Wiondows XP and MSE

At the start, my XP machine gives me that a pop-up indicating XP support ends April 8. I know that already. However, I get conflicting information on the MSE. I have heard that Microsoft has extended MSE support for XP for another year but this pop up keeps telling me it ends Tuesday.

Who is right?

TIA.

Salvation Fire Marshal Bill,.

Microsoft has recently announced that it will continue to support Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows XP until June 14, 2015. Continually, you get the message that MSE will be not supported come April 8th because this decision to extend support to the MSE was very recent.

However, after that Microsoft pulled the plug on the 13 year-old Windows XP, you will not be able to install newer versions of MSE, which could potentially leave your PC unprotected.

Don't forget to mark this reply as useful if it helped :)

  • OEM Windows XP - can I move it to a new PC? And MSE refuses to turn on real-time protection

I have been using my Windows XP for 8-9 years now (since 2004) and I am looking for an upgrade of the unit, because the specifications of my mobile phone exceeds my computer and it cannot manage tasks effectively.

I'll be able to transfer my current operating system on the new computer? The old computer is no longer to be used. I have all the original documentation for the computer (However, the license key is on the back of the CPU). I have read conflicting answers online saying that how it is against the EULA and others say that a phone call to Microsoft to check that she would work.

I do not have an upgrade of the OS, since my external 500 GB hard drive only reads on my Windows XP (I tried on a Windows Vista, Windows 7 and computer Developer Preview, all told, it has been altered) and all my programs are installed on the external hard drive. If an upgrade of the OS is necessary, it would be nice to have a tool to repair my 'corrupt' hard disk restore compatibility with other computers.

    * EDIT, this information can be shaped *.
The computer is stuck on the screen of the BIOS for a little more than 30 minutes if the manufacturer's mouse is not connected. The mouse does not work also.
In respect to the keyboard manufacturer (PSP connector) which is lacking after a quantity of time and requires Numlock/Capslock be pressed to the screen to reactivate. Every button I press while he was free is then made a leap to the computer.
I now use a PSP Converter USB for keyboard port, which now feeds my usb speakers. I also now use a combo of keyboard and mouse Microsoft Wireless 600.

MSE also recently decided to pack and to no longer offer protection in real time from the computer. I tried to solve this problem myself for the month and the program still refuses to turn on protection in real time, even after a reinstall. Here is a SS of the error code.

OEM licenses are "linked to the hip" to first on what computer it is installed.  When this computer dies or consider you otherwise out of service, the license dies with him.  Each OEM manufacturer provided a method to ensure that a transfer will not happen.  You cannot transfer it to a new computer.  To install Windows XP on a new computer, at a minimum, you will need to get a retail license for Windows XP (which are no longer available on the market).  In addition, you may find that your new machine contains chips day and components that were never supported by the drivers Windows XP - XP so maybe never run on your computer up to date.

Programs need to be reinstalled.  You cannot simply connect an external hard drive with programs installed on another machine and expect it to work.  The system registry is suitable for the material on a specific computer and its applications installed and cannot simply be moved to a computer containing a different material.

Your choice of only reasonable upgrade is to buy a new computer with an operating system that supports it and re - install your applications.  Your external drive * should * work on XP via the last Windows OS.  Try to perform an operation of "chkdsk/r" on your hard drive to make sure it is not damaged.  If it still does not respond, and then save the data elsewhere, reformat the disk on a Windows 7 computer and then put the data on the disk.

  • Windows SteadyState and MSE for locked user? Locked user _save files on the desktop? Add the locked user language

I use Microsoft Windows XP SP3 and Microsoft Security Essentials.

    I did 2 locked users:

1 locked with custom Restrictions user running Internet Explorer and other Internet browsers, write and draw and nothing much and is welcomed by right clicking on the program icon only run under other Creditentials.

2 power User, made from MMC with Chater way to have more power that any user who can not only surf the Internet, but also play games online, and this user is also locked.

My question is: how to make 1. User has locked protected with Microsoft Security Essentials, cause seems MSE is not protect this account, and I can't be sure because of the locked account cannot see even if it is protected, I put MSE on startup but that does not put MSE icon on the taskbar. If it is not protected is not a good cause for the idea that the user navigates Net.

Another thing I want to do:

For both locked users able to save files to the desktop and I have it unchecked in Windows SteadyState, but when I connect them and when I log into files are not saved on their desktop computers. So what is the point of selection/deslecting in sign of Restriction if the files went once they logout?

I wanted to do administrator can retrieve files from their office soon logs in.

