WRT54G v5.1 - firmware update

Hello world

I have a very simple question about the update of the firmware. I have a WRT54G v5.1 Lynksys support download page and when I have to choose the correct hardware version, there is only listed v5.0.

I want to just make sure that it is compatible with my v5.1.

Thanks in advance!

/ Sofian

I think it is compatible.

  • WRT54GS with the wrong firmware update

    Hi Experts,

I stupidly updated to a bad firmware. Instead of the firmware for the WTRG54GS I've updated my WRT54GS with the firmware for the WRT45G. :-(

The router is accessible by the intellectual property and this firmware works on my router.

But after this accident, my router does not update the firmware on the right.

On the Web interface, I get when the firmware upgrade, the following message appears:

    "Upgrade are failed"

With TFTP, I get the message "bad boss".

Someone has an idea of what I can do to update the firmware on the right? I need the firmware just because my WRE54G rangeexpander unable to connect to my router because I made this mistake.

    Higgy

Try the downgrade the firmware with a older version if it works, then upgrade to the latest version. You can find them here.

  • WRT54G v4 unusable web interface after firmware update

I tried to upgrade (actually downgrade) my WRT54G v4 firmware 4.30.11 to 4.21.1. When the progress bar reaches the mark to halfway, I got the message saying that the upgrade was successful. However, now the web interface is so messed up that it is unusable. It's a sign that something went wrong.

Power, WLAN, Ethernet 1, and Internet lights are all green solid, which should be a good sign. After the upgrade, the web interface says "WRT54G 4.21.1', which is the firmware messed up I am downloading. Browsers, then restart my computer, I have confirmed that it is a router problem, not a problem of the browser cache. I also tried to do a hard reset by pressing the reset for 30 seconds button, unplug the router while holding down the button of reset for 30 seconds and then plug the router while holding down the button of reset for another 30 seconds. This has not fixed anything.

I encountered a similar problem after an update of the firmware several years ago and the fix to upgrade the firmware using TFTP. This time, however, the TFTP utility could not download the firmware. Using a hack that I found on the internet, I have re - download the 4.21.1 firmware, but the web interface was always messed up. I then downloaded the 4.30.13 firmware. The web interface is still messed up, but then he said "WRT54GL 4.30.13. I then went to the firmware I wanted, WRT54G 4.21.1. The web interface is still screwed up, but said «WRT54G 4.21.1»

Anyone know how to solve the problem? Yet once, it took place immediately after a firmware update, the web interface is unusable, is not a problem of the browser cache and tried a hard reset.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

My router model is WRT54G v4. The v4 WRT54G and the WRT54GL are generally considered to be the same device with different model numbers. According to the article of Wikipedia WRT54G, "the WRT54GL is technically a reissue of the version 4 WRT54G."

I used the firmware 4.30.X for years without problems. However, I decided to switch to the 'right' firmware for my router and something went wrong during the upgrade.

I solved the problem. I basically just dropped the Linksys firmware and uploaded the DD open source-WRT firmware mini instead. Now everything works fine.

  • WRT54G V8.2 Firmware woes

    Hi all

I tried to update my firmware for the latest and best Linksys for my router V8.2 and have some trouble. It seemed that everything was fine, but after the restart and connect to 192.168.1.1, all I get is 'Management Mode Firmware Upgrade', and he asks a file. I tried the firmware file again in this area, but it always returns just "upgrade failed" and I get nowhere.

I did some further studies in the way and tried to use the Linksys tftp tool to install the upgrade, but no luck. Beforehand, I set up the IP address of my computer and set the speed of the NIC 10 Mb half duplex. I also took a hit on the problem with tftp using the command-line of the window, but I get "timeout exceeded".

Here are the results of ping 192.168.1.1:

Ping 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">

    Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
    Packets: Sent = 4, received = 4, lost = 0 (0% loss),
Time approximate round trip in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, average = 0ms

Does anyone have this persistant problem with their WRT54G V8.2? It's a shame how it worked so far, only to be injured by a stupid firmware update!

    Thank you

After an update of the firmware, you must reset the default router, and then configure the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last update of the firmware, please do it now and see if it solves your problem.  If you have saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

Also, make sure that your computer is configured to obtain an IP automatically, disable any firewall, the security software on the computer before you try to access the configuration page...

  • WRT54G (version 2) Firmware Version Question

    Hello

Beautiful room here. I'm glad that this facility exists.

I have the router WRT54G version 2. Finally, I upgraded the version of firmware years before Cisco Linksys bought.

A recent announcement by the people of Black Hat (treaties in this article of TechSpot) about their intention to publish a validation tool to exploit a vulnerability of DNS rebinding on a great many routers SOHO forced me to check for the latest update of firmware for my router.

The interesting thing is that my router's Web interface lists the current version of the firmware as 4.30.12, but the latest version of the downloadable firmware that I see listed on the support site is 4.21.1. I'm not very surprised by this apparent anomaly. If I remember correctly, that firmware version 4.30.12 download is a beta that was supposed to fix a problem connecting WiFi to a certain type. If this version of the firmware was still considered a beta at the time of the acquisition of Linksys by Cisco - or a 'stable' later firmware version incorporating the same or better fixes for the issues addressed by 4.30.12 that had been produced at that time-so maybe 4.30.12 was ruled out.

