Why doesn't my XP 32 OS full Bank 4 GB of RAM, DESA BIOS?

All versions of Windows 32-bit client (XP/Vista/7 not only) have a 4GB
address space (64-bit versions can use much more). It's the
theoretical upper limit beyond which you cannot go.
But you can't use the whole address space. Even if you have a
Address space of 4 GB, you can only use around 3. 1 GB of RAM. It's
because some of the space is used by the hardware and is not available for
operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2 GB to 3.5 GB. It's usually around
3. 1 GB.
Note that the hardware is using the space, not the real address
The RAM itself. If you have a larger amount of RAM, the rest of the RAM
goes unused because there is no address to map space to Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP

I own a Toshiba Satellite A110-103 (PSABE6) bought in 2006 of the Belgium.
I have trouble about an upgrade of RAM for this laptop. The laptop was originally a Samsung 512 MB of RAM.
I tried to upgrade the RAM to its maximum capaity supported 2 GB.
I bought and installed 2 Kingstone SODIMM 1 GB Value Ram DDR2 PC2 4300 units compatible with the laptop, but

in the BIOS, I see only 1 GB of RAM.
I tested each RAM separately and they work very well. The problem is that when I install in my

locations of the laptop, my BIOS sees no Ram.Instead 2 GB 2 GB, it shows only 1 GB. I updated my BIOS for more later

version 1.70 (for XP), but the laptop continues to show only 1 GB.

    I tested the RAM separately:
-inserted only 1 stick in the drive and the pc started ok showing 1 GB of RAM
-then I inserted the same stick in another location and it also worked well showing 1 GB of RAM
    - then I checked another unit of the RAM in the same way and worked well
-When I try to put 1 GB of Ram and the old 512 MB RAm the BIOS correctly showed the new value of 1.5 GB
-i also checked the other 1 GB of ram and the old 512 MB of ram and showed good again in the Bios with the value of 1.5 GB
    - but when I tried to put the 2 ram set units to obtain the BIOS only detected 1 GB 2 GB.

Here's the description detailed 1 GB modules that I try to install:

I think the problem is that the two s of RAM are not compatible, but it is not explained to me because use you two identical modules.

In your case I return the RAM to the computer dealer and say the modules work together in your notebook, but your laptop definitely supports 2 GB of RAM.

I think that there is no other way because you have updated your BIOS to the latest version.
Here is the part number for RAM Toshiba compatible:

  • Windows says 6 GB usable only 4 GB of ram

My bios says I have 6 GB of Ram installed and when I checked my ram under windows he says 6 GB usable I use windows 7 Home premium 64-bit only 4 GB of ram. Is there a setting to make it work with 6 GB of ram

    Hi Keefy1,

On a computer that is running a 64-bit Windows 7 version, usable memory may be less than the installed memory (RAM).

This is expected behavior on computers that are running Windows 7. The reduction in available system memory depends on the configuration of the following:
    1. the devices that are installed in the computer and on the memory reserved by these devices
    2. the ability of the motherboard to manage memory
    3. the BIOS version and settings
    4. other system settings

To see how it is allocated the memory installed in Windows 7, follow these steps:
    1. click on start, type in the box resource monitor search programs and files, and then click Resource Monitor in the list programs.
    2. click on the memory tab and then view the physical memory section on the bottom of the page.

There are several additional situations that could cause the usable RAM is less than expected. These issues and possible solutions are listed in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978610

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

  • Windows XP VM recognises only 3 GB of RAM when administered 4GB

I'm having a problem with Windows XP, recognizing only 3 GB of RAM.  32-bit XP has a max of 4 GB RAM configuration (and cannot be extended with EAP that some other versions can).  The virtual machine in VMware is configured with 4 GB of RAM.  However, I can't get the OS to see more than 3 GB.   I had a similar problem with a Linux VM, which in this case has been resolved by installing the EAP.  The strange thing in both cases, is that even if the limit is 4 GB, if I set the RAM to the virtual machine at 3.5, 3.8 or 3.9 GB of RAM, it would always appear in the guest OS as 3 GB of RAM and no more.

