WinXP sp3 short slow

I have a fairly zippy motherboard, cpu, a lot of ram.

I have a lot of programs loaded and visible in the status bar, the control of malware to utilities that I use on a daily basis.

the system is slow to give me office after startup (I guess while loading stuff) but when I use it, sometimes 1 program running can just "lock" to the top.  even just open a folder.

I have 4 drives external usb 2, each 2 TB.

is it possible that I have so many files/folders than just missed op system?  If so I could remove some of them, and then bring them back only when I do backups or something.

any ideas appreciated.

Thank you

Jim

I saw an article that said that he had been tested with files/folders up to $ 20 million but to have a large amount of files and folders * might * affect the graphical user interface (not speciiquement mentions a number). I have an old server that has a directory with ~ 700 000 files and subfolders and it can be a bear using the GUI.

A few references.

Also found this statement:

(2 ^ 32)-1
is max files per volume. So it is also max files by folder, but you can have only a single folder that big. Of course, no programme will be able to read.

I hope this helps.

  • TS4.1 WinXP SP3, IDE slow response * only * if the mapped drive open in teststand... file?

I have a strange situation here. First of all, I must describe the system:

    • 2 machines both with TS4.1 IDEs installed Win XP SP3,

    • Machine 1 has logical file of common sequence, which is shared with the two machines via a drive mapped "T": sequence files are in 'T:\Logic '.

    • Both machines have paths of research with the root t: as the last path in the search list.

Mounting on machine 1 is fine - seq files can be opened in teststand, sailed around, etc. without any problems.

However, on machine 2, the IDE behaves normally ONLY if you drag the following files to change or double-click to edit. As soon as you open a movie file using the open a TestStand sequence file dialog box, click anywhere on the IDE creates a large volume of network traffic and the IDE "hangs" for a few seconds (I've seen as long as 5) and is completely insensitive (there is a direct correlation between the 'pic' termination of network traffic and the TS IDE becomes sensitive).

I did a netstat - ano queries and I don't see new ports opened upwards, so all this is paid by the regular windows file sharing link. If I open directly from the w: drive, it is also the...

-This problem is not continuous: he has been fine for several weeks and came back yesterday. I was lucky enough to find the "do not open any files from within teststand" workaround and continue working normally.

If you have opened a file in the application, then you exit TS and restart it and all is well again.

Any ideas? It is UNBELIEVABLY BORING.

This is probably the problem. Subdirs, especially on a network drive to the research should generally be avoided.

I would recommend against using the options "search subdirectories", even in the case not connected to the network, since then, not only can it lead to performance problems, it can make unintentionally using the incorrect module because the module where you want to say, if you come to specify the name of the file and rely on the recursive search could be ambiguous and have several possible matches. It is best to use a fixed search with a partial if possible relative path directory. For example, if your search directory is c:\mc-tas and you want to refer to a module in GIP\LLB, you can simply specify GIP\LLB\Mymodule.llb for the path in your steps and you would then not need to c:\mc-tas a recursively searched subdir.

    Hope this helps,

  • Re: Satellite A210-19 WinXP SP3 Card Reader/Buletooth question f

    Hello.
I have laptop Satellite A210-19 f and I can't read any card in my player card on WinXp SP3.
Utils installed SD and card reader controller.
It does not work. Also my bluetooth does not work too. After installing bluetooth monitor noething happened.

    Any suggestions?

    _Regarding SD card problem: _
Go to Device Manager, remove the SD card reader, restart the laptop and reinstall the driver from SD card.
The problem could be that XP drivers are not released for the A200 PSAELE series.

In this case, you will need to use the Flash Media Driver of Texas Instruments, which was released for other series.

_Regarding the problem of Bluetooth: _
BT monitor is not the driver!
    You need the battery Bluetooth!

    You can download here:

  • Cannot transfer files (.doc, .pdf, .xls, etc.) to the Xoom on WinXP SP3

At home, I have Windows 7 and have only minor problems, file transfer to my Xoom. I invited to Skip, Skip All, ignore, etc. but only am allowed to still transfer files.

My question is at work on my WinXP SP3 machine where I want my Xoom transferable working documents for when I travel. When I transfer, I get a prompt similar to Skip, Skip All, but no option ignore and continue to transfer, only to cancel. Since Mico SD card does not right now, I need a way to sync my Xoom upward with my working files.

Someone has an idea? All my research was unsuccessful.

  • Satellite A300 - Continuos HDD access with WinXP SP3

I recently bought a Satellite A300 (PSAGCE) with Windows Vista installed: I resized the main partition of Vista and installed WInXP Sp3 on a new partition.
Everything went well, thanks to the Toshiba support site full of work XP drivers.

I noticed that randomly the HDD LED is on and the operating system is continuously disk access: this happens as soon as I open a new window of Windows Explorer, explorer.exe freezing and refusing to close the PC.
But this is not the only cause of the problem: HARD drive sometimes starts to be consulted while I am using a generic application (this is not the same each time).

I was thinking a chip or a problem of control of storage, but I installed the latest drivers of Toshiba/Intel.

