    Hi all!

I would like to know why my computer always returns an error when you try to check the updates from Windows Update and Windows Defender. It also cannot download content Microsoft Web sites, so the manual updates are not possible without another computer. I tried many clean installs a copy of Windows 7 RC (build 7100) and the problem occurs even when freshly installed (no third-party software facilities yet). Also, the problem occurred on a previous installation of Windows Vista, where he would show the same error. I have tried many suggestions made by the community here, including changing the time and recording several .dll files, with no luck.

I have two other computers on the home network and they are both working as expected - flawless updates and downloads of Microsoft. So I think that the problem is related to my computer only, but even after several installs, the problem persists. So is it the material (which I doubt)?

Thanks in advance for your help - any help/suggestions will be appreciated!

  • Windows 7 Home Premium cannot be updated (error 80070490)

    Hello

I have a x 64 bit desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium installed.

I had a moment to try to solve my problem with Windows Update is not be able to install or to look for new updates for months (ask the error code 80070490) and trying to fix it, have caused more problems that I can't fix.

I have troubleshooted countless times, including the use of update Windows Diagnostic tool (that does not correct the problem of update). I also tried to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium from the disc, I bought, only to be greeted with an error message containing: "your current version of Windows is more recent than the version that you are trying to level to.» Windows is unable to complete the upgrade. »

So, I took a dagger blow to scouring the many issues on the Microsoft Answers community that are similar or identical to the problem I have. Some answers have led me to running the sfc/scannow command and also a command "findstr" who has given me a list of files that sfc/scannow could not fix. Some have been classified as "cannot repair" and some more serious labeled "can not reproject corrupted file. My next solution was that I should try to reinstall it from my Windows 7 disc, but try to solve the "current version" problem that prevented me to reinstall earlier. An answer I found in the Community said that SP1 needs to be uninstalled for the resettlement of work, so I uninstalled SP1 and rebooted my computer. I tried to reinstall from my drive again and was greeted with the same error as before: "your current version of Windows is more recent than the version that you are trying to level to.» Windows is unable to complete the upgrade. »

    Now my problems include:

    • Windows cannot update or check for updates
    • There is I don't know how to fix corrupted files
    • SP1 is no longer on my computer and I can't reinstall it

    Thanks for any help. !

    Hi MrPeanut,

Welcome to the Microsoft answers site.

This problem can occur because the device sends data of strength of signal for Windows. These data can be interpreted as input device real, such as the movement of the mouse, button activity or strikes. Therefore, this transmission can prevent Windows mode 'sleep'. Windows must enter "sleep" mode to activate the screen saver.

I suggest that you update the drivers for all devices on the computer entry. You can update the drivers from Device Manager and check.

See the link for update drivers: update a hardware driver that is not working properly: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work-good

If the problem persists, then I suggest that you uninstall the update from Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

Now, download you the link that resets the update reset Windows components from the following link: How to reset the Windows Update components?: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

Now start you the Windows updates and check.

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

I just formatted my HP PC. Once I used the original disk to format the PC. Now, my PC looks like new. But I can not activate the automatic updates from microsoft. Thank you. Shankar.

Manually download Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3 and install them in this order.  Here are the links to download these service packs as stand-alone install packages:

    SP3: <> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24 >

If you are unable to download to your computer, try to download from another machine and moving them to your machine to a USB or Flash drive.  Once you're up to SP3, maybe that automatic updates work better.

Note that 256 MB of RAM is maybe not enough for Windows XP to perform satisfactorily.  You should consider an upgrade of RAM if you plan to keep the machine.

    Hi my NameJoel,

See the methods mentioned below and check if that helps.

    Method 1:
How to troubleshoot an installation fails on Windows XP Service Pack 3
Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If the information is blocked or throughdepends spent on your firewall settings. A firewall can prevent malicious software (such as worms) to access your computer through a network or the Internet. A firewall can also help stop your computer from malware sent to other computers. Windows XP, Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) include firewall software.

Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
Note: Disable your antivirus software is not usually recommended, some software antivirus prevents certain system changing files. This can cause the Windows XP SP3 installation failure. To make sure that you manage to install Windows XP SP3, temporarily disable your antivirus software, including any third-party antispyware and firewall program. To do this, right-click on the icon for your antivirus program, and then click on disable. The antivirus program icon typically appears in the bottom right corner of the computer screen.

Important: Make sure that you enable the antivirus software after you install Windows XP SP3.
