With the help of Windows Easy Transfer - need to transfer the old HARD drive to new computer - old HDD attached as external drive for the new usb port of the computer - help

New computer installed Windows 7 and gave me an option to use Windows easy transfer to transfer files, data, programs, etc. from my old computer.  All I have from the old computer's hard drive; a lightning strike fried either food or his mother by car.  I have attached the hard as a disk to the new computer using the usb cable provided with the external hard drive case.  It is recognized as drive E: on the new computer.

Trying to follow the instructions given by the Windows Easy Transfer software.  Get the software/folder from the old hard drive (drive E), but trying to run the software that I can't seem to do anything on the old disk.  When asked what is the former or the new computer - I respond to old, but no new file is created for the transfer.  When I answer again, a new file is created on the new computer (rather than the old HDD) and then he transferred again to new.  I can't create a file of whatever it is I want to transfer from the old HDD.

I can't use an easy transfer cable because the old computer does not only the hard drive.  I can't connect to a network for the same reason.  I only have the hard that I can attach to the new computer.  But I can't get the new computer to process the old hard drive separately for transfer purposes.  The only other option I can think of is to attach the old HDD to another computer, and then try to run the software in this way, but I don't want just the stuff on the old hard drive a copy to the other computer.

Can anyone help?  Suggest how to get the old hard drive files, data, transferred etc. to the new computer.  What are the steps?

Thank you.

Do yourself a favor, with the old drive connected externally, in the browser, simply copy the data files to the location of Documents of the PC win7. You can not copy programs, they need to be reinstalled from media origonal. You can copy all the downloaded files instalation

You may need to take possession of your old documents folders - see win help to find out how

Transfer files and settings with Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 8

Windows easy transfer supports several methods to transfer your files and settings.
You can use Windows easy transfer to transfer information to a computer running Windows 8 computers with one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 8
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Service Pack 3 (SP3)
NOTE: Windows Easy Transfer cannot transfer files between a 64-bit version of Windows and a 32-bit version of Windows. Instead, the files must be transferred manually using external storage devices. To find the version of Windows on your computer, see the is the Version on my computer 32-bit or 64-bit Windows
    ? support document.
Step 1: Determine the best method of transfer

When you transfer files between Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 computers, choose a method that works on both computers. Windows easy transfer supports the following transfer methods:
    • External hard drive or USB flash drive: to use a USB flash drive, you need a USB port on each computer. If you use an external hard drive, it must be compatible with both computers.
    • Easy transfer cable: you need a special USB cable designed to work with Windows 8 and Windows Easy Transfer and a USB port on each computer. If you don't have an easy transfer cable, you can order one online or get one at an electronics store. The easy transfer cable is supported on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers.
NOTE standard USB cable: A cannot be used to transfer files and settings between computers.

    • Network: both computers must be connected to the same cable or wireless network and both computers must be able to share files and folders.

To decide which method to use, consider the amount of information you will sit. If you are transferring everything from all users on the computer, or all of your user account files, an easy transfer cable, external hard drive or a network works well. If you transfer only a few files or folders, a USB works well.

I have my old Windows XP, Media Center Edition and has been upgraded from the hard drive because my old one was a lot of noise and I feared an imminent failure. I thought that I would use Windows Easy Transfer to copy and restore all my files on the new drive. I transferred all user data on an external USB hard disk, and managed. However, when I go to restore using Windows Easy Transfer, it doesn't gives me not a choice to restore to my new computer. He sees it only as the old computer and I never have the option. Is there a work around for this?

    • Windows Easy Transfer ends with the restart Message

I'm trying to use Windows easy transfer to transfer files from my old laptop Windows XP 32 - bit for my new laptop Wn7 64-bit. I downloaded the XP application usng the laptop Win7 and transferred on the XP laptop and installed there. I used my network wireless existing as a transfer medium. I copied the transfer key from the old to the new laptop, and the transfer seemed to progress saying there were 390 files, which seems a little low. When 390 have been transferred, both computers will report the following error:

Windows Easy Transfer is unable to continue. If please restart the computer and try again.

I restarted once the two laptops and WET the results in the same error.

Should I just try a different transfer method?

      Yes.

Windows Easy Transfer and files and Settings Transfer seized were never so great because they are really made to move (IMHO) from one system to the other * at time of the original operating system release * because they start pretty quickly leaving aside the settings and applications.  Since you are going from Windows XP to Windows 7, use this:

      http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/XP/transfer-your-data.aspx

If you want to transfer both applications - you can spend a little money on the product (23.95 USDs as you move from XP) and get the professional version:

    • I get the error message "there was an error of analysis of the data on your system" when you try to use Windows Easy Transfer

Original title: there was an error of analysis of the data on your system

I get this error when trying to use Windows Easy Transfer to prepare to move from an XP PC to a Windows 7 PC. It passes through the part of the selection on where I later import files then says he is scanning the disc and fails with the above error.

In the search for this error, I found information of 2007 could be be a nero problem AVI.  I don't have Nero installed and I can't find the log files in the directory MIGWIZ.

It is a small (50 GB) HD who do not have much space available on it (I'm not in front of it now).  Is there a minimum amount of free space needed to run this executable? That is why it is a failure?

