• WRT54GS v5 and WDS

  Does anyone know if the WDS compatible WRT54GS v5? I tried to connect a Terminal to Airport Express via WDS and that never works. My only assumption is that the linksys is not compatible with WDS.

  The WRT54G/S does not support WDS advanced by the official Linksys firmware.  It supports a bit a 'lazy WDS', but which really only works with the WRE54G.  If you want some real WDS, you need to use a different firmware.  If you are interested in where to get these, PM me, or there are many other people here who can give you directions.

  Simply indicates the data sheet RV110W... "can wireless be repeated signals by up to 3 compatible devices,"

  I have install WDS for several clients successfully.

  The only thing to keep in mind is that, for each position (or access point) that you repeat until the line speed on the remote will be reduced by half.

  Also several of thewireless routers support WDS, so you can use another RV110W for example.

• How to use TPLink WD8961ND to extend the time Capsule

  I'm currently have Airport Extreme and Time Capsule.

  Time capsule is the main base, extreme is configured as extended wireless.

  I have an old TPLink WD8961ND adsl wireless router, and now it is no longer used. I'm trying to use again as another scope wireless with time capsule as the main basis wireless.

  But I can not configure properly the configuration. TPlink can act as a wireless bridge (using WDS), but time capsule does support WDS? Is it possible to use as a wireless extended tplink using timecapsule as main base?

  I have an old TPLink WD8961ND adsl wireless router, and now it is no longer used. I'm trying to use again as another scope wireless with time capsule as the main basis wireless.

  You may know that Apple uses parameters exclusive for their feature 'extend a wireless network', which are designed to allow only other Apple devices to "extend" the wireless network.

  Thus, while it was possible somehow for the TP-Link device do what you want... It also very unlikely to be able to do what you want.

  Apple dropped support WDS, over 3 years ago. Even if WDS were always taken care... WDS runs at a speed much more slow 'g' wireless and use outdated security settings, so there is no advantage to using these older settings, even if you could.

  Unless you have tons of time your hands for the experience and a lot of patience, my advice would be extending wireless... and look at a configuration where the TP-Link is permanently connected to the Apple router by using the connection cable wired Ethernet TP-Link.

• LAPN300 Workgroup Bridge cannot be seen outside the local subnet

  Hi, I have a strange problem, I hope you can help with.

  I have the following in my network

  1 DSL Modem Router

  2 LAPN300 AP connected to [1] via ethernet

  3. another AP connected to [2] via the parameter Workgroup Bridge [2]

  All appear to be configured correctly, [2] shows that [3] is connected in the section of bridge of the workgroup of tha status page.

  When I connect a wireless [2] client I can ping [1] and [3] and an external address as Ecritel.net

  When I connect a customer [3] wireless I can ping [1] and [2] BUT cannot ping an external address

  All 3 cameras have manually set IP addresses x.x.x.254, x.x.x.253 and x.x.x.252

  only [1] has NAT and DHCP active.

  I already tried a different router [1] and a different access point [2] but get exactly the same result.

  Do you have an idea what I'm doing wrong or troubleshooting.

  I would recommend either a LAPN300\600 or if your budget can support a LAPAC2600 which is newer Linksys AP.

  You can continue to use Workgroup Bridge or WDS. They both should work. I don't know which protocols are better.

• The WAG54G v1.2 firmware update

  I have a WAG54G ver 1.2, 4 port eth + adsl wireless router.  The last update of the firmware on the support download site is Ver.1.02.1 from 18/05/2004, which is ridiculous! (details here: http://linksysbycisco.com/EU/en/support/WAG54G/download)

  It comes to the NVA, that I installed it on the router and the lt does not have same setting of WDS, so unit is more or less useless.

  I checked the alternatives open source (wrt line), but they are all with WAG54G V2 and no support previous models v1 and v1.2

  I need to somehow pass this router to something functional.  I checked the page of GPL code as well and while ls there a WAG54g list, I think that itd for V3 routers.  So the question is:

  1 is usable on v1.2 source GPL code (I guess not)

  2. suggestions for a WDS on the router (including beta / alpha firmware) is appreciated.

  Even the GPL code will not help you because often, it does not include modem etc drivers who are not GPL depending on the brand and the pilot.

  Another good reason not to get these combos of modem/router but get a simple simple modem with a router ethernet standard that you can use on any access technology...

  I can't talk about beta firmware. At least as far as I know even more recent E4200 does not support WDS with all other brands as Linksys. And you can be sure that they will not add anything to the WAG54G. It's all just too old.

  WDS has nothing to do with the routing. WDS extends the LAN inside the network local, there are only ethernet and MAC addresses. The routing is only between routers.

  What is so complicated: it's complicated. You repeat traffic. Access points must include any traffic for repeat and which is not, which means that they must find the topology. WDS severely effects of bandwidth. WDS often only works with WEP (or static, anti-rotation key WPA). Do a little reading in the internet...