Is - it possible and keep them locked?

One last thing - since English isn't the only language to be used on 1 locked user account

  • Blue indicator of Win 7 circle network ALSO hang Device Manager and MSE does not

I have a strange problem since the recent windows updates.

Indicator of network in the bar tasks displays a blue circle for about 20 minutes after I start the computer. During this time I can't run regedit, I can't open the Device Manager, and I can't seem to activate the protection in real time to Microsoft Security databases. However all the time I have internet and network access.
After about 20 minutes the light will come back normal (sometimes it goes through a Red Cross first), date at which the computer then runs everything normally, if I have my phone on, I get the auto run screen, Device Manager works and I can also start MSE.
It's as if the computer is waiting for something to happen. Device problem? However, all devices appear to work normally.
The latest updates, I made were optional for monitor HP and Microsoft mouse and a keyboard, both of which work well in the era of 'blue circle '.
I also tried updating the adapter software.
It is not important, but it's annoying!

    Hi Carmen,.

The blue circle on the network icon indicates that the system is looking for a network connection.

If it appears at the start, then start the modem and the router before you start the computer.

    Method 1:

Using the troubleshooter from network in Windows 7
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/using-the-network-troubleshooter-in-Windows-7

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

Check if the problem persists in safe mode with network.

    Check out the link:

    Startup options (including safe mode)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/is-is/Windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If the issue is not still in safe mode, and then start the clean boot computer to determine if a third-party program is causing the problem. To configure your computer to clean boot see the following link.

How to perform a clean boot for a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: See "How to reset the computer to start as usual after a clean boot troubleshooting" under more information to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

Also check the link for more information:

Slow PC? Optimize your computer for peak performance

Important: When running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

I hope this helps. If you have any other queries/issues related to Windows, write us and we will be happy to help you further.

  • Avast and MSE conflict?

Hello, not for long installed MSE windows.microsoft.com/MSE. The thing is that I have Avast! Free Antivirus installed on my laptop. After that I installed MSE when he started to update my laptop froze just wouldn't move, I had to manually shut down. Now when I try to log in it is stuck on the home screen or it connects me and it is just a black screen. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Also, I don't have any return set ups and half of my laptop screen is cracked so I only see a part of my screen (I have been using it hooked to an external monitor) and I can't use my monitor in safe mode. I know that's not really much to go but y at - it a hope? EDIT: Has managed to connect in safe mode and uninstalled Avast by moving things to the other half of the screen (has been a pain in the *) laptop starts now fine, unreal... This topic can be closed now.

You should never install two virus scanners. Remove one, let it. If it is impossible to launch Windows, keep tapping F8 when starting so that you can enter in the Repair Mode and use the system restore.

  • 8710 GST MSE and MSE 8510 blade clustering

These can simple questions, but I can't seem to find clear answers to these questions. You can cluster telepresence MCU MSE 8510 blade with GST MSE 8710 blades? And if yes, what version of the software do I need to have each blade running? I'm looking to upgrade our MCU at GST and I want to just make sure I have all the info I need. Thank you.

    Hello Eddie,

You can only cluster the same blades.  Example, MCU with other 8510 8510 s up to 3 blades and GST 8710 with other 8710 s up to 4 blades.  The exception to this rule is if you are migrating your MCU 8510 to GST blades by installing the MCU to the GST software on the 8510, see Running_TS_Software_on_MCU_MSE8510 on how to do this, so these blades MCU 8510 now becomes and should then be treated as GST 8710 blades.

All blades that should be included in a cluster must be running the same version of the software.

  • Only "h.264" and "MSE and h.264" are disabled in the html5 player support youtube video.

I spotted this problem just after I installed Windows 10 and still have not been able to understand why. I did some research on google, but none of them was the case for firefox 39 (and 40.0 because I've just updated!) and Windows 10.

What I think is that Firefox has an open H.264 codec built-in so I have need additional facilities or tweaks to enable h.264 support during the recent generation. However, even though I clearly see the codec installed in the plugin list, it seems that something is missing in my Firefox accroding to the support page.

I already tried to clean reinstall it and even checked on the mode safe but had no luck so far. I wish I could get help or advice. Thanks in advance!

In fact... Firefox needs the Windows Media Foundation to decode H.264.

First of all, let's see if there is a problem with YouTube only: you can play H.264 video on this test page: http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/tests/video.html

If this does not work on any site, you may have a version N or KN of Windows that does not have the Media Feature Pack bundled in? Please visit: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48231

  • I can't get my Windows Firewall to use the recommended settings. I tried all the fixes. I am running Windows 7 ultimate x 64 and MSE.

