Writable Volume models - differences?

Hoping someone can get an idea on what the differences are (as appropriate) and when to use the different models of accessible Volume writable? Here are my assumptions of the model types:

  • template_uia_only - user installed Apps
  • Profile of template_uia_plus - user installed Apps + user profile settings
  • template_profile_only - user profile settings

Each model is set up as a thin 10 GB configured VMDK and seem to contain the same files for each type. Is there a global impact, or required for the use of a model on another type?

TIA,

-Jason

About the documentation, you're not alone, I really hope we can get more technical documentation...

What is happening is that the Appvolumes filter driver can see those that are written in this place, and because you're using a common desktop computer (which return to its basic configuration) all changes are written automatically in writing accessible volume using a mount point...

Not all the files and registry settings are in accessible volume in writing, however, some information will be filtered and discarded as tips and temporary files...

Keep in mind to create an image of gold with a different user who receives an accessible volume in writing. Otherwise, there will be one profile folder, in the gold statue that will be also the same as that of the available volume in writing, and this can cause stability problems... And don't forget to completely refresh the machine after use.

  • Capture settings App stack in writable Volume

    Hello

Is it possible to capture changes in the settings of programs within an AppStack using writable Volumes?

We have a set of accounts that records the lists of company in the program data directory. These data are different for every user who uses the program. Ideally we want to roll out the program in an AppStack rather than installation on the base image, but users will constantly lose their settings unless we can store the data in some way.

If we deploy the program through an AppStack with an accessible volume in writing attached will be changes to the program get saved or not?

    Thank you!

Yes. Please use writable volume (which are unique for each user) to save the data specific to the user or application settings.

  • Folder redirection folders and writable Volumes

If we use the folder redirection via GPO for our desktop view and also deploy writable volumes, how can we be sure that writable volumes does not store the same file data which is already redirected? For example, if a user stored a 20 GB on the desktop file, and we have the folder redirection by storing this safe to say the home directory of the user, how can we ensure that accessible volumes in writing is not to store this 20 GB file too?

    Thank you

    Hey Iforbes,

We also use the folder redirection in our virtual machine as well as writable volumes.

As a reference, Appvolumes does nothing different that would make a 'normal' Windows machine I mean, it's that writable volumes stores no information that is not written on their local drive.

If you configure the folder redirection and files of succeeeds redirection of files stored on the homedrive because windows sees this directory as the location to store the information, it is not stored locally. However, if for the folder redirection for some reason fails and that the Office IS stored locally, information will be saved in the accessible volume writable.

Because the folder redirection is performed at the opening session that it is already in place when the user connects so information will not be stored on the available volume in writing. We do this successfully with desktop, my documents (and subfolders) and downloads and it works like a charm.

  • The writable volumes - hang on logoff

    Hello

sometimes on logoff when an accessible writable volume is assigned to a user, the logoff process hangs, remaining in "Signing out" forever. I have to reset or power of the VM off the coast. Is this a known bug or I do something wrong?

    Kind regards

    Cristiano

    Hey,.

It looks that I do these days in a lot of the assumptions

If you use accessible volumes in writing, you need to refresh the desktop whenever you used it because otherwise the settings of a user might be in accessible volume in writing of another user.

Although I would still say (if possible out of the classroom due to high IOPS / s) to refresh the desktop if you use pooled floating desktop computers.

  • AT10LE - model differences?

    Hello

Son of learning has split the screen on his Tablet AT10LE-A108 excite Pro and I would like to try DIY repair because it is very attached to it!

Via Ebay, I can find a screen at reasonable price / digitizer but it says it's only for the model A109.

As far as I can tell (Toshiba docs on this are poor online) the A109 is the 32 GB of the A108 model, so I'm willing to consider taking a risk and the purchase of the A109 screen on the grounds that it is very likely to be the same component.

Anyone has any info on this at all? for example the differences of A109/A108 confirm or direct me to a source reasonable price of a specific screen A108?

