  Hello. I have problems of replacement of a failed hard drive in my HP Pavilion dv7-6154nr notebook running Windows 7. New HARD drive seems to install OK, but I get a Windows Boot Manager error when I try to run the recovery disks created when the system was purchased.   More info: I upgraded the HARD drive from a Toshiba MK6476GSX - 640 GB - 5400 RPM for a WD Black 7500BPKTSP.  I don't see any info in the new HARD drive in system information / BIOS so I don't know if it is recognized. However, it take and pass a diagnostic test.

  If you have a problem to find drivers (such as the wireless, unless you already knew what the wireless adapter model you have in the PC, you will not know which driver to install).

  Just after the hardware ID's for all you can't find the drivers.  Who need device drivers appears in the Manager for devices with a little yellow. brand and labelled with material generic terms such as a network Contoller or PCI device, etc.

  This weekend I decided to do a restore of the system on my Pavilion dv7 4080us (LW170UAR), as I have done several times previously, using the built-in HP and the recovery etc. partition manager.

  Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and everything worked OK with the new facility, with the exception of two things:

  • I don't see my AMD display driver listed on device listing Manager. Only 'Intel HD Graphics Family' is listed under graphics cards. I tried to download the drivers from the support page, but it doesn't help.
  • The fingerprint reader does not work. I tried to uninstall the drivers and software several times, rebooting and everything else I've seen that suggestions on these forums, with the files found on the support page of my laptop. No luck yet.

  I used to run my 360 controller via usb ports on the side of my keyboard and it worked very well. Friend has unplugged the controller and when I tried to reconnect, nothing worked. Been deleted and reinstalled drivers several times, the computer reads the controller and it turns on, but none of the buttons to enter anything. Device Manager sees nothing wrong and everything works fine. No idea where to go from here.

• Pavilion DV7-3060us: BIOS restore file "not a win32 application invalid" (Pavilion DV7)

  I have an intermittent (about 19 times out of 20) on a Pavilion DV7-3060us BIOS failure.  After that you press power, the fan and the light turns on, the screen remains black and lock/num lock flashing twice, pause, flash twice, etc..  Sometimes, the computer will boot normally to Win7.   Near as I can understand, I need to reflash the BIOS.  I downloaded the image file winflash/BIOS (SP47531.exe) the drivers and software page, but when I try to run it, I get a "...". not a Win32 valid request"message.

  Any advice on how to get this file to run it, or another method to solve the failure of startup issue, would be very much appreciated.

  So much worse... apparently the problem is I downloaded the file through Chrome.  Downloaded with IE on another machine, recorded on a USB key, it connected the USB on the machine of problem without difficulty.  Does not seem to have solved my problem starting, but the 'valid not a Win32 application' error has been resolved.

• HP recovery disks does not start in my HP Pavilion Dv7

  I have a HP Pavilion dv7 that I have to wipe clean due to spyware. I bought the HP system recovery DVD and on them it says "to start, insert the disc into the optical drive of your computer and follow the on-screen instructions." Unfortunately, I insert the disc, and I get the info from the upcoming disc, but no instructions. I even tried to make the laptop run from the disk drive at first upward. When I did he asked me to create system recovery discs. I didn't need to make them, I have them from HP. Just frustrated about why the HP drive are not following the instructions.

  If you can not boot from the DVD, it may indeed be a bad disk.

  Also, make sure that you have disk 1 in the first to start from.

  And Yes, you should get a very brief message to hit any key to boot from the CD, then watch carefully for it.

  If you miss it must start over and restart the PC.

  Update: when I try to run Sound Recorder I get an error message: could not find an audio recording device.

  Solved! I ran HP Support Assistant, and he recommended that I have install a BIOS update, I did. After you restart, audio input is recognized.

• HP DV9291ea paved, works does not after having been in repair

  I have a HP DV 9291ea laptop. It is a model of 17 inches with a keypad on it. The problem is, when the NumLock key is turned on allows the keyboard number pad of the EEG. I recently had the motherboard changed by HP/Tarsus. I suspect that they do not have load the correct keyboard profile. (Tarsus) they said that should bring the laptop and he will fix it (free).   This thread has been dead for a few years, but since I had to really search to find the answer to this question, I thought I'd share what has worked for me.

  In Win7, go to start-> Accessories-> accessibility-> Ease of Access Center, click on "Make the mouse easier to use" and uncheck "Turn on mouse keys".

  It fixed my problem on a HP G72 with numeric keypad integrated.

  Here you go:

  1. Set your BIOS so that it uses the DVD drive as its primary boot device.
  2. Start the computer with your system repair CD. If you do not have one, ask a friend to burn you through the control panel / backup and restore. It takes less than five minutes.
  3. Press a key when prompted to boot from the CD.
  4. Select 'PC Repair' in the menu.
  5. Select 'Repair' when prompted.
  6. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
  7. Configure Windows to a point before you changed the password.
  8. Plan ahead a little and create, test and document an alternative admin account, same as you have a spare emergency House key. This will save you a lot of trouble.
