WRT54G and WRT160NL Torrents

OK so here is my setup. I have a wrt54g directly on my access to the internet at home. There his hard cable to my wrt160nl where my desktop computer is connected. I would like to open a port for a torrent program to use, but I have no idea how to do that. Ive looked around a few guides but haven't found one that works. any help is really appreciated! (im sure this has been posted b4 but still, I couldn't find any soultions for my situation)

If you want to run the two WRT as a router and have two separate local networks, you will have a much more complicated installation and the port forwarding for your torrents can turn out to be complicated, if not impossible. You must configure the port forwarding on both routers.

I highly recommend to use a single router with a LAN configuration. The second router will be used as a switch access point and equipment.

For example like this:

1. the WRT54G connect to your modem and a address LAN IP 192.168.1.1.

2. the WRT160NL is configured with the address LAN IP 192.168.1.2. DHCP server disabled.

3. the WRT160NL is connected by one of its ports LAN for the WRT54G. Do not use the internet port of the WRT160NL.

The WRT54G deals now all functions related to the internet. Customers on the WRT160NL connect directly to your local network and through the WRT54G to internet. Port forwarding must be configured on the WRT54G and there only. It's the simplest and probably most reliable installation for you.

Of course, you can also swap the two routers in the previous configuration, either you use the WRT160NL as internet gateway and the WRT54G only as an access point.

The access points in both routers must be configured with different SSID as they use differnet wireless standards (unless you spend the WRT160NL wireless-g only).

I have a wrt54g (192.168.1.1) with the internet arrives in the port of the internet. From there, the exit number 1 (LAN) he's wired to the wrt160nl (192.168.1.10) 1 port (LAN).

    My questions are the following:
    1. do I need to use the same SSID?
2 is necessary to use the same channel or is it better to use a different channel?

Another problem is that I need to restart the wrt160nl to access the configuration page, but it seems that it is a common problem for users wrt160nl.

You can use the same SSID but use different channels, like 1 & 6, 6 & 11 or 1 & 11 in order to reduce interference channel crosstalk.

  • Cannot complete the installation on WRT54GS and connect to internet

Hello everyone.  I recently was good to a WRT54GS v.2, which came from a member of the family which has improved their wireless router and therefore passed it along to me.  It worked perfectly for them, but not me.

I tried to use the installation CD and do a manual installation, but no internet connection is detected.  I have to admit being a total newbie router wireless, this is my first, so I am confused as what to do then.  I looked through the forum and the FAQ, but I don't know what could be applied to my situation and I am not very well versed in the terminology, I tend to get lost.

If someone could be kind enough to help me out or point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you!

OK, I have another update, lol.

I have just gone to the configuration page and decided that, what the devil, I would return the automatic DHCP settings instead of the PPPoE to see what is happening, and here I can now browse the internet!  Certainly, it's Wired installation and now I have to set up our second computer with the network adapter hope it will connect with the wireless router, which is the point of this whole exercise, but at least, I'm a lot closer.  No baby, lol.

Thank once again for all the kind help.

  • WRT54GS and xbox wireless

Maybe a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.  Just bought XBox 360.  Have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router.  Do I need to buy a wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 or a rest and all I have to do is set up?

Turn on your xbox and goto the xbox settings, click the System tab and then click on network settings, on the network settings page, select change settings... In the page to change the settings, if you see a wire/tab network then your xbox has a wireless adapter if it has not one...

  • The WRT54G and DC input power versions.

OK, I have many, many models and versions.  I have a WRT54G v1, V1.1, V2... V8, I also of the WRT54GS WRT54GL and others, many other things of Linksys, almost everything in the blue and black of varying sizes boxes.

I have a devil of a time when I reconfigure my network or the woman changes the furniture.  I'd like a single document that lists power specifications and the requirements of adapter for devices of Athens... I can't find them anywhere on Linksys website.  I've searched and searched and nowhere can I find a list of consolidate.  I searched the forums and found many individual inscriptions, but it is a pain.

Someone at - it a list of the power DC specifications, sizes of barrel and other things necessary to buy a replacement power adapter.

This http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_WRT54G_series page lists a lot of information but does not list this critical information...  If someone send me the list, I'll try to get it posted it.  I'm amazed that Linksys does not listed it some here.  Lose a wall wart should not be a reason to pull you hair, just a simple purchase, if they do not want their stock, then at least tell us what they are.

And Yes, I lost almost all the manuals...

    -jeff

Well it is not possible to find the specification of power supply for all cards in a single list. You must manually locate each model number of your router and check their record and note the power adapter specification.