    Thanks in advance!

    Matt

    Hello.
I also have the problem with the broken screen. my tablet is AT10LE-A-107. What is the adjustment of the A109 screen? who knows?

  • Profile of 2013 perspective not saved with writable volume App Volumes

    Hi all

We are testing to see if the Volumes of the App is the good addition to our virtual desktop environment.

Currently, I have a floating office pool with a stack of App including Office 2013 installed and accessible volume writable for the profile and the UIA.

Add records are carried over when you sign and return, but when I create a new Outlook profile, he is lost, when I connect.

Volumes of app is 2.9 V, view is 6.1

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like the ntuser.dat in well known bug that is not loaded in the VDI, when connecting.

Simply run the following command (or manually add the key) to the statue of gold and your good to go.

    Reg.exe add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\svservice\parameters/t REG_DWORD v VolDelayLoadTime d 0 f

  • Is there a (best practices concerning the) maximum volume of Appstack size?

I can't find the specific recommendations on the maximum size of an appstack.

We want to create a model of 50 GB or even more. Someone at - it experience with this scenario?

The default size is 20GB, so if you want to create an appstack which is 50 GB you will need to create a new model with 50 GB of disk space.

I've heard of writable volumes (not appstacks, I know, but still it's just as a reference) are large 100 GB. The maximum file size of the appstack, as far as I can see, is limited to the file size VMWare supports (somewhere in the terabytes? Anyone?). If my guess is that 50 GB should be easily achievable.

  • Volume App storage groups

Has someone already implemented App Volumes storage groups?

I've set up a group of storage with the following parameters:

    • Automation: "Appstacks of auto import" and "Automatic Appstacks replicate" active
    • Distribution strategy: left by default to "spread" that this only applies to writable volumes according to the documentation and I don't use the accessible volumes in writing
    • Storage of model: I chose here the LUN where my appstacks
    • Selection of storage: Direct
    • Storage: I chose here the LUN I want my appstacks to replicate to

    but nothing seems to happen.

    I'm doing something wrong?

Looks like you selected only 1 storage location. You must select 1 more data store for replication to occur. Typically, you would select the data store that you create the appstacks on (the same data store that you used for the storage of model) and data 1 or more additional warehouses to replicate. So, using the direct selection of storage, you must have a minimum of 2 warehouses of verified data.

  • App Volumes/Writeable discs and user data layer Design

Could someone provide some details about how/why you would use writeable discs instead of, or in conjunction with view Persona and/or roaming profiles? Based on the documentation I've read, it seems that writable disks are used only to store settings specific app volume and/or requests for the selected user. I understand the concept of storage of the applications of the user on the recordable disc, but what is the advantage of storing data of configuration on those disks if you already have a solution in place? If writeable discs is designed to support desktop persistent psudo would not always need a Persona management solution to manage other user settings?

    Thank you!

The writable volume is capable of storing user installed applications, profile data, or both depending on the model used in the creation. The reason why you would use one over the other can be simplified by explaining to the base that the Volumes of the App with data on the volume. Application of volume provides data. It changes nothing after delivery. Several solutions Manager user environment settings in some way. It's not that the App Volumes. So if you for example need to change application settings that are from a SQL database somewhere, there is a solution like Persona, AppSence, Immidio, etc comes into the mix. Volumes of app is able to provide a local profile as an accessible volume in writing. If you use roaming profiles, for example, the Volumes App can do a very good replacement. If you use AppSence to draw a frame based on some contextual connection settings, continue to do.

  • Hard drive replacement and warranty question Portege and Tecra models

    Good afternoon

I'm hoping for a little clarity if a laptop warranty is invalidated if the hard drive is replaced for another title of model/difference. The company that I work buys models Tecra and Portege for these last years, if we decide to buy more large hard disks and get our IT Department install them will be that gap in the agreement of guarantee with Toshiba?

