WRT54GS problem

I use the WRT54GS router with two computers, one desktop computer and one laptop, both being CONNECTED to the router. Incidentially, I also have a HP wireless printer.

The office is real slow with downloads and the laptop is 'normal' (much faster).

If I bypass the router and the Office of wire directly to the router then the download speed is 'normal '.

I have updated the firmware of the router. The computer is newer with a dual core cpu.

Speedtest.net speed test have portable download at 8-12 and 1-2 desktop.

What Miss me?

If you use these router in 2 different locations, which may be the reason why your router settings must have changes, as each ISP has a different type of parameters, then based on it to configure your router.

MTU is the maximum transmission unit (MTU) is the packet size maximum, measured in bytes, that can be transmitted over a network.

Packages are the basic unit information about transport in all modern computer networks and increasingly in other networks of communication as well. They can be of fixed size or different sizes, depending on the type of network and Protocol (i.e., agreed upon model). Whatever its size, each package contains, in addition to its data, a header, which includes the source and destination IP addresses.

All messages larger than the MTU are divided into smaller packets before being sent. Break them to high slower transmission speeds. Ideally, the MTU should be the same as the smallest MTU of all networks between the computer local and destination of a message.

MTU vary depending on the type of Protocol and network. For example, Ethernet (dominant LAN Protocol) has a fixed MTU of 1 500 bytes, ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) has a fixed MTU of 48 bytes and PPP (point to point protocol) has a negotiated MTU which is usually between 500 and 2000 bytes.

The path MTU of an Internet transmission path is the smallest MTU of all hops in the path of the address for transmission to the destination address, which is the same as the largest MTU value that can cross the road without fragmented packets still. A break is a link or router that is passed en route to the destination.

  • connection iPhone WRT54G problem

I have an iPhone 3GS that I am trying to connect to my home network but have a problem.

My router is a WRT54G that is set up with WPA2 Personal. I have connected a laptop computer and two TiVo for this network using the key I have the Setup on the router but I can't my iPhone to connect to the network. Am I right in thinking that when fror iPhone ask you the password, it actually asks the key?

If this is the case, the phone sees the network but will not accept the key. I just get a message saying that it is impossible to connect to the network.

Am I missing some sort of setting?

    Hello!

Please check the version of the firmware on your router and its hardware version (if it is low version, be sure to update its firmware for more later). Before upgrading the firmware, try disabling wireless security and check if all devices will connect including your iphone 3GS. If it works, it can be a security problem, try tweeking the algorithm for WPA2 Personal (you can use only AES or TKIP and AES or TKIP).

Once you are done with this option, and even your iphone 3GS does not connect, it may be that the router is not compatible with the latest iphone 3GS. Try to connect your iphone 3GS to other networks and network your friend if possible use an (old or new) Linksys router.

In any case, there is no harm to the checking options. My friends meet same question you have, but it worked after that we tried the steps above. Good luck!

  • Configuration WRT54G problems

I put my WRT54G Router returned to service after two years somewhere else. Configuration went well up to a point, but I'm unable to change the settings (at least) two areas of wireless configuration.

First of all, the router is now set to WPA Personal and I want to change my personal WPA2. In the basic/WIreless wireless settings page, I choose WPA2 from the drop-down list box, but he immediately returned to WPA. Second, I want to restrict the use of a specific set of MAC addresses. Wire/Wireless MAC Filter, I can click on the 'Enable' radio button, but it jumps to "turn off" immediately. Powering everything down, leaving everything and restarting has no effect.

The bottom of the router is marked WRT54G V8 and the status page displays FIrmware Version: v8.00.0, January 16, 2007. I thought that a firmware update might be in order. Downloads WRT54G (http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=148648) shows version numbers upward through 8.2, but nothing in 5.0 and above says, "No download of the firmware/driver available." Version 4.0 offers v4.21.5 (24/02/2012). What is the current version of the firmware? Seems a lot lower than 8.00.0.

Firmware upgrade or not, I want to be able to change the wifi settings.

    Options? Thank you.

I use a wired to the router, even if it goes through another router first as an additional firewall. I did the hard reset twice with no improvement in the situation.

Then I discovered the problem: for some bizarre reason, Linksys requires cookies to make changes on the mode of security and MAC, filtering of the screens. I use a strict cookie Manager in Firefox, and once I have authorized temporarily cookies all went well.

