  You can download the installer for Adobe Reader here offline:

  Once downloaded, you can run the file .exe on your machine to install the drive.

  The problem with IE can be caused by an incompatible add-on.

  Can you try the following and see if it helps one?

  IE > tools > Internet Options > advanced > uncheck the box in front of "Enable third party browser extensions" > OK then restart IE.

  If this does help not you can re - enable third-party browser extensions.

  If this does not help, you'd have to track down the third party browser extension causing the problem.

  Also, when Windows stops are you a blue screen?
