Hello, this is my first time posting here, because I'm in desperate mode! I have a HP Pavilion Slimline s5304y using Windows 7, desktop pc that I bought in February 2010.
After getting a virus on my computer, I ordered system of HP recovery disks, and made to factory settings recovery process (twice!), however, during the Windows install process, it never cross the blue HP Invent screen that says:
-Do not turn off your PC during this unique installation process
-Your PC will restart several times during the installation process
-Messages may appear on your screen. Ignore these messages until you are prompted to restart or shut down your PC
To the bottom of the screen, it keeps saying "Please wait...". "with a green scroll bar. What I see is the buttom to start at the bottom left corner but I am not able to access anything whatsoever and I never get my desktop screen or the desktop icons. I restarted and closed several times, and as soon as I log on windows, I just get the same blue screen.
The 2nd time I did the recovery process, I let him continue overnight (just in case I was not waiting long enough) and my computer never stop as it was supposed to when the installation is complete. In addition, the whole process, I looked the first time around and my computer never restarted as he said he was supposed to; It seems to just be stuck for the rest of the installation procedure for windows. There finally comes to switch to "standby" mode.
I have nothing plugged on the other except the power cord, monitor, and keyboard/mouse. I have not installed new hardware since I bought the computer.
I did a test of diagnosis and everything going on.
I tried to get help from HP Support, but because I am out of the warranty period, they cannot help me and want to charge me $99!

Assuming that maybe that's a problem with the recovery discs, it is a simple work-around if you have (or can borrow) an installation disc Windows 7 at retail which is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - IE if your PC comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, it comes to the exact retail version that you would need.
If you do not access to the retail drives, you can create an installation disk yourself - just download good picture disc from the link below and use an app like ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly on a blank DVD. These Images are clean and a well respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
Use the disk to perform the installation, enter the activation key of Windows on the sticker COST on your PC on demand, and when the installation is complete, use the 'method of phone", described in detail in the link below to activate the operating system - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who want just a new installation of Windows 7 without additional software load normally delivered with OEM installations.

Since then, yesterday evening firefox is not running at its normal pace. I use a Windows XP SP3 & my os of Intel D915GVWB motherboard. I use AVG free antivirus & my windows all updates are only on the date.
What I've been finding that after a few days, my network (LAN) turns off completely, I can not connect to the Internet. I can't see anything with the yellow question mark in device under network adapter Manager. In fact the branch of network adapter is totally absent here. So I check the hidden items, but the Intel Pro 100 n/w adapter is missing. It shows that some in the list but all irrelevant.
Also, when I try to reinstall the driver through my CD of intel, nothing works. Infact the CD intel don't watch not the driver LAN on menu autorun. It shows just the audio, the graphics accelerator and the chipset. No LAN driver doesn't show at all!
I tried would continue the XP using my original CD but its does not work. Finally, I have to reinstall my XP again. It takes a lot of time & I'm losing all my data on the C drive.
Can anyone suggest me what can be the issue. Why this network drivers go off & why.

Go to control panel > network and Internet > network sharing Center
Click on "Change adapter settings" in the left pane.
Right click on your map. Select "Properties".
There will be a box titled "this connection uses the following items."
Uncheck anything that looks like it was installed by a third party (AVG, Avast, ZoneAlarm). In my case, the culprit was 'HTC NDIS Protocol Driver", who was installed by the software of my phone (HTC). Because it's not obvious what to uncheck, here is what I currently have checked in my system of work which should not cause a problem:

I just signed up on this forum because I hope you guys can help me with a really strange problem.
I recently bought a Satellite Pro C850-1MX
It came with Win8, but given that I don't really like Win8, I bought an additional Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) license and installed on the laptop.The problem I describe, also arrived on 8 to win, which makes it even more strange.
As soon as I connect a cable to the RJ-45 port, Windows tells me, that the LAN connection is not connected.
As soon as I unplug the cable, Windows starts looking for a network and actually found one!So, the only way to connect to my LAN cable is... I have activate the LAN connection, wait that it detects a network (without the cable connected!) and meanwhile to connect the cable to the network port.
Now... If I disconnect the cable once again, Windows still shows its connected.I must say, that I am a Director of professional network for more than 10 years now, so I should know my systems, but this never happened to me before. Event log shows nothing, re-installing drivers did nothing either. IM quite confused here and I hope you guys can help me.

Error code 10 is generated when the Device Manager cannot start the hardware device and usually its caused by obsolete or corrupt drivers.
So I think that the driver installation should help solve this problem.I would recommend this as:
-Go to Device Manager and uninstall the driver LAN
-Restart the laptop but don t install the driver
-Install the CCleaner and clean the registry
-Restart the computer once more
-Then go to Device Manager, select the network card (Ethernet controller) and install the downloaded driverAs an option, I would recommend test page of Intel LAN driver.

I plugged my laptop to a SBRIO using a cable, I also did the same mask subnet the SBRIO and my wireless connection for laptop is also active. I run an application to transfer files from the network to the SBRIO. I was able to download the files from the network using the wireless, but when I try to transfer the files from the laptop to the SBRIO the application attempts to use the wireless instead of the connection to the local network. Is there anyway that I can apply to use the LAN connection instead of wireless?

You must manually configure the settings for the SBRIO and map NETWORK cable on the PC. They must be presented on the same subnet. Using the crossover cable, you can configure your PC to use an address like 192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Configure the SBRIO to use an address as 192.168.0.11 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The PC uses the network connection by default for all addresses that do not match the specific subnet on teaching secondary (cable in your case) NIC