    Any idea?
    Thank you!

    I think it's normal.
Maybe you have a virus or your antivirus program scan the HARD drive. Check it!

I could be that your HARD drive is faulty, but I doubt that.
However, you can test with Drive Fitness Test (Google is your friend).

  • D20 + SATA ONLY + WINXP SP3 32 BIT

    Hi all

Testing a D20 for the company and can not get the D20 to run as a SATA drive only. Currently, its spinning the Marvell controller with a 500 GB drive in.

Have tried to get into the BIOS and disable the RAID controller but then I can't use the HD as just a SATA drive.

The only joy I had is to plug in a diskette with 32-bit controller Marvell drivers starting with Windows XP 32-bit, as he travels through install press F6 to install the drivers for the controller, and then once I hit continues to back installation/format disks, I get a blue screen of death. The strange thing is that if I use our WinXP SP3 32 bit copy of Microsoft license which it MUST be installed with I get the BSOD, but if I through in a Dell WinXP SP3 32 bit OS disk I can install the operating system without problem at all!

All I want to do is really disable the single use of SATA drive only (somehow) RAID controller and install WinXP SP3 32-bit using our copy of Microsoft Licensing with this blue screening!

    Any help would be fantastic!

    See you soon,.

  • When compacting OE in WinXP SP3 I get a message that OE has encountered an error and needs to close

When compacting OE in WinXP SP3, I get a message that OE has encountered an error and needs to close that he made and lost messages in at least one of the message files. I can retrieve messages from the backup files, but I can do anything to correct the compaction process?

The simplest solution is a new identity.  File | Identities | Add the new identity. Create a new one and try it. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

To help prevent that this happens in the future...

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

    And backup often.

  • How can I fix MS Sans Serif fonts in WinXP SP3?

I played FSX on WinXP SP3 and suddenly police dialogs commune, looked weird. Seems like the problem, it's my default system font (MS Sans Serif) was erased, so all elements of dialogue text using this default font to display text with big letters, usually they do not fit in the room and messages are trimmed.

I tested some programs that use the default font by using MS VS resource editor and XN resource editor. In all cases, the default font is "MS Sans Serif, 8pt", but when I click on the combo of fonts, the police is not displayed.  I have other 'similar' fonts: Microsoft Sans Serif and MS Serif, but not exactly 'MS Sans Serif '. I don't know if it's the same font as "Microsoft Sans Serif". Anyway, if I go to regedit, I have not entered fonssubstitution. Any idea on how could I solve this problem?

Bah! Forget it! I just had to copy sserife.fon from another PC into my fonts folder and that's it!

  • Satellite L300-1 has 3 - slow start WinXP SP3

    Hello everyone

Recently, I installed Windows XP (service pack 3) on my laptop * Satellite L300-1 has 3 (Dual core T3200, 3G of RAM) *.
There is a problem: starting time on the computer and enter in Windows is too long (about 60 seconds)
I have not any application on my laptop, and I didn't have this problem when it had Windows XP (service pack 2)
Would you please help me on why this problem exists?
    Thanks for your cooperation!

You must determine what is the cause of the delay. It could be a driver incompatibility.

Google "Bootvis". Its a Microsoft utility that records everything that happens during startup and displays a grid with delays in the services, drivers, peripheral, etc...

  • XP SP3 makes slow Tecra S5

With the original Windows XP SP2 installation my laptop (Tecra S5) works very well, but as an example Card SanDisk Extreme 4 GB SD was not detected in the SD card slot. I could only use this card with a card reader device that was connected via USB.

After installation of Windows XP Service Pack 3 the SD card has been detected. Only a change to the drive letter is not possible because the disc is not visible in Windows Disk Manager. But now, I have some strange effects:
    (1) after the restart and the connection, the computer needs about 2-3 minutes until Kasperski Anti Virus is started and my directory is not accessible at this time
Sometimes 2), the Windows XP desktop is restarted automatically (icons say - and reappears)
    (3) hang up between 0 to 40 if I open Explorer
    4) slow down some applications (like Eclipse 3)
    (5) unstable system after returning from standby or sleep mode (before SP3 mode standby and sleep was workingwithout problems)

It seems that only some applications have problems, other applications seems not to be influenced.

At present, the original BIOS version 1.80 is installed.

Who has similar problems and some tips for a solution?

As you know SP3 has been available for a few weeks and I believe you when you say that the system is running slower than before. A problem is solved, but you have 5 new negative questions. To be honest, I'm always skeptical of these updates and do not want to experiment.

Second thing is that after these updates you can have problems with different Toshiba tools functionality and utility. After the version SP2 Toshiba offered updates for affected all tools and utilities. The question is what will happen now. More than a year, we now have the new operating system and it will be interesting what Toshiba will do with the help of Windows XP Home edition.

All typical feature with Windows XP Home edition problems, you have written on are, in my opinion, Microsoft stuff and they should offer explanation or solution.
As I've written before, I will continue working with SP2. My Tecra works well and I'm very happy with it.