  • Wrt54g and Wrt54gl configure WDS, but can't connect to the router

I tried searching the web and this site but can't find the soluction. Please notify

Here is the configuration, I installed wrt54gl with dd - wrt standard version running hotspotsystem.  3 wrt54g version 5 with dd - wrt micro configured as client WDS wrt54gl.  After the initial setup I can connect the main router wrt54gl (192.168.1.1) and all 3 routers WDS (192.168.1.2, 3 and 4), but after a few days of tests suddenly I can not connect to 2 WDS routers.

I want to say I can connect and he will make me to internet but I can not login to stay, he says just the page takes too long to load.  I know that if I do a hard reset and the WDS installation program then it will work, but I don't want to keep doing.  Someone has an idea?  Tried power but cycle anyway, the router does not work.  What is the load on the router made inaccessible?  Any suggestion would be great!

  • WRT54G and WRE54G does not...

    Hello

I try to extend my network v1.02.7 WRT54G with an v3.04.01 WRE54G Expander wireless.

    SSID is disabled

    128-bit WEP encryption

    Channel 6 on both devices

    Router IP 192.168.2.2

    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 router

Start DHCP 192.168.2.100 IP (max 50)

    Routing Table entry list:

WAN gateway 192.168.1.1-> 192.168.1.104-> 192.168.2.2 gateway WAN (LAN & Wireless)

Repeater IP 192.168.2.100 (also tried 192.168.2.3)

    Repeater 255.255.255.0 subnet mask

    Repeater 192.168.2.2 Gateway

When I turn on both devices and connect with my laptop for the Repeater everthing seems to work very well at first.

After a few minutes tho the Repeater of fire seems to be "lost in transaltion ' and the connection

Gets VERY slow (with I mean nothing happens more). It maintains the connection tho.

When it is connected to the router or via cable and everything works fine.

Any suggestions before I got this thing in the store?

    Thank you!

Eureka! I think I got it...

I did a few tests more with the distance between the router-> expander-> computer.

If I was in a room with the router, expader and computer everything worked fine.

It doesn't matter if I was connected to the router or extender or via cable.

So I thought that the distance between the router and the expander control is REALLY crucial.

Too close and you're not developing your network enough... too far and you won't get a connection with the Extender that actually works.

What I did then put the router in the center of the 1st floor and the Expander in the Center

from the 2nd floor above the router. And now after a few hours everything still works fine!

Don't be fooled the indicator of the signal strength in Windows!

All this did not properly although it said very well all the time...

    thx again!

    RIP 16384-16483

There is only one connected to the WRT54G Linksys SPA2102.  The SPA2102 Internet routes (for example there is a computer connected to its Ethernet port) but VoIP does not work well.

  • WRT54GS and XBOX360

I hope someone could help me to translate these instructions in what I do with my WRT54GS.

    http://www.Charter.com/customers/support.aspx?SupportArticleID=1967

I found the MAC address for the 360, it's just that I don't know where can I go to make these types of changes in the Linksys router.

I don't know how to get into my router configuration screen, I just need the instructions from there.

My Xbox connects very well when it is connected to the cable modem only, but not through the router.

    Thank you!

First of all is that your XBOX360 is a wired or a Wireless. Here are some parameters you need to place on your router to your XBOX work with the Linksys router, here are some settings that you can configure your router. You need to Hardwired anyone from your computer to the router.

Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...

Click on the tab "Games and Applications" and then click the sub-tab "Port Range Forwarding"...

    (1) on the first line in the box, type Application in ABC, in the start box, type in 53 and the type of box in 53, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the box to enable...

    (2) on the second line in the box, type Application in PQR, in the start box, type 88 and type of box in 88, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the box to enable...

    (3) on the third line in the box, type Application in XYZ, in the start box, type in 3074 and end in 3074 box type, leave the Protocol as and under type 192.168.1.20 ip address and check the enable box and click on save settings...

    (4) once you return to the game to the top page, click the Security tab and uncheck block anonymous Internet requests and click on save settings...

    5) click on Setup and change the size of the MTU to 1452 and click on save settings...

    (6) address IP, Goto settings XBox network settings and assign the following on the IP address of your Xbox and select manual IP settings:-192.168.1.20, subnet mask:-255.255.255.0 default gateway:-192.168.1.1...

    (7) also assign DNS addresses on Xbox primary dns:-4.2.2.2... Secondary dns:-192.168.1.1

    (8) turn off your modem, router and Xbox... Wait a minute...

    (9) plug the power to the modem first, wait a minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and... test it connects...

I think this should solve your problem.

  • Need help with a WRT54GS and a BEFW11S4

I need a setting of assistance until a bridge (I guess that's what it would be called.)   The WRT54GS is connected to the Modem and sends wireless signals, but the BEFW11S4 will not find the signal wireless of the WRT.

I tried to use the WRT without a bridge but after talking with Linksys, they said that the area that I'm trying to get a wireless signal is a Deadspot in the House.  What I wanted to do with the 2 units I have so it's pass down wireless signal to the BEFW then I could connect the laptop via Ethernet and an Xbox similarly.

