WRT54G V8.2 Firmware woes

Hi all

I tried to update my firmware for the latest and best Linksys for my router V8.2 and have some trouble. It seemed that everything was fine, but after the restart and connect to 192.168.1.1, all I get is 'Management Mode Firmware Upgrade', and he asks a file. I tried the firmware file again in this area, but it always returns just "upgrade failed" and I get nowhere.

I did some further studies in the way and tried to use the Linksys tftp tool to install the upgrade, but no luck. Beforehand, I set up the IP address of my computer and set the speed of the NIC 10 Mb half duplex. I also took a hit on the problem with tftp using the command-line of the window, but I get "timeout exceeded".

Here are the results of ping 192.168.1.1:

Ping 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Packets: Sent = 4, received = 4, lost = 0 (0% loss),
Time approximate round trip in milli-seconds:

Does anyone have this persistant problem with their WRT54G V8.2? It's a shame how it worked so far, only to be injured by a stupid firmware update!

Thank you

After an update of the firmware, you must reset the default router, and then configure the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last update of the firmware, please do it now and see if it solves your problem.  If you have saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

Also, make sure that your computer is configured to obtain an IP automatically, disable any firewall, the security software on the computer before you try to access the configuration page...

    Hello world

I have a very simple question about the update of the firmware. I have a WRT54G v5.1 Lynksys support download page and when I have to choose the correct hardware version, there is only listed v5.0.

I want to just make sure that it is compatible with my v5.1.

    Thanks in advance!

    I think it is compatible.

  • WRT54G (version 2) Firmware Version Question

    Hello

Beautiful room here. I'm glad that this facility exists.

I have the router WRT54G version 2. Finally, I upgraded the version of firmware years before Cisco Linksys bought.

A recent announcement by the people of Black Hat (treaties in this article of TechSpot) about their intention to publish a validation tool to exploit a vulnerability of DNS rebinding on a great many routers SOHO forced me to check for the latest update of firmware for my router.

The interesting thing is that my router's Web interface lists the current version of the firmware as 4.30.12, but the latest version of the downloadable firmware that I see listed on the support site is 4.21.1. I'm not very surprised by this apparent anomaly. If I remember correctly, that firmware version 4.30.12 download is a beta that was supposed to fix a problem connecting WiFi to a certain type. If this version of the firmware was still considered a beta at the time of the acquisition of Linksys by Cisco - or a 'stable' later firmware version incorporating the same or better fixes for the issues addressed by 4.30.12 that had been produced at that time-so maybe 4.30.12 was ruled out.

If you read the article of TechSpot and the associated table of preliminary vulnerability, test reports, you'll see that router WRT54G version 2 is not specifically listed. Version 3 of the router is listed as vulnerable, and version 5 of the router is not.

    So, my questions are:

Everyone here is aware of information indicating whether or not the problem of DNS Rebinding vulnerability affects the WRT54G version 2 with the last registered (4.21.1) router firmware version?

If so, does anyone know if yes or no Cisco plans to release an update for this old router?

If the router is vulnerable and will not be solved with a firmware update I'll probably have myself a new LInksys router which is not listed as vulnerable. (Believe me, I'm not leaving this thread to bash Linksys. This router ran like a train of 24 hours a day for years without a single hiccup that was not directly attributable to the problems of the ISP. For the price, it's one of the best purchases of equipment I've ever done calculation. And I have done this since the beginning of the 80s when I was using a CP/M system and an Apple / / e.)

If the 4.21.1 version firmware for WRT54G version 2 is not affected, I wonder if anyone knows if yes or no 'downgrading' of 4.30.12 to 4.21.1 is likely to lead to a failure of the router. (I'll probably try it anyway. If it brick the router I'll just go ahead and get a new one.)

BTW, I use this router with the ease of remote administration and UPnP off and strong admin password that is changed each week. (When I always used wireless I used WPA2 AES with strong password, but I am all wired now with the systems running Debian testing).

Forgive me for talking to myself. I decided to just go ahead and "downgrade" of the 4.30.12 firmware 4.21.1 version - just because I prefer to use a version of firmware known and supported for this material. The downgrade has gone well, so no worries about this.

I'll look for news on whether or not this version of the firmware on this particular router is vulnerable to the flaw in DNS rebinding and acts accordingly.

    Sorry for the noise.

