 21, 2010. For a few weeks or months, the computer can be terribly slow. Often a hard drive rattle sound. For this, I tried anti-spyware, last week I installed and ran AdAware from lavasoft. It found nothing except two small cookies. A few weeks earlier, I had done the same thing using windows Defender. Also nothing. Along with a check disk hard I did not find much either. What end of the lifecycle for this computer, now about 3 years? He was one of the first available vista computers.   (1) after the update of Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 1) for Windows XP service pack 2 (using update windowns - custom) Media Player often has his crush (not smooth) and there is often no image except the sounds and words on the screen.

Windows will not be stopped, programs do not start, and when I open the Task Manager sometimes I see a Svchost process take a lot of memory and slow everything down.  I have internet explorer 8.