Is this possible and can someone give me advice on how this should be done.  I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the computer, but this is a first for me and throw me a loop for.

You can't connect two Linksys wireless router, they will communicate only when it is connected with all ethernet cables...

  • Problems with WRT54GS and EasyLink after the addition of the Comcast Digital phone.

I had a working network. Cable modem (Comcast), WRT54GS, 2 PCs per (an XP/SP3, a Vista Home Edition SP1), 2 cable PC laptop wireless (an XP/SP3, a Vista Home Edition SP1) and a HP OfficeJet 7210 printer (connected to WRT54GS as a network printer). Everything was going well and worked.

Then, I added the Comcast Digital phone. Obviously, they went for a new modem cable modem cable with the phone service option. Now I can't print to the wired Vista PC OfficeJet and EasyLink displays "initializing" for too long I'll wait (5 minutes).

Finally, I must kill EasyLink from the Task Manager. Any help or ideas appreciated!

I solved the problem. It turns out the new modem cable and problem with EasyLink initialization were 'diversion '.

The problem turns out to be a classic network problem! The Vista PC wired had a wrong IP address. The wireless PC XP has the printer configured with the name of network instead of the network address (IP, for example).

When I deleted the printer on the Vista PC and added to the correct address everything worked fine.

Apparently, the printer got a new IP address of the server on the WRT54GS after installing the new modem. In addition, it seems that Vista doesn't has not report an error of communication to a network printer, but for a direct USB connect.

  • Using a wrt54gs and an Ooma VOIP hub

Anyone have any ideas on how to improve the quality of calls with an Ooma hub and a wrt54gs v7.  I use the Ooma hub to my work phone, and I continue to get complaints from people that my line is constantly breaking.  While I'm using the phone, I'm also sending and receiving of emails etc.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this situation?  A new router n make a difference?  Thanks for your help.

Provided that you are able to go online from your router, I think that you shouldn't a new router, I think you need to check the settings of your Ooma VOIP hub, maybe sound require an upgrade or need to change some settings on your router. You can always do is, connect to your router configuration page, using the default IP: 192.168.1.1, once you connected to your router configuration page, below the configuration tab, you will find the MTU, which will be set to AUTO, so changes to manual and changes the size of 1500 to 1365 and click on save settings Now you can check if your phone is working correctly. If this isn't the case, then you can contact your Ooma VOIP Hub provider.

  • WRT54G and DNS relay?

Hello everyone - I am considering the purchase of a unit of WRT54g.  Have a question...

I intend to have the IP-side WAN to give it to me via DHCP from ISP.  I expect that the ISP will provide info server DNS as well on the WAN side.

Is it possible to pass transparently this DNS information to my LAN using DHCP clients?  I'm not statically configure DNS for DHCP clients on the LAN side.  I'd rather them use some address DNS is given to the router.

    Is this possible?

    Thank you
    Scott

Yes. This is the default behavior. According to the version of the firmware on the server and the router DHCP on the router either directly affects the DNS of the ISP servers or he assigns the DNS relay router, i.e. 192.168.1.1 aka it's own LAN IP address.

  • WRT54GS and FVS318 together

    Hello

I have a Netgear FVS318 router and a WRT54GS V6 that is connected to one of the LAN ports, so I can have wireless access to my LAN.   With the default settings, I can access the Internet via a system connected to a router - but I do not see the workgroup computers that are on the other router.   I think that it is because the IP addresses of the local network must be set correctly - but I can't do that.

The FVS318 is set to 192.168.0.1, has a range of addresses IP 192.168.0.2 through 198.162.0.253 and is the DHCP server.  By default, the WRT54GS is set to 192.168.1.1, and the DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 through 192.168.1.149.

I can change the WRT54GS 192.168.0.150 (for example), and the DHCP range is changed accordingly.  However, if I turn off DHCP on the router WRT54GS becomes inaccessible, and I do a hard reset to get back.  Even the installer on the CD cannot access.  I tried to change it go a gateway to a router, and has no effect.

So my question is: is it possible to implement the WRT54GS so that it becomes just a part of the local LAN where I can access any system connected to a router that is in the same workgroup?   (FWIW, I have a mix of Windows 2000 and Windows XP)

Thanks for any advice.  I'm tired terribly to have to reset the router all the time after making a few changes.  I have the latest firmware on the router.

    Dean

Change of address of the Linksys router at address 192.168.0.150(this par défaut doit être unique) and disable its DHCP server settings, click on save settings...

Connect the Ethernet/LAN Port of the Netgear router to the Ethernet/LAN Port on the Linksys router and the router power cycle...

Connected(wired/wireless) from the computer to the Linksys router will communicate with computers connected to the router Netgear...