I had this problem for about 2 months. It started when my Dell Inspiron 580 s have been infected. Tried for several days to system clean up but could not. I took my tech, very good and reliable man, and he was even coming. He has COMPLETELY reformatted my hard drive and we have installed a new Version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Computer works fine. I use Microsoft Security Essentials and also check with Malwarebytes. I keep all my software up to date and check DAILY.

I have tried everything I know, and my tech guy is sick, and I can't get Windows 7 to run the recommended settings. He always tells me to update and I do, over and over again with the same result. Help, please.

    Hello
Follow these instructions to fix the Windows Firewall:
    Download and install repair Windows:
When the repair of Windows opens, click on the tab to start repairs, click Start. Unselect all the boxes except for the following:
    -Reset the registry permissions
    -Reset the permissions of files
    -WMI repair
    -Repair Windows Firewall
Then click Start. Once it is finished, restart your computer. Let me know if this helps you.

  • I'm updating my windows defender and I installed mse or norton, but is not install what is the reason behined it

When I update windows at this point that I uninstall norton and after uninstalling it I updated windows defender and after one day, when I want to install microsoft security essential, then it installs but it is not updatable. I want the reason

If you install MSE, norton or any other program that provides a real-time protection, windows Defender must be turned off.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Defender-on-or-off

The reason is that you want only one program installed and active on your system that offers protection in real time as two or more can cause conflicts and slowing down your system.

Say for examle you picked up a well known spyware, and you had both windows defender and MSE running, they would both try and catch it and this would lead to a variety of problems.

The best would be to install a good antivirus software and turn off and ignore the windows Defender

    * Note that the same streets of wanting 1 also applies to firewalls.  If you choose to intall norton, and the version you install has its own firewall you want to disable the windows firewall.

    Good luck

  • don't know what happened. screen went blue with a few explanations of type and then loaded to press F8 to restart when that didn't work out and reinstalled battery

total confusion. What is the BETA. do not know if I have it or not and what is the NOTIFICATION DLL not installed causes the program will not work correctly. How KERPERSKY not be lit or WINDOWS. Or when and how what's happened while I'm under the impression that they are working and on the job...

    Hi Robert,.

If you use Kaspersky and MSE at the same time, leading to conflicts and problems you need to uninstall and remove effectively one and keep the other - but not keep both.  And you can not just a turn off - just being installed is enough to cause problems.  If you are not sure about Beta, then you do not have it.

If you get a Blue Screen of Death, then the problem must be addressed elsewhere.  Even if many AV programs running, it would not normally cause this level of problem.  It's something else.  In general, it's a hardware problem, but it could also be drivers or system files.  In any case, please repost it here for assistance: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/system?page=1&tab=all&tm=1300700638376

  • Windows Update is blocked/stands/the download. MSE is hooked on the download of the update. "Preparation set up windows." message on farm.

I have Windows Update problems , starting on 25/05/10.  I've updated from Windows XP Pro sp3 for Win7 Pro in January and had no problems until 4 days ago.

-The update says, there are updates available, but by clicking on the download button, it crashes just at 0%.

-MSE did the same at a standstill in the middle of updates

-Furthermore, I get the message 'preparation set up windows.  Do not turn off your computer"when I turned off the computer , but not when I turn it on.  I ended up leaving it and the computer is off when I wake up the next morning.  It does not when I turn on the computer.

-Win7 now has an icon in the task bar that says ' Windows is downloading updates (all 95%). ", but stated that, for 4 days, and nothing is downloaded.

-I have no update failed I can find in the history of the update.

-Convenience store has not fixed anything.

-Remove pending.xml and reboot.xml did not work.  There is a reboot.xml in the directory, but no pending.xml file.  Any attempt to remove reboot.xml (modification date 26/12/2009) generated the message: "You need permission SYSTEM to make changes to this file."  Attempts to delete the file in an administrator command prompt was an error: "access is denied".

-There is no restore points saved for me to come back to.  System Restore has not been configured properly and had no space to save a restore point (it does now).

-starting in safe mode works very well.  Restart in SafeMode to normal mode works great, but the problems persist.

What antivirus application was installed before you installed MSE, was your subscription always news, and did you uninstall it before installing MSE?

Tip: Comodo Firewall and MSE does not play well together. See if the uninstall (not only disabling) Comodo Firewall and then activation of Windows Firewall makes a difference.