  • WRT54G v1.0 Firmware upgrade

I'm trying to update the firmware for a WRT54G v1.0 (I think, it doesn't have a version # on the sticker).  I downloaded the firmware (through a google cache to the linksys support page cuz link is down).  I have unziped the file. I did a hard reset (60.60.60).  Then I connected to my router (admin pass so I don't know the reset worked) went to "system > Firmware update > Upgrade" opened the dialog box.  Then I bowsed to the .bin file found he opened it and clicked on 'Upgrade'... nothing has happened... waited... still nothing, no progress bar, nothing, nada, neah... whats up?

I can still access the router as usual and ect is just the dialog box upgrade that seems broken.

    So, any ideas?

  • WRT54G v3.1 (firmware v4.21.1) is not route packets between interfaces

I am at a loss, because it seems that I'm really close to having my small network of installation works, except my router linksys faithful does not seem to be interested in packages of brewing between the WAN and WLAN interfaces.

    Background:

I just moved into a new House, AT & T U-verse is taking their sweet time thought of digging a trench, so I have no wired internet, but I have a phone with 4G support that I can use as a hotspot Wi - Fi (high-end and very limited functionality).

My goal is to rebuild my local network (two servers by cable, half a dozen various wireless devices), using my WRT54G as the central routing for her component.

    Plan:

    1. install a wireless bridge that connects to the Wifi 4 G hotspot.

    2. connect ZyXel bridge to the WAN port on the WRT54G

    3. connect and other devices in LAN WRT54G and wireless interfaces.

    Results:

    1. I got a ZyXel WAP3205 to this effect, and it seems to work fine (when connected to PC, PC is to get internet access through it perfectly.)

2 seems to work fine. the linksys router is able to obtain an IP address on DHCP 4G Wifi hotspot (the Zyxel will exercise a passthrough.) The admin/diagnosis tab let me DNS resolve/ping/traceroute arbitrary sites on the internet.

3 is not happy. I am able to access the router admin page. I can ping the router from any of my devices to end IP addresses, but nothing goes further. I can not ping IP of 4G Wifi hotspot for example (but I do go in the WRT diagnostic tools)

    Details of config:

-4G - Wifi hotspot is configured as a DHCP/Gateway server. His IP address is defined as 10.10.10.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, assignment of IP addresses between 10.10.10.2 - 10.10.10.254

-WRT router is configured as a DHCP/Gateway server as well. Its local IP address is set as 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, IPs assignments between 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.51.

-All the rest is to default settings. Mode of operation is the gateway, routing table is showing

Destination LAN IP.  Subnet mask |  Entry door |  Hop count | Interface

    192.168.1.0. 255.255.255.0. 0.0.0.0. 0           | Wireless LAN &

    10.10.10.0 | 255.255.255.0. 0.0.0.0. 0           | WAN (Internet)

    0.0.0.0             | 0.0.0.0. 10.10.10.1. 0           | WAN (Internet)

    This seems reasonable.

-Status/router tab displays an IP WAN address 10.10.10.172, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 10.10.10.1, DNS1 10.10.10.1, which looks very good as well.

I tried to adjust various settings on the router (gateway in router mode switching, disable DHCP and manually configure IP addresses), but nothing seems to convince the router to start, you know, routing of packets autour.

I hope I'm missing something stupid here, and I'll be grateful for any help and judgment on this.

    Thank you

    Henri

    * Edit: I should add, I use this little guy for years previous houses, and it has always worked, even if its WAN port was always plugged into a modem cable of some sort. So I don't think that the WRT54G is likely to be broken or defective.

    Sonuva...

Apparently, the little box just need a fast walk. After a factory reset and set my wireless settings screw, it seems to work perfectly.

Well, I think that I'm talking to myself now.

Just for fun, here is the great link, I'll be sharing between devices 8 or 9:

(which is through my whole setup, even if the speed is exactly the same thing with a direct link.)

  • WRT54G v1.1 firmware fail

I just went and updated the firmware on my wrt54gv 1.1 router and the router now goes and gives me a weird IP address, the 192.168.1.1 site is incorrect, the power LED flashes, and I reset in every way I can think of. I have downloaded the upgrade of www.linksis.com, followed all the instructions as well, and I can't help thinking that I probably killed him.

Any help or advice on how I can get the router running again would be greatly appreciated.

I discovered how to make so that he could go back: press reset for 30 seconds, remove and continue operation reset for 30 sec, reconnect and continue to operate reset to refresh 30 sec 192.168.1.1 and it worked.

