WinHlp32 for Win8 "not applicable to your computer.

I have Win8 Pro on a laptop computer and you install winhlp32 to access the help files for the old.

When I run Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu, I get:

Windows Update Standalone install
The update is not applicable to your computer
What can I do?  Thank you.

I installed English American (I work normally with British English). It did not involve a restart. It did not help.

I took possession of C:\WINDOWS\Winhlp32.exe, Donna administrator permission to write to it, renamed and copied the exe from the zip file in http://www.eightforums.com/attachments/f1/f31/7190d1341802419-winhlp32-exe-how-can-i-enable-legacy-windows-help-system-windows-8-winhlp32.zip and it works now.
What a tedious mess, Microsoft did this!

Apparently this fix only works if your language is set to us English. It failed on my own with the British English language. I replaced the file c:\windows\winhlp32.exe with this forum post and all is well. I found it easier to use the great unlocker utility to rename the existing version.

  • Windows 7 - KB976264 indicates 'not applicable' to my computer

After reading the update of Windows 7 x 64 to improve existing at this URL compatibility,http://support.microsoft.com/KB/976264 , I downloaded the Windows 7 x 64 bit compatibility update KB/976264, and when I tried to execute the file to update on my PC Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium it produces a dialog box saying "this update is not applicable to your computer. I checked the list of updates that are currently installed for the number 976264 and it is not there. Then, I went to Windows Update and check for updates available and there is only a list, such as an update of the .NET Framework. If this update is for Win7-64 as shown, and I have not installed it, why I can not install it? I have several legacy applications, I would try to start. Note that I just did a fresh install of Windows 7-64, about a week ago and have barely used the PC at all.

  • Windows 8.1 message 'you could not complete updates, by undoing the changes, do not turn off your computer.

    Greetings,

I installed updates in my Windows 8.1 partition.  Then he asked me to restart the computer, and the message "we could not finish updates, exchange loss, do not turn off your computer" appeared and was on-screen for hours.  I thought to reinstall bootcamp but I have software in the Windows partition that cannot be recovered.  I read that one of them starts Windows in 'Safe' Mode, but this is not possible. I use a MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inches, early 2015) OS X 10.10.5

How can I fix this without wiping the Windows partition and lose my software?

    Thank you!