If you read the article of TechSpot and the associated table of preliminary vulnerability, test reports, you'll see that router WRT54G version 2 is not specifically listed. Version 3 of the router is listed as vulnerable, and version 5 of the router is not.

    So, my questions are:

Everyone here is aware of information indicating whether or not the problem of DNS Rebinding vulnerability affects the WRT54G version 2 with the last registered (4.21.1) router firmware version?

If so, does anyone know if yes or no Cisco plans to release an update for this old router?

If the router is vulnerable and will not be solved with a firmware update I'll probably have myself a new LInksys router which is not listed as vulnerable. (Believe me, I'm not leaving this thread to bash Linksys. This router ran like a train of 24 hours a day for years without a single hiccup that was not directly attributable to the problems of the ISP. For the price, it's one of the best purchases of equipment I've ever done calculation. And I have done this since the beginning of the 80s when I was using a CP/M system and an Apple / / e.)

If the 4.21.1 version firmware for WRT54G version 2 is not affected, I wonder if anyone knows if yes or no 'downgrading' of 4.30.12 to 4.21.1 is likely to lead to a failure of the router. (I'll probably try it anyway. If it brick the router I'll just go ahead and get a new one.)

BTW, I use this router with the ease of remote administration and UPnP off and strong admin password that is changed each week. (When I always used wireless I used WPA2 AES with strong password, but I am all wired now with the systems running Debian testing).

Forgive me for talking to myself. I decided to just go ahead and "downgrade" of the 4.30.12 firmware 4.21.1 version - just because I prefer to use a version of firmware known and supported for this material. The downgrade has gone well, so no worries about this.

I'll look for news on whether or not this version of the firmware on this particular router is vulnerable to the flaw in DNS rebinding and acts accordingly.

    Sorry for the noise.

  • WRT54G v1.0 Firmware upgrade

I'm trying to update the firmware for a WRT54G v1.0 (I think, it doesn't have a version # on the sticker).  I downloaded the firmware (through a google cache to the linksys support page cuz link is down).  I have unziped the file. I did a hard reset (60.60.60).  Then I connected to my router (admin pass so I don't know the reset worked) went to "system > Firmware update > Upgrade" opened the dialog box.  Then I bowsed to the .bin file found he opened it and clicked on 'Upgrade'... nothing has happened... waited... still nothing, no progress bar, nothing, nada, neah... whats up?

I can still access the router as usual and ect is just the dialog box upgrade that seems broken.

    So, any ideas?

Re: proxy server annoy 7.6.7 update?

  • Wan interrupts the connection after the firmware update

Looks like the latest firmware upgrade is the source of the problems.

I've just updated my timecapsule 1 TB of first generation version 7.6.7 and my 3 TB timecapsule new version 7.7.7

Both are connected to the router of the provider of Internet services and extend the network even in my house.

WiFi is stable until the upgrade, but now the connection is lost every few minutes or seconds.

Both versions are later to the respective timecapsules.

I end up having to downgrade if no solution is found.

I powered the two market still nothing does not. Redefine the network and tried both hidden and not hidden, yet once nothing doesn't.

Any ideas on what is causing the problem?

Well, since nobody seems to have an explanation, and Apple are not out with firmware update after 7.7.7 and 7.6.7 I decided to downgrade the firmware to the previous version. I now run version 7.7.3 on the new 3 Tb Time Capsule and 7.6.3 on the 1st Gen Time Capsule. So far, the network is stable. Using WiFi Explorer Ii see that they use channel 6 and 8 respectively. Signal is strong and no dropouts have taken place so far. Hope the issue is resolved in the next firmware update.

As I read in another post: firmware update does not solve a problem, you didn't. However, it can create a problem that you didn't.

  • TimeCapsule downgrades WiFi 2.4 GHz after applying the firmware update v7.6.7

After applying the firmware update v7.6.7 free WiFi to TimeCapsule is now 2.4 Ghz instead of 5 Ghz.

It was the update of the firmware with certainty that has made this... no doubt about it:

    • My mouse bluetooth interference notice when my MacBook is connected to WiFi 2.4 Ghz;
    • Before the update, everything is OK
    • After updating, my mouse mouse start jittering
    • < alt-click > WiFi icon in the menu bar confirms: the connection is now 2.4 Ghz

Restart to e TM Mo doesn't change anything.

In the TC WiFI options tried to put another name to the network successfully, but only 5 GHz can not connect to it: timeout error every time.

Tried the hard reset of TC and reconfigure the WiFi... the same result, but with a difference:

    • Setting an SSID separated for 5 GHz connection (in the WiFi options) has now created a network I can access.
    • However, this is not the best solution... I don't want 2 SSID.

It is not the first time Apple breaks things with updates... and I see people move away from Apple to this kind of situations.

I also had bad experiences with OS updates lately and postpone the as much as possible.

The problem is that I can't go back... or can I?

    Any help is welcome.

Have you pressed the button of reset for 1 second and then release?

Do you have the reset button during 5-6 seconds and observe the led flashing quickly until you release the reset button?

    Or something else?

    Have you restarted your Mac?
