Windows XP "update" option

In Windows XP, I want to be able to sort my articles by Date modified. I can no longer do this because my file is now considered to be a music folder, so I only get the music options when you use the submenu ' sort by '. I have already moved all the music on my file and it is always treated as a music folder. How can I change it back then it is treated as a normal folder?

Desktop.ini files will open with Notepad, when I manually type in the name of the file. However, I can't find a way to remove one of My Documents. It responds to the notebook, but when I run a search for desktop.ini, one of My Documents does not appear. Even after having activated the setting to view hidden files, desktop.ini files don't appear.

I edited the ini file for an another big issue I have, and she came to be recognized as a normal folder instead of a music one. But the desktop.ini My Documents of edition does not to be recognized as a music folder.

EDIT: Never mind, I found another solution for me! View > choose details > there is a list of checkbox stuff I want if displayed in the menu to rearrange icons by, including the update! Thanks for the help though.

    Hi mstinagray,

Assuming you mean Windows 10, I have not had this problem on my Yoga 10 Pro 900 running.

It may be a driver issue. There was a update driver WiFi posted on 3 November. Maybe try to install that. (You would need to download it using another computer, put it on a USB stick and move it to the 900, so you can install it.)

Specifically , that "temporary files in Windows - Software Distribution" are you referring to?

The system cannot find the specified file.

Since we do not know what has been removed from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, suggest first reset you update components by running the Fixit here: How to reset the Windows Update components?
The cleaner method is to download and save the Fixit.
Then Configure the system for a clean boot .

Make sure that the native Windows 7 firewall is enabled because the system must be connected to the internet when the Fixit is run.
Once the system has been started in the pure State, run the saved Fixit, MicrosoftFixit50202.msi and choose aggressive mode. The Fixit will clean the subfolder of Software Distribution, among other operations.
And the latest version of Windows Update is also installed.
When the Fixit is complete, restart the system , if you are invited to or not.

See if the system is able to update now. IF it is possible, then cancel the clean boot procedure and see if it can still be updated.

If the same error occurs, download, Save , and then run
Update system (or CheckSUR) analysis tool while remaining in the clean boot state.

  • Windows Vista update, constantly offering the same updates

Well, the title of my post was just to make things seem worse than they really are. But I think it's a bug, not less.

I just installed Windows Security Essentials. "Windows Update" keeps me showing that there are both updates optional available through the installation of "Windows Security Essentials". They are updated definition for this software. They are two 3.7 MB. KB, KB2310138, numbers are both the same, but the details see the numbers of different virus definition. The definition of a 1.97.1086.0 and the other is 1.97.840.0. If I install one updates it installs correctly and everything is fine, except that Microsoft Update tells me there is 1 additional optional upgrade for me to install which is annoying and misleading. If I install "both" the KB2310138 updated simultaneously or in succession he confused Windows Update all together and go back to square 1 saying that there is 'optional' 2 updates I can install it. I don't know what is happening, but there is definitely a bug in the middle of all this chaos.

Maybe someone could tell me if these "Windows Security Essentials" definition updates are cumulative, so that if you later you don't need all the updates of prior definition or are non-cumulative? Thank you.

    Hello Bigbrotherbrian,

I think that thie problem is maybe due to one of the following reasons:

    1. You are not logged as administrator (or equivalent)

    2. Strategy of automatic updates is enabled

    3. Automatic updates (and Windows Update) access is blocked by group policy

To solve problems, just follow the steps below:

To do automatic updates options configurable by the user (only for stand-alone systems), remove restrictions 2 & 3 above.

    • Click Start, run and type REGEDIT to . EXE

    • Go to this location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SOFTWARE-policies-Microsoft-Windows------WindowsUpdate------AU

    • In the right pane, delete the two values AUOptions and NoAutoUpdate

    • Go to this location:

    • In the right pane, delete the value DisableWindowsUpdateAccess.

Hope that this resolution should solve your problem.

  • Windows automatic updates to doubt?

In windows 7, in windows updates, when we select "install updates automatically (recommended)" and then set the time when to install updates, to just install the updates then (downloads at any time seized in accordance with his will) or download them first at that time and then to install it?
As my use of the internet is free from 02:00 to 08:00 and I want that windows should download the updates and install them automatically at 03:00 (it would cost my internet charges). If I put out there like "every day at 03:00" time, it will download at that time (which I want it to be), or simply install at the time (I don't want to use my day consumption for the updates of windows... I want to use the free part!).

p.s. it restarts the computer automatically after installing updates (I don't want) or to delay the recovery until I wake up in the morning and do it myself (I want it)?

If it does it automatically, is it possible to stop him?

    From: Understanding Windows automatic updating

    When the updates are downloaded?

Updates are downloaded behind the scenes when you are online. They do not interfere with other downloads. If you disconnect from the Internet before an update is fully downloaded, the download process will continue the next time you're online.

    When the updates are installed?

It depends on the automatic update option you choose. If you choose the recommended option, updates are installed at 3:00 or on a schedule you choose. If you turn off your computer before the scheduled time, you can install updates before shutting down. If your computer is in a State of economy of energy (sleep or Hibernate) during a scheduled update, and if your computer is connected to a power source, Windows will wake your computer long enough to install new updates. If your computer is running on battery, however, Windows will not install updates. Windows will try to install them instead at the next scheduled installation.

Through the above information, it seems that Windows Update is download the updates when the system is online and install them during the scheduled installation.
Updates need to reboot the system to replace files in use will be to reboot the system without any user interaction.

As far as I know, when WU is set to automatic, there is no way to restrict the time when the system will download the updates.

  • Can configure is no longer Windows Vista update to include the updates for other Microsoft products (Office, Visual Studio, etc.).

I once had a problem with Windows Update, which gives me a family of .NET Framework through the window of Control Panel\Windows to update to Windows Vista, even if it has been installed and has Microsoft support help me through EasyAssist. The problem of .NET Framework has been fixed, but now I have a problem: the Control Panel\Windows update window informs me today I'll receive downloads for Windows only, not for all Microsoft products.
When I click on "Change settings", the Microsoft Update option is no longer present.
When I click on the link 'Get' updates for more products, I am now redirected to the former site of Windows Update V4 (who is not supposed to appear on Windows Vista) instead of Microsoft Update, and this site Web of Windows Update cannot detect the Vista updates.
So I'm stuck now with only being able to get informed about the upgrades to Windows, but not other updates from Microsoft. And we don't mean Windows Vista x 64 final with the last Windows Update Agent 7.2.6001.788. This new update would be the culprit?

    Hi Unicodemaster787,

Even if it is not automatic, you should be able to get your updates from the Microsoft Download center http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/en/default.aspx

Other than that, your best bet would be to do a repair install and let the system to reinstall the original files and settings.

When you perform a repair installation, it restores the current installation of Windows Vista to the version on the installation DVD. This requires you to reinstall all updates that do not appear in this version of Windows Vista.

To perform a repair of Windows Vista installation, follow these steps:

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD into the DVD drive of the computer.

Note If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, click Start, type : \setup.exe in the Search box, and then click configuration in the list programs. Then click on install now.

    3. Click connect to get the latest updates for installation (recommended).
    4. Insert the product key if you are prompted to do so.
    5. Click to accept the Microsoft software license agreement.
    6. On the screen which type of installation you want , click upgrade.
    7. Once the installation is complete, restart the computer, and then try again to install updates.

Remember, however, that it could undo previous changes to solve your problems of .net.
