Windows XP without Media Center MCE?

Hello

My uncle has an old PC that has Windows XP MCE 2005.
Ater a problem with its GFX, he brought a repair guy, who changed the GFX and re-formatted everything.
It seems to have reinstalled XP MCE 2005, but I can't find anywhere Media Center.
I tried to find the installation files from the recovery/windows XP cd, but none of the exe files appear to be.
Any ideas?
The version says that Windows XP MCE 2002 and SP2 is installed as well. (Which has been confusing because the disc says 2005 and 2002, said the PC, but after some reading, I realized 2005 is just 2002 with Service Pack 2)
The brand of computer is Medion, similar to the model, I don't remember, but it's a fairly old machine.
I also have the recovery DVDs of Medion which, once started inviting the Windows XP installation.
I was expecting just don't not to re - install everything again.
Is it possible to lift the Media Center and running? I tried everything to my knowledge and that you still can't find a way to do this.

The first thing you need to switch your system to XP Service Pack 3, you can download and install from here:

http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=24

About your Media Center, you see it written anywhere, once you click Start > all programs?

A check more than you could do:

1. click on Start > run.
2. type %SystemRoot%\ehome\ehshell.exe and press return (enter key).

Media Center opens for you?

I don't have much experience with XP Media Center versions. One thing I know about this version of XP is that it was probably distributed only through OEMS. As far as I KNOW, if you reinstall XP Media Center, Media Center program should be listed under the option all programs in your Start menu. If it is not this way, the most likely cause for this would be a bad installation of the operating system. Do you have the means to contact your manufacturer and see if that's what it should be in your computer as well?

If you want to do a clean install of Windows XP, here is a good tutorial on how to do it. It has screenshots as well. Take a look:

Hope this information helps. Nice day!!

    Problem XP replacement with 7

I expect to recharge my a Windows XP Media Center in my software existing & data to clean some growing problems with the speed that I suspect came from a solution of repair wrong with a local service Tech (Looooooong story!) In short, I don't have the original Windows XP disc and bought a Windows 7 upgrade. To my dismay, Windows 7 does not load under your data but requires a thorough cleaning of your loading system. I can back up data, but my software was 8 years ago. No, I don't have all these program disks. I don't have all the solutions?

As far as I know, XP Media Center edition is preinstalled on a specific hardware that supported it.  The manufacturer has provided a mechanism to restore the windows, but it was probably a hidden partition or a "restore" CD/DVD - which will return you to the State the computer was in when he was fresh from the factory.  This, of course, not re - install one of your installed applications later.

Your best option would be to see if the computer Lim would provide (sell) a Windows install CD MCE.  If they can not, you can try to create one using a technique such as described here: http://www.howtohaven.com/system/createwindowssetupdisk.shtml

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.  The first thing I would say is to scan your system for viruses and malware.  If he's found nothing, or after cleaning, the problems are corrected so I suggest trying a system restore.  Here are the instructions for restoring the system: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

If this does not help, then you must run the System File Checker tool.  This article explains the tool and how to make it work: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747

  • Windows Vista Ultimate Media Center cannot connect to Xbox 360

Hi, I can not connect my PC Ultimate Windows Vista for my Xbox 360 as an Extender. My configuration is:

Xbox connected to the router, PC connected to the router
Xbox connects to Live (e.g. internet) very well
    PC connects to the internet

Here is a list of the things I've tried so far:

Tried to connect Xbox normally (using the digit 8, many times)
    Computer restarted/Xbox
    Reset the router
    Installed all Windows updates
    Turned off the Windows Firewall
Turned on Windows Firewall, with exceptions for Media Center Extenders
Opens the ports on my router
    UPnP enabled on the router
    Unchecked "filter multicast" on router
Updated drivers for the network adapter on PC
Checked the event viewer for a conflict event program:
    Source: Media Center Remote Manager
    Event ID: 8
Description: Unauthorized window was detected while running the Media Center experience, Program_name window, under the name of file Program_name.exe
I tried to delete the certificate (it did not exist) for Media Center according to the http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/932163. I could not uninstall the Extender (part II) well because it is not installed.

I am pretty sure that the problem is with the Xbox or PC (and not on the network), since up to last month, I've had a laptop XP Media Center using the Xbox as an Extender very well, using settings and identical network hardware. In this context, I unplugged the connection of the laptop Media Center Xbox, and I erased the extender connection data according to the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932208/en-us. (This does not work either.)

Notice that I can see the Xbox when you view the network on my PC devices.

I've been at this for hours! Thanks in advance for any help.

What anti-malware-virus\firewall\anit programs you have installed?  You can try adding it after a clean boot to try to exclude another program interfering.
You can also run System File Checker to help eliminate a possible corrupted system file.  Mike - Engineer Support Microsoft Answers

  • Windows XP (HP Media Center PC) immediately "OFF... slaughter." "at startup

I own a HP Pavilion a1240n running Windows XP Media Center Edition.  From two days ago, I can't connect to my computer.

    Symptoms:

Turn on the computer.  It starts normally and gets to the "Log to Windows" window  (The user name is HP_Administrator we never took the trouble to implement specific user accounts.)  I hit "Enter" as we do not have a password on our computer.

The screen flashes and the box "loading your personal settings...". "appears for about 1/2 of a second.  Our wallpaper opens.  Then, immediately, "Off record" box... "is displayed.  A second later, I am back to the "Journal of Windows" window.

Someone suggested that they think that my computer is infected with the Win32/Cryptor virus and I should get my AV software and run it.  Unfortunately, I can't, because I can't even log.

  • Cannot find the key of windows 8, with media Center installed

Complicated. I downloaded and installed Windows 8 Pro (Windows 7 upgrades) on several machines at home and took the Pack of Media Center that would free. For one of these facilities, I lost the emails with the product key of Windows 8 and library pack. Now the computer has problems and I want to reinstall Windows. When I try to do it via the settings, it says that he has given missing and I have to put in the backup media. I created this earlier, but it is not recognized by the computer. So I think the best way is to download Windows 8 on the Internet and enter the key again.

I have tried various key finders (Belarc, Nirsoft) and that they find a key, but it seems that it is only the Media Centre Pack button. I emailed Support and they said that I need the product key of Windows 8 original.

Anyone with the library could find their Windows product key?

  • Windows Homer Server Media Center not showing the new files I downloaded

So I installed WHS2011 and thought that the library would easily work. It seems that the new files I put on the server are not get updated when I try and view them through the Media Center. Also when I serach for libraries on another device, it shows me two homeservers, one who say no files present and the other who has files (but does not update the index!). What is going on? (the file types are the same as the other files that are appearing fine)

It is a basic installation, the only change I made is to move the directory to a new hard drive and update the WHS settings to point to the serverfolder updated on the new hard drive.

I checked the settings on the media section of sharing control panel and it's on, I also checked on the dashboard and the media of Stentor is enabled.

Why are my new files not updated in the index?

Why two media servers on my other devices?

  • Windows XP Edition Media Center key also works for XP Home Edition?

    Hi all

We had a laptop (A-100), which WinXP MCE is installed. Also, we do not have a restore CD.
Now I want to format C: and re - install Windows - but I have a windows xp home edition Setup CD.

    So my question is:

    * Fact (legal!) Key XP MCE does work with XP Home Edition? *

Thank you for the useful answers or advice! =)

    Hello

The key that you can find on the lower part belongs to the copy that you have with your laptop and it is not a universal key.
In General, you can't use it to activate Windows XP Home edition, if you use Microsoft installations CD.
You can try it, but I'm 99% sure that this will not work.
