  Please, try the following.

  You must boot your PC with the XP cd-rom Setup disk, if you have
  one.

  Then, when you get to the screen with the following option appears:

  To repair a Windows XP installation using
  Recovery Console, press R.

  Then press [R] to launch the "Recovery Console".

  When confronted by a prompt asking for the administrator password - just
  Press [ENTER]

  After his start in RC - type the following command:

  Expand x:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

  (where [x] is the letter of your cd drive)

  * NB If SP3 is installed - then the command that you type must be:

  Copy c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\hal.dll c:\windows\system32

  ... instead, because the files are of two different levels of review

  I figured how to stop my warning high. I just got an answer and it reminded me that I now know why my computer was giving this prompt. This may help a bit there. So I decided to write.

  In my case it was my 'Sigmatel Audio Control Panel.
  I had disabled "allow reconfiguration pop ups".
  This will make the warning "Run a legacy CPL high" lights up to chance that your system can access this audio program. Once I've rechecked. The warnings went away unless I open the control panel. But it's a normal warning according to the manufacturer of my computer.
  Some of you may have something much more serious, but for the few who becomes confused by the latter and have this audio driver, this may help.

  Possible cause would be that updates might conflict with other programs on the computer. Also could have damaged some system files on the computer.

  I suggest to try in safe mode and check the performance of the pc first.

  Follow the steps to check the error code.

• Windows Recovery error screen: cannot get my computer to start!

  After using my computer for a long period of time, I set it down for a few hours. When I put it up again, the screen was blank and I couldn't get out of hibernation. I manually turned off and restarted. Reboot, I had the Windows recovery error screen, where I was given the opportunity to 'launch Startup Repair' or 'start windows normally '. At the launch of the repair, the screen empties for a few seconds and returns to the error page. When you try to start windows normally, the system rebooted and returned to the error page. I did nothing durastic which would result in this error. Windows was preinstalled and came with any disks. How can I fix my computer and recover my files? My computer is a laptop Gateway MD.

  Have you tried from disk running of all of the above programs.  Of course, some of them managed from the disk as the Startup Repair and system restore.  Others such as SFC and chkdsk or event viewer can be run from the disk by using the command line option (and instructions above on orders to enter).

  Startup Repair and system restore has nothing to help?  Try these other options from the command prompt on the drive if you can't even in Mode safe (which is not a good sign).

• Slow computer. At each "troubleshooting." Nothing works, not 'problems' detected.

  My computer is slow, and none of the troubleshooting suggestions seem to help. I disabled all startup programs unnecessary, Defrag, my 'score' is a Norton 4.2 is no problem.  I have 6 GB of available ram 5.75. Yet when I operate, say, media library, it works very well for a few minutes and then slowing to the degree that if I can manage to drag the mouse to close the program, it takes several minutes to do.

  These latest iMac, last version of El Capitan, Pages 5.6.1

  When I run the Pages, or when it has no open window and I click on it in the Dock, a sort of Finder window shows my Desktop files (not recent or anything else that might be useful.) I click on new Document down in the lower left corner and the model picker appears. I want the first model selector and not the other window at all.

  I looked in the Pref Pages... I show selector model selected for new documents. I don't see anything else that might apply. How to avoid this unnecessary window see them?

  A previous discussion (I searched before posting, honest!) I found the trick. In system preferences, select iCloud then iCloud Drive > touch Options and uncheck the option Pages from the list of applications that store the docs in iCloud. I have not received any warning that something would self-destruct on my iMac, as discussed in the previous posts (but it was in an earlier version of the OS) so all is well now.