    Sorry for the misdirection.

  • WRT54GS problem with bittorrent

I have a WRT54GS, flashed to firmware v 1.52.8. It was working fine until a recent move. I put in place after that I moved into my new place and got connected services (Comcast) and that's when I noticed the problem. I have a PC connected via CAT5 via the router and use the point wireless for my laptop. In the past, my average download speed on torrents with seeds decent were about 1.5-3 MB/s (Yes, it's MBps Mbps not...) I know the difference) recently however, they head to anywhere from 150 to 250 Kbps Kbps. Uploads are not affected... they seem to be on average about the same. In addition, during the torrent download, web browsing/email/etc does not work: everything happens to expire despite the QoS settings I have in place on the router to avoid these problems.

At first, I assumed it was my ISP throttling my connection - Comcast has been called to do in the past, after all - but after testing the Glasnost reported no limitation by my ISP, I tried with the PC connected directly to a cable modem. Result: sustained speeds of download of 2.5-3 MB/s during two trials downloads (Ubuntu Installer ISO). During these downloads, I could navigate to wesites without getting timeout errors as I do when behind the router. This highlights quite peremptorily the WRT54GS as the source of my problem, so I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to solve this other than to launch the router and get a new.

EDIT: I should mention that I have only torrent on the PC, so it's not a wireless issue.

Do a reset factory and try it without changing all the settings except the foundations (e.g., wireless security, password)

  • Customers table WRT54GS problem

After Update v.5 WRT54GS with the construction of the 1.57.7 firmware 013 dated July 27, 2009 (and a router of the reconstruction after the reset procedure) I find that the customers table is empty or incomplete. I would like to know my equipment local IP addresses, once they negotiate a DHCP lease with the router. Someone can tell me why this is happening and is there a solution? (Everything on the LAN seems to be communicating OK, even if it is not listed in the Active IP Table.) Thank you.

All seven devices are configured for DHCP. Strangely, in the last 24 hours, I've seen the devices appear in the table customers, one at a time. Now, they're all here. It's as if the old leases were to expire until they stood again. Maybe they have been reassigned new IPs, I don't know... in any case, the problem solved itself. Thanks for the reply.

  • Windows Home Server + Config IP/LAN WRT54G problems

    Hello

I tried to fix this for days now, and I feel more I read on questions from other people who appear to be similar (at the beginning), I realize that I don't know even where to start... [: Confused:]

    What I know:

I can't access my Windows Home Server from outside my home network. Whenever I have try and enter the domain name, setting Page of the WRT54G (identical to display when you enter http://192.168.1.1. inside my network) is displayed. Seems I found a way to configure my router remotely - but it's really not what I want... I rather like to access my home server, but it does not work. My LAN, I don't have a problem to connect to my server via remote desktop, but not from outside.

I'm sure it's a (simple?) Number IP/LAN, but I just don't know how to solve. I know that something is obviously wrong with the IP addresses, but I don't know which ones to change without messing up my network, server, router etc...

    My presentation of Setup/settings:

1.) WRT54G (v6) installed with latest firmware. Active DHCP.

2.) HP MediaSmart Server (running Windows Home Server 2003) is configured with a static IP address > TZO domain name.

    3.) WRT54G Port Forwarding: all need ports (80, 443, 444, 4125, 3389) passed on to the Home Server (192.168.1.222)

What strikes me (as shown in the tab "Status" of WRT54G):

The IP address of the router is the same as my domain TZO address... is that supposed to be like that? -Need help, Pleaseeeeee!

Q1: How can I access my home server from outside my network without pulling up the configuration of my router settings?

Q1: which of my IP addresses & settings need to be changed... and where?

Any help is appreciated... Many thanks in advance!

    Armin

Simply turn off remote access of configuration on the router or change the port that it sits on.

The problem is that the web INTERFACE of configuration for the wrt54g is on port 80, so when you try to access port 80 (internet) outside it goes directly to the configuration UI instead of the server on port 80.

Don't ask me where it is that I do not run firmware factory on wrt54g nmy.

  • Security WRT54G problems

I see a lot of posts here that address of wireless security, but I have a few questions that I can't find answers to. I apologize if I missed something.

