Winload.exe damaged or missing (0xc0000221)

Have been running Vista on a T61 Lenovo Think Pad for more than a year and just today (just a week after the expiration of the warranty), windows vista does not completely start.  I get the black screen with the following error:

Windows could not start. a recent change in hardware or software may be the cause. to resolve this problem:
(boot from the cd and repair windows) (actually doesn't say that, but that's what he tells you to do)
File: /windows/system32/winload.exe
Status: 0xc0000221
Info: the file is corupt possibaly. the header checksum does not match the checksum calculated.

I created a boot disk (since the manufacturer did not provide with the laptop) and was able to perform the repair (with no luck) and system restore (with no luck).  I can get in the quick c: through the startup disk and I ran the BIOS screen HARD drive diagnosis and it happened (so far... still underway).

The manufacturer support told me that I needed to remove or replace my HDD and reinstall Windows which I can't believe would be the solution to this...

Help, please!

Thank you.

I'm now locked in battle with the ntoskrnl.exe file corrupted on my computer. It started a week ago when I stopped, I noticed updates have been planned and so I clicked on to install updates and shut down option. Next morning all * broke loose and I'm dealing with a damaged or missing ntoskrnl.exe file. Now when I start the machine starts OK and then when the Windows boot screen showing moving green lines appear, it holds for a few seconds and then automatically start startup repair... After working on what he comes back with mode "cannot repair computer automatically, and when I ask to send the information contained in". I can't find any additional information. System restore fails due to a corrupted file. I have tried and actually started the system with the recovery in the drive but not from this date disc... maybe I'm super tired. I read that you can expand the file in the location of the recovery disc, but I get confused the guidelines regarding disk numbers. Is it possible to buy a HARD drive up, install it in the machine and then install vista on it and set the new drive as the primary drive and leave the old drive in pure storage. Or the problem would still exist? I have photos stored on the drive and more priceless family of financial records and other important documents on it as well. Hi Alan,

It would look like the HARD drive failed (the complete test often will accomplish not in this case) and it is compatible with the winload.exe error.

My computer laptop satellite toshiba A300D

    Hello

You mean that you are not able to recover the laptop using the HDD recovery procedure?
You can begin the HARD drive by pressing F8, choose fix my computer.
Then a new window should appear and you could choose a new option called Toshiba HDD recovery.

If this is not possible then I think that you don't have a choice but to reinstall the OS using a Setup (Microsoft or Toshiba) disk.
If you don t have this disc then you order on this website:

  • Windows 7 - > 8 - > 8.1 Upgrade winload.exe missing 0xc0000098 error after upgrade

    Hi all

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise system that I've successfully upgraded to Windows 8 business. Next step must now go to Enterprise 8.1. The whole idea was to avoid the re-setup and well with Windows 8.
The problem is that when I switch to Windows 8.1 it installs then boots. During the startup, it stops with an error winload.exe is missing for corruption. Code 0xc0000098. All of the keys in the same message results accept the option to boot another OS (F9 I think). It starts in Windows 8 and said he couldn't install 8.1 and that 8 has been restored. Of course, everything is back like nothing happened.

Thanks for the reply. I do not end up understanding.

  • Windows could not start. Winload.exe corrupted

Been having some problems with my Equius has therefore decide to start, F8 and do a system restore toshiba.

Started and started to format the drive. All of a sudden he projected blue.

The problem is now I can not even start until now to get the recovery/restore option. I get: -.

Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the

Not sure how it all works, but I guess that recovery stuff are stored on a separate partition. Problem is I guess you must be able to start to load windows before you even get to do this?

I downloaded and tried a boot with no joy, and of course vista recovery disk, toshiba provide a vista disk. How the hell can I recover from this situation?

    Hello!

If you are not able to get in the boot menu for HARD drive recovery, you must use a Microsoft Vista disc to reinstall the OS.
Or you use the Toshiba recovery disc but I think you forgot to burn the disk because normally you get a message (recovery point) you want to burn the disc.

However, you can order a Toshiba Toshiba recovery disc directly:

    Hello

I suggest you borrow the CD of windows vista to your friends

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

I suggest you check in safe mode.

Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If you be able to start your computer in safe mode, I'd say make clean boot and check.

Place the computer in a clean boot state, then check if it helps. You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