Could there be other issues behind this failure?

    • Problems with Windows Easy Transfer

I tried several times to use file transfer for my old HP XP on my new HP Vista computer files.  First time I made "all user files" and stopped to transfer to half way and says that my D: drive is complete on the new Vista.  So, I made a start to recovery to factory settings and tried again.

Second time I tried to transfer, I disabled the D: drive and tried to keep it short, not as many files.  He transferred what I asked for, but these files under a separate user.  And once again, flashing at me my D: drive is very low on space.

I did another system of recovery, but it did not work.  D: drive is always full.  I do another system of recovery currently see.  I negligence has not set a restore point before you start.  Women for the India tech support was no help at all.

What I am doing wrong?  Why Easy Transfer work "easily"?  I have so many games, movies, and music on my XP I can't copy on disk since I don't have a burner to work.  I'm not so concerned about the transfer of parameters like many music, although I hate to lose all my favorites in outlook express and web pages.

You can burn your data on CD/DVD or a Flash dive allows you to transfer data.

Here's info from MS on how to use it:

      Windows Easy Transfer

      Buy an easy transfer cable

You can buy a cable easy transfer of many computer manufacturers or retailers. To make sure that the cable is designed for Windows Easy Transfer, be sure to look for a "Certified for Windows Vista" logo or the "Works with Windows Vista" on the packaging.

Buy a cable easy transfer now at Windows Marketplace

Windows Easy Transfer allows you to easily move the files and settings stored on your PC under Windows 2000, Windows XP, or even Windows Vista to a new PC running Windows Vista. Windows Easy Transfer will automatically transfer things like:

      • User accounts

      • Files and folders

      • Contacts, settings, and e-mail messages

      • Photos, music and videos

      • Windows settings

      • Program data files and settings

      • Internet settings

There are several ways that you can use Windows Easy Transfer; Choose how you prefer to connect your two computers, select the data you want to transfer, then let Windows Easy Transfer do the work for you.

      Easy transfer cable

A single cable is a special USB cable that is designed to work with Windows Easy Transfer by creating a direct link between your old PC and new PC. One of these cables is the most simple and fast method for the transfer and is recommended if you do not have access to a network. An easy transfer cable will transfer data from the PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista on a PC running Windows Vista.

      • Install the small software application provided with your cable (or download here) on your current PC.

      • Connect the cable to both computers.

      • Windows Easy Transfer will launch and guide you through the transfer process. Your information and files will transfer at approximately 20 GB per hour.

Use a home network or small business

If you already have a wired or wireless network, it's a great way to transfer all your data. You can use your network to transfer your data in real-time on your network or by using a shared folder on the network.

      Using an external hard drive

If you have an external hard drive, Windows Easy Transfer can copy your data on this drive and then copy the data from the drive to your new computer.

With the help of CD or DVD

Windows Easy Transfer can use your CD or DVD burner PC to transfer your data. This solution is not ideal, but can work well if you move only a small amount of data that can fit on a single disc. If you have a large amount of data that does not fit on a disc, it is possible to use this transfer method using multiple disks.

To learn more about the details of the Windows Easy Transfer process, read more at the Windows Vista Help.

    • Windows easy transfer to a new computer with two flash drives

I've updated a computer windows vista to windows 7 and I used easy transfer to transfer files and the user account. I had to use two flash drives to save files due to the lack of space on the disks. now, my problem is that when I run easy transfer on the new installation of windows 7 only allows me to transfer what is on the first hard drive, but when I put the second disc and try to run easy transfer. He tells me that I need to insurt a disk and click Retry or continue. so, how can I get the rest of the files that are located on the second disc transferred?

    • Having problems with Windows Easy Transfer

I just bought a Dell laptop with W7 installed. It's all very well except the transfer of files/settings. I started the easy transfer and selected the option of wireless transfer. My old machine will connect to our router via a map of 54 Mbps and the new machine will connect to the router via a 24 GHz 802.11n built in the card. When all the files have been selected, they added up to 5.2 GB. I started the transfer, and it worked for 36 hours. For the last 6 hours, transfer screen said 1 minute left. Since the said warning do not use the computer that I don't know what to do. Is it possible to see if Easy Transfer is hung up? If it is blocked, how can it be restarted?

      Tahnks for your help!

Wireless? Windows Easy Transfer is not something you do on a wireless connection. Use a wired connection, or create a .mig (Windows Easy Transfer file), save on an external hard drive or locally and transfer it to a new computer.

install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD on the old computer (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) or download it at (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer).  run it and create a WET (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can have it stored there.

You should be able to easily restore these files if they were created using Windows Easy Transfer in Windows Vista. Simply click Start, type: easy Windows press enter on your keyboard

Follow the wizard screen, select the type of support that you restore your files, select the computer that you restore, navigate to its location, select the file .mig Windows Easy Transfer and click on restore.

The Windows Easy Transfer Wizard, then analyze the content of the files and ask you what you want to restore if multiple accounts have also been supported.

Once you have confirmed that you want to restore, click transfer to begin the restore process, after it is complete, the wizard will propose programs, you need to reinstall, and a list of what it has been transferred, you will be asked to restart your system to apply permanently changes.