    I'm sorry to bother you

  • WRT54G ver.2 Firmware Version: v4.21.1 - cannot connect wireless

    Hello

These days I could not connect to my wireless network.  I have 1 office, cable that connects no problem.  2 laptops (win xp) that can both see the network at full power, but I am unable to connect.  I just get the dialog box "until the network... "and then it expires later on two laptops. I have reset the router, updated firmware, disabled the secutiry everything tried but nothing works.  I am able to connect to other networks in my apt complex, so I guess my laptops aren't the issue and that its my router.  again, it was something just all of a sudden, after no change in one of my installation.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Jason

After an update of the firmware did you reset your router and reconfigure all the settings on it again? If this isn't the case, then press in and hold the reset for 30 seconds button... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

Here is the wireless settings that you can configure your router, and I think that should solve your problem.

When you connect to the router configuration page, click on the Wireless tab

-Wireless network mode must be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the name box of the wireless network (SSID) in order to differentiate your network from your network of neighbors...
-Set the channel 11-2 wireless, 462 GHz... Wireless SSID broadcast should be enabled and then click on save settings...
Please take note of the name of the wireless network (SSID) because it's the network identifier...

    For wireless security: -.
Click the sub-tab under wireless > Wireless Security...

Change the mode of WPA wireless security, encryption, select TKIP. Password input your desired WPA key. For example, MySecretKey, this will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and do not forget the key.

NOTE: The password must be more than 8 characters...

    Click the settings advanced wireless

Change the tag to 75 interval, change the Fragmentation threshold to 2304, change the RTS threshold to 2304 and click on save settings...

Now let's see if you can locate your wireless network and try to connect...

  • WRT54GS with the wrong firmware update

    Hi Experts,

I stupidly updated to a bad firmware. Instead of the firmware for the WTRG54GS I've updated my WRT54GS with the firmware for the WRT45G. :-(

The router is accessible by the intellectual property and this firmware works on my router.

But after this accident, my router does not update the firmware on the right.

On the Web interface, I get when the firmware upgrade, the following message appears:

    "Upgrade are failed"

With TFTP, I get the message "bad boss".

Someone has an idea of what I can do to update the firmware on the right? I need the firmware just because my WRE54G rangeexpander unable to connect to my router because I made this mistake.

    Higgy

Try the downgrade the firmware with a older version if it works, then upgrade to the latest version. You can find them here.

  • Rebound strength of signal after Firmware update

Have two of WRT54G wireless routers.

    A WRT54G version 6, Version of the Firmware v1.028

    A WRT54G version 6, Firmware Version v2.x

With the WRT54G ver. 6, v1.028 Firmware version

When I ran the android WiFi Analyzer app, I get mixed results.

On my Samsung Galaxy S3, I saw my signal on channel 2 and others around me (two on Channel 6) and two on channel 11.

On my first processor ASUS TFT201, I see the same signals, but my router signal bounces between the base line (-100dBm?) and on - 35dBm.

Plugged the WRT54G version 2, Firmware Version v2.x channel 8

Hung and got good strength constant signal. He had "WPA - Shared Key" but had not only not "WPA - Personal" that was on version 6. So, I had to go and live things. I upgraded this Firmware Version: v4.21.5 and guess what?

I now "WPA - Personal". I have also a signal bounces on BOTH units. Here's the thing still more strange...

On my ASUS, I can see both routers. Version 2 AND version 6 bounce between base and - 35dBm, in unison. Apprently dislikes something in the ASUS Firmwares later.

On my Samsung I can see the two signals - version 2 on channel 8 is steady as a rock and version 6 on channel 2 is also bouncing back, but at a much slower pace!

Speedtest.net running a PC connected to the worm. 2. I get 5.34 MB/s in Download and 0.47 MB/s in upload (Yes, my sucks Internet!)

Speedtest.NET running through the ASUS WLAN to the worm. 2. I get 2.43 Mbps Down and 0.65 Mb/s Up.

Speedtest.NET running through the Samsung wireless to the worm. 2. I get 5.07 Mbps Down and 1.07 Mbps Up.

Any ideas on what's going on? I can get the old firmware and back, or is there another, better steps to take?

    Thank you!

    John

First, I want to know how are the routers are connected as physically and what type of configuration that you put on them? Also, since you had put routers to level to recent versions, make sure that they had been manually reset and reconfigured to have the new firmware loaded correctly.