I talked to Toshiba and they were a little gray in their response. They said that, if you didn't damage the laptop, it should be fine, but if you send it as an unrelated question, with what they can carry out repairs on the laptop if the hard drive does not match the orgional one provided...

Can somone if this is the case? It seems ridiculous that you would not be able to replace the drive even if bought from an official and used dealer in a corporate environment.

    Kind regards

    Jonsey

As much as I know RAM and HDD upgrade do not negate the warranty. For many models of laptops, you can find instruction how to do this. It is described in the document of the user s manual or you can find short videos on Toshiba documents (knowledge base).

Even on this forum in the USER SELF REPLACEMENT section you will find instructions how to replace the hard drives.

What you can also do is to contact the nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and check what they say on this subject.

  • volume of the app and persistent discs

    I have a clone-related persistent + pool

now I start to use the Volume of the App and have a question

I can use the persistent disk + accessible volume writable by uia

or an accessible volume writable for the uia and profile persistent diskless

accessible volume writable for the profile and persistent disk works together?

Yes. As far as I know, manually migrate the data is the only option and I'm not aware of all the tools to automatically migrate the data into writable volumes.

  • Restarting Volumes App management

By the documentation during the upgrade, you must detach all users before the upgrade. Already, which is not that pretty. I could not find if the same trap awaits you for simple reboots (e.g. for the patching Windows operating system). What I also kick users off the power before you restart or do I risk suddenly disconnects if I just reboot? We have 2 data centers with 4 heads on each side. The process would be everyone switch to DC1 to DC2 and then patch DC1. Vice versa when I do of DC2. Should we go this way? I hope that I can just reboot 1 Manager both because I have their patch.

The problem is when you check a script runs that deletes all appstacks and writable volumes of all machines.

We do not check the box at all. The only reason (AFAIK) check the box when you uninstall effectively all managers. When you upgrade to level 1 and balancing, you will always have 1 available appvolumes handler. The thing is if you do with the last server you will end up with an inconsistent database.

On the other hand. The old version of Manager was a bug that it cleaned the way of fast database. The worst thing that can happen is that you have to manually reconfigure a few machines (believe me once you've done 200 is not funny).

  • Accessible volumes in writing and correction

What happens if a user has an accessible volume writable and it installs applications with plugins or .net version... etc. and then I assign an Appstack with the same apps, plugins etc.

The last wins appstack know if there is a conflict of app, but how patch Apps in volumes writeable etc. when there are duplicates?

    Thank you!

Different for different applications. In any case the writable volumes always accompany the last and take precedence, on what the base image.

But .NET is special. I have found that having a .NET application in writable volume and .NET applications in image gold or another volume of the app has been problematic for me. In a support call, I was told to have .NET applications all in a single application battery when I got problems with some applications in a stack of application does not.

Other applications that test users have, like browsers, are updates of accessible volume in writing. As a firefox downloaded that day for the user. But if I then try to firefox in a pile of app or OS layer virtual machine "is not" really see it from the accessible volume writable "wins." Or I have two versions of firefox, my other and an older version of accessible volume in writing.  They need to get a feature as Unidesk has which can substitute accessible volume writable and resolve conflicts so a battery App can 'win' and IT can replace what the user has done. But I'm not sure that it is as simple as it sounds.

  • Adjust the space put into service for AppStack?

I hope that's not too obvious, but I'm not clear on how to adjust the storage provisioned that takes an AppStack. When you create an accessible writable volume, the system asks the storage space that you want to configure for this. AppStacks do not, and seem to be defaulting to 20 GB in my 2.10 environment assessment. Only this value from the template.vmdk assigned in Config > storage for AppStacks? I don't see anything in the center of doc to 2.10 on create or adjust the existing template and Adobe Reader just doesn't have much wiggle room! =)

Any help appreciated - thanks in advance!

Apparently I missed this KB, which solves the specific problem I look: VMware KB: creating an App AppStack VMDK Volumes smaller than 20 GB model

Do not hold account, will test and reconfig based on the KB. Move along!