I'm running a wrt54g ver.2. I don't think that the firmware has already been upgraded (how do you know for sure?). Two PC will access the internet through the router, either wireless or wired connection at different points in time. A PC running XP, the other runs Windows7. There will eventually be a laptop running Windows7.

    QUESTIONS

    1. I changed the router access password. The first time I connected wireless, I had to provide the password. Since then, I have not been invited for the password when connecting. I don't know that I deliberately did something to cause the router to allow this specific computer to connect without providing a password again: I may very well have done something I don't remember not or that I have not to the achieve of time was to "Save" the password. Is there a way to verify that other computers, which have not already provided the password, it will prohibit to connect? Like, is there a place I can display using 192.168.1.1 which will definitively confirm course status?
    2. Is the password to connect the same as the password for the management of the router put in place through 192.168.1.1? The reason I am wondering is that I am still able to get to 192.168.1.1 with the admin password. I have not tried using admin from a computer that is already connected to the internet via the router. -What makes the difference?
    3. In the same sense that question #2, https in 192.168.1.1 option affect only computers that are not connected to the internet through the router? I haven't specified the https option. My concern is that once I have specify the https option, I won't be able to get to 192.168.1.1, because my computer is not a valid certificate.
    4. Y at - it a display by 192.168.1.1 which will show you which computers are connected?
    5. The firmware update will bring extra security?

    TIA,

    Phil

    <3. this="" ones="" a="" good="">lu>

Yes. This is one I had read entirely and returned through more than once. I was pretty well convinced of the position of the expert called (9000 + posts was?), until I read this:

    <10 locks="" are="" more="" secure="" than="" 2.="" why="" don't="" you="" use="" 10?="">

I'm always a bit wary when someone tries to make a point with this kind of rhetoric, instead of the straighforward more ' well 10 locks may be safer than the 2, I'd use more than 2 because...» ». This is the part 'because' who is absent. So I left not being not sure what position is more convincing.

    4. maybe you can try Network Magic.

OK, I just downloaded the free trial version. I'll reportbravohelen:

    Thanks for your help, p4p.

  • Troubleshoot WRT54GS-> problem connecting WRT54GL.

This is the configuration I had until recently: DSL-> (by wire)-> WRT54GS-> (by wire)-> WRT54GL-> (via radio)-> computer. Basically, the GL is an access point. Unfortunately yesterday he stopped working for some reason, so I did a hard reset on the router (30 seconds by holding down the reset button), and I have not been able to restore. I tried to do it via the following steps:

    (1) make sure that only my laptop and power are connected to the GL via a LAN port (and the power supply).

    (2) uncheck all boxes in the firewall section.

    (3) disable the built in firewall.

    (4) * apply settings *.

    (5) according to the installation program, click on "advanced routing" and change it to "router" mode

    (6) * apply settings *.

    (7) according to the base configuration, disable DHCP.

    (8) assign the router an IP address that is not in the GS range (192.168.0.2) DHCP.

    (9) set the time on the GL.

    (10) unplug my laptop of the GL.

    (11) connect the cable of the GS in the GL via a LAN, not the WAN port port.

    (12) to plug my laptop in the GL test via a LAN port.

Here is what I do to test (with laptop (wireless)-> gl (wire)-> gs (wire)-> dsl):

    (1) see if I can get DHCP from the SG on the laptop. So far, I was unable to do so. However, the DHCP table of the GS (status-> LAN-> Table Clients DHCP) says he cannot see the laptop, but it assigned a DHCP entry.

    (2) see if I can ping the GS, GL or another computer on the network to the laptop via a wired connection. So far, I was unable to do so.

    (3) see if I can ping the GL or the laptop to your desktop connected wireless to the GS. So far, I was unable to do so.

    (4) when it does not, swear (it's cathatric at least), do a "hard reset" on the router by holding the button stays down for 30 seconds and start again at the top.

(Please note: at this point the only active wireless is the GS.) The wireless on the GL is disabled.)

I tried the steps above, three times and it didn't work. The only other thing I can think of is to configure the GL to work instead of the GS and see if I can get a wired connection to my dsl. DSL-> (wire) GL-> (wire) laptop.

I don't know what else to try... anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well I fixed it. In short, I deleted Zone Alarm from my laptop, re-flashed the firmware stock and re-set the GL. Everything works now. I do not feed cycle nothing except the GL (I have not seen your most recent post which suggests that carrot). Despite the closure, ZA must have been screwing with the flash or the juuuust configure enough to screw up somehow.