  • WRT54GS problem with bittorrent

I have a WRT54GS, flashed to firmware v 1.52.8. It was working fine until a recent move. I put in place after that I moved into my new place and got connected services (Comcast) and that's when I noticed the problem. I have a PC connected via CAT5 via the router and use the point wireless for my laptop. In the past, my average download speed on torrents with seeds decent were about 1.5-3 MB/s (Yes, it's MBps Mbps not...) I know the difference) recently however, they head to anywhere from 150 to 250 Kbps Kbps. Uploads are not affected... they seem to be on average about the same. In addition, during the torrent download, web browsing/email/etc does not work: everything happens to expire despite the QoS settings I have in place on the router to avoid these problems.

At first, I assumed it was my ISP throttling my connection - Comcast has been called to do in the past, after all - but after testing the Glasnost reported no limitation by my ISP, I tried with the PC connected directly to a cable modem. Result: sustained speeds of download of 2.5-3 MB/s during two trials downloads (Ubuntu Installer ISO). During these downloads, I could navigate to wesites without getting timeout errors as I do when behind the router. This highlights quite peremptorily the WRT54GS as the source of my problem, so I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to solve this other than to launch the router and get a new.

EDIT: I should mention that I have only torrent on the PC, so it's not a wireless issue.

Do a reset factory and try it without changing all the settings except the foundations (e.g., wireless security, password)

  • Help to "problem"-WRT54G, Linux, Unix and Windows ".

I have a Linksys WRT54G rev 6, firmware version v8.00.7 011, July 27, 2009.  My ADSL modem is a modem DSL from Westell G90-610014-20 revD.  My home network is 'predominantly' Windows wireless clients and a wireless printer, who don't have no problems or issues between them.  These 2 PC can see each other, share files, print, see internet, etc.  My PDA Smart Phone connect wireless... the grand-kids PSP jumps in full and they are all happy.

Then, a few steps in my box... Multi-boot with Win7 Pro 64-bit, Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition 64-bit, OpenSolaris 2010.03 snv_134 and some other OS' are.  It is connected to the #2 router's ethernet port.  This PC connects to the internet very well with all OS' are.  When I start to the top of any OS "Windows" on the subject, I can see the entire network, connect, fileshare, printing, etc. Life is beautiful...

When this PC is displayed under Ubuntu, OpenSolaris or Solaris - I have internet and I can print.  I can see 'only' the router, modem and printer (and not the other PC) I can ping the router, printer and modem (not the other PC through services called) or intellectual property.  I can not connect, fileshare, etc..  In these OS' are I Samba, CIFS, Wins, etc. installed.  My windows clients cannot see my PC either, BUT I can ping and mount the fileshares to this PC via the IP (not via the designated services. If I boot one of this Windows Linux clients, this PC can see my PC with the IP address and name services.  Linux to linux, he'll see, connect, share.  I had 'other recheck my config on Samba, CIFS and wins... and nobody can find any problems there.

I see 'all' clients in the Client DHCP of the router table.  The router is dynamically assign addresses without any conflicts.  The router I ping the Linux/Unix/Windows (my) box.  It cannot ping my windows wireless clients.  All "client" devices have DHCP enabled with autoconfig.

At first I thought I had a double NAT courses so I filled the modem and the reconfig'ed my router to the router to the modem of the equation.  (Now just a stupid modem.)  Time of Internet connection are now vantastic... improved my time to download updates and upgrades and network load is down... BUT, the same problems/no change.

I turned "logging" the router, but as of yet, I have not found where those who connect so I can revisit!  I wonder if I have something to do between the wire &... but that "should" be transparent shouldn't it?  I don't know if "everything that he must have spent, or if something is filtering or stop"it "(?)"  I'm really running out of ideas on what to check, test, change... on what "might" happen.

    Help!

Thank you... 'All' went through on my desktop and my network and I was doing the wrong assumptions.  The last PC for installation on this network was my office, so I assumed that it connect to my laptop, it was a problem with the desktop computer.

What I've discovered, is that it "is" the problem of the laptop (on the contrary), somewhere in the services of the Windows Vista Home Premium network or settings, device drivers, etc..  "Is not" (or at least now) a router or hardware problem.

He kept bothers me, I couldn't ping my laptop from my PC, or my router.  I had no access to customers 'other' Windows until late last night, when I found that 'they' have connection problems and ping the laptop too!  I guess...

I started this laptop on a Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition LiveCD - and then could ping to it to both my desktop PC and my router, configuration this laptop in wireless (same device) and connect to the same wireless network.  Sort, which confirms that this is not a hardware problem on the laptop.  It confirms that it is not a router or network problem.  It narrows down my path to how 'Vista' networking services, device drivers, settings, etc. from Vista. The hunt continues, but this thread is "finished".  The problem lies elsewhere...