  As it was not standardized how to handle questions from topologies you will often find that a Repeater works with a gateway of the same brand. A WDS would be possible with the same brand devices

  I was wondering if someone can quickly answer my question?

  I am trying to use my WAP4410N to create a wireless bridge to an existing network that does not contain any Cisco kit. After reading the manual, I tried the bridge WDS wireless solution, which is my router wireless D-Link & MAC address, but there is no option to put in network WPA2 key, I guess I misunderstood how this feature works, & maybe it works with other products of Cisco wireless?

  HI Andy,.

  Noramlly that configure you WDS Bridge would need to implement WPA 2 personal option under the wireless part, and then click Security.

  Since the SSID and security must be the same, is that were you would enter information. As to make this set your work with a D-Link wireless router, you'll never miss that probably the question were that this wireless device must support WDS. Even then you might also encounter a question having no match wireless chipsets as well.

  More than likely that this configuration will not work for you. I advise to use an other WAP4410n to establish the connection. Rely on what you are wanting to do a WET200 may also work for you since its just fill a wireless network and only use WDS, but I have never tested this connection with a D-link router so I can't 100% guaranteed if this implementation will work as well or not.

  Click on start > all programs > Accessories > guest... A black box will appear (command prompt)... In the command prompt window type ipconfig and press "Enter"... Look for Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection address IP, subnet mask, and default gateway...

  IP address must be 192.168.1.x, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.1.1 (assuming that your router is 192.168.1.1)... If you get mentioned above IP address, a subnet and address the gateway then you ping the gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press ENTER... If she gives you ask has expired, and then disable any firewall, the security software on the computer...

• Update Firmware WRT54G2 V1 problem

  I've been reading through this forum, but can't seem to find a solution to my problem. I have no problem to find and download the file from the Cisco web site. When I connect to my router wireless and go to the Administration page - Firmware Upgrade, I select the file. Even if I select Hardware version 1.0, the name of the file is: FW_WRT54Gv4_4.21.5.000_20120220.bin. The file name to specify Hardware version 1.0. Could it be the problem?

  The error message I receive after hit the upgrade button is: upgrade are failed! I used Firefox and Chrome and the same error message. My current firmware version is 1.0.04)is and I am trying to upgrade to version 4.21.5. There are known issues when someone else has tried this upgrade? In the affirmative, known bugs and workarounds?

  the one you are trying to download is WRT54G V4... What is the model number right from your router's WRT54G2? or just WRT54G?

• My WRT54g2 can not see the internet through my wrt54g...

  If you connect a router to another, connect the two together by network ports. Then turn off the DHCP server on the router of the second, which sounds like the WRT54G2 in this case.   Also, make sure that both routers have different names for SSID wireless and are on different wireless channels to avoid a conflict.

• WRT54G2 slows down the internet connection

  Somehow, my WRT54G2 router slows down my internet connection. My PC is connected by cable and I cannot watch youtube videos and gave to wait fo 20 seconds for gmail to load up. If I connect the PC to the modem directly then everything works fine. Reset to the default router configuration solves the problem for a few weeks, but this solution is quite annoying. Is there another way to solve this problem once and for all?

• Xbox Live with ICS and WRT54g2

  I have a PC with ICS turned on and my xbox connected via ethernet.  The PC is connected wireless to my WRT54g2.  For the life of me, I can't configure my xbox setting network correctly.  Once I logged with the help of the network on the Xbox support page using 192.168.0.2 but I can't forward ports in this way to open my NAT. I had NAT MODERATE warning.

  Can someone please help me get this straightened out?  What I am doing wrong?

  1 how the WRT is connected to the modem? Via the internet port?

  2. If you run ICS on a PC then the PC works as another router. You have now two chained routers: the WRT and the PC. Implementation of the port on the only WRT redirects will not change a thing because you do the port even redirects on your PC as well.

  3. the best recommendation: keep it simple. Do pass a wire of your WRT to your xbox or get a wireless adapter for the xbox to connect directly. Connection through your WRT and your PC ICS to your xbox is simply a mess. Even if you got all the ports properly transmitted, I won't expect too much stability and quality in your network connections.

  4. If you want to keep as you have now, you must configure the following:

  Xbox: set a static IP 192.168.0.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, DNS 192.168.0.1 mask
  ICS PC: set a static IP address for your wireless network connection: IP 192.168.1.5 subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1 dns 192.168.1.1.

  Next, configure the shipments of necessary port for your xbox on the WRT. Before all these ports to 192.168.1.5.

  Then configure the same redirects on your PC of the ICS. Before all ports to 192.168.0.2.

  If everything is configured correctly and works well it should work. But once again: don't expect too much.