I don't know why I did not mention Zone Alarm earlier because I know it's a terrible program that will continue to block traffic even after stopping, or why I'm not deleting it earlier, but I guess I thought "stopping is good enough." As I just discovered, no, l ' down is not good enough.

Moral of the story: I don't like Zone Alarm, and he doesn't like me. If you can't get your router/wap/what is working, and you are running Zone Alarm, remove it and try again the configuration/flashing/whatever.

  • WRT54GS - problem with changing the router IP

Here's my problem: I want to change the IP Address of the router (and subnet) to 192.168.1.1 to (for example) 192.168.28.1 (long story). I can do it on the base of the router configuration page.

I have a desktop with a fixed address configuration: 192.168.28.90, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway and preferred DNS server: 192.168.28.1. Three laptops get dhcp addresses.

Access to Internet is fine, but local communications on the local network no longer work: shared folders are not accessible, and I can not ping to one local PC to another. (But I can ping anything on the web)

When I'm back at 192.168.1.1 all is well again.

Someone at - it includes what is the problem?

    Thank you.

It is most likely a problem of computer software firewall.

To resolve the issue, reset the router to 192.168.28.1, then power cycle your network, verify that your Internet connection works on all computers. Then go into the computer on each computer software firewall and set it to "trust", other computers on your network.

  • WRT300N and WRT54G - problems accessing Windows update

I have the same problem with my two wireless routers. For some reason they are both crashes me to windows update. It is the only site that I can't get to. This happened after I updated the routers for the new firmware. I bypass the router once per month to download the new updates.

I thought it was very strange that this happened only after that I updated the firmware.

Finally found the answer. Somewhere along the line (I'm talking months or more) I must have picked up a DNSchanger trojan. When I installed my programs antivirus and antispyware, it cleaned. However, the damage was already done.

Look at your rounter settings. The configuration tab and look at and make sure that your DNS is what it is supposed to be. Mine was to be settled automatically by my ISP. It was, however, there were 2 static DNS servers on the configuration page. If you have them, delete them. Replace them with zeros.

Now, in the properties of your network, make sure that the settings are obtain DNS automatically. Then disable and re-enable your network card and you're all set. See below for details.

    DNSChanger Trojan

One of the most common problems associated with Windows Vista Update error 80244019 is DNSChanger Trojan. You will recognize this Trojan horse by checking assignments of DNS server on the computer that does not have update. This, follow these steps.

    (1) in Windows Vista, click the Windows Orb

    2) click in the search box, type CMD and press enter

    (3) at the command prompt, type IPCONFIG/all and press enter

    (4) you should be presented with the information group. It can be right connection to the Local Ethernet adapter or something similar.

    (5) find the DNS server section and check the numbers. Usually, the DNS is a local IP as 192.168.0.1 or it could be a static IP assigned by your ISP. If the DNS numbers resemble following distance for IP addresses, then you have the DNSChanger trojan. These IP addresses are from Europe.

  • Delay WRT54G problems

Can someone help me I'am a time hard, play games online because my wireless router keep because of the delay, but when I connect the cable directly to the pc, I'm not having delays can someone help me on this?

It seems that the problem is with the settings of the router that you have no delay when connected with cable wireless.

Try to change the settings on the router wireless and see if it works.

Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the router setup page and go to the wireless tab.

Change the channel to 11 wireless. Save the settings.

Go into the settings wireless Advanced tab change the interval of tag to 75, RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.

Go to the Configuration tab and change the size MTU to 1365. Save the settings. Power cycle the router and observe the wireless connection.

Make sure the firmware on your router is up-to-date.

Hello. I have a WRT54G Router that I've used over the years, because my former cable provider provided me with the router. I recently switched to cable operators & they do not provide a wireless routers. I would use my WRT54G Router, but I don't have the cd. I thought that it wasn't a problem because I can just do a manual installation using the 192.168.1.1 ip address. I get the pop up window to enter user name & password. I followed the instructions & just type in the word admin password field & l left the user name empty, but it does not work. Can someone please? I know that I can solve this problem. It is not sensible to spend money for another router when this can be a simple solution. Thanks in advance for your help.

Press and hold the reset on the back for 30 seconds and then release. Wait 10 seconds and power cycle. Now, try again.