Has anyone seen this issue or have any input? Thank you-

You probably see the PCI hole.  See KB 1014006

  • Satellite U200 - 10 H PLUA0E recognize only 3, 2 GB RAM - 4 GB installed

    Satellite U200 - 10 H (PLUA0E) a maximum of 4 GB RAM expansion, 945GM chipset.
This model has 2 slots for memory and each unit of memory 2GB of suppor slot.

I have install 2 + 2 GB: BIOS correctly detect memory
Diagnosis Mode and OS, detected only 3, 2 GB :(

I know about 2 GB limit but can I change something (BIOS upgrade or LIKED) to change this limit?

Why the BIOS can detect 4GB?
    Deadline is - what chipset?
Can I fix it and what I should do?

This is a really easy thing to explain. You are using a 32-bit version of Vista or XP, which can only, because of its use of architecture 3, 2 GB of ram maximum.
To use all of your 4 GB, you will need to install an operating system 64-bit, like Vista or if you dare a 64-bit version of XP.

BIOS can detect all the 4 GB because the hardware supports it, but windows or your tools diagnostic steps, due to limitations of 32 Bit OSs.

Get a 64-bit operating system, and you can use it.

  • I have an office of X 3400 with 4 K RAM. Lately only 2 k of RAM is recognized

I have an office of X 3400 with 4 K RAM. Lately only 2 k of RAM is recognized. The result is that it slows it down for analysis. No idea why and what can done eb to solve the problem?

By the way, he used to recognize the 4K of RAM. The operating system is WIndows 7.

Without any intervention from me someday she recogninzed 4 GB and the next day he returned to 2 GB.

So I checked the bios and recognized 2 GB. Then I opened the case and found that memory sticks to be securely installed, but also a lot of dust near the fan. I sucked inside and he acknowledged the 4GB since then. It could have been the heat caused by the thick dust layer and one memory sticks are more sensitive to heat than others.

  • Why check a memory that I ran I have only 768 MB of RAM when the specs say I have 1 GB of RAM?

Original title: why a check programi ram memory I have only 768 MB of RAM when the instructions accompanying it, say I have 1 GB of RAM

Why a memory check I ran say I only 768 MB of RAM when the instructions and even the sticker on the computer I have 1 GB of RAM?

It is devoid of 256 MB, if you have 4 sticks up to 256 MB each (total 1 = 1024 MB) means 1 stick could be dead. You can try to clean the slots or reinstall the sticks.

  • I have 32 GB of RAM installed and win7 uses only 16 GB of it. Why?

I have 32 GB of RAM installed and win7 uses only 16 GB of it. Why? Thank you in advance.

Because you're using Home Premium 64-bit?
You need 'Pro', 'Enterprise' or 'Ultimate' 64-bit running 32GB or more RAM.

EDIT: Home Premium is limited to 16 GB of RAM.

Is it possible to install and operate windows edition to 7 Home premium with only 960 MB of ram on a Dell Inspiron 531 s?

Aries is perhaps not the biggest problem.  WIn7 needs 256 MB of ram to run aero. You can run it in basic, but with 960 ram it will be slow.  If you use it just for browsing and e-mail, it might be tolerable.

Perhaps because it doesn't do anything?   When he starts using 32gigs of RAM to display the 'about' dialog that is at this time, you should start to worry.

  • D10 BIOS AND O/S SHOWING ONLY HALF THE RAM INSTALLED

Computor was purchased with 8 1gig chips installed. The bios and the operating system report 4 GB.

When I remove the ram in slot 2, 4, 6 and 8, the bios and the o/s report 2 gig.

I have cleared the cmos memory and reinstall the RAM chips.

Although the seller insists on the memory chips live are all good, I think that my next step would be to draw all and reinstall them one by one. What is the best way to do this, start with slot 1 and 3 and then add one piece at a time and restart?

The problem has been resolved. It turns out that the RAM chips come from different manufacturers. 6 microns and 2 Samsung. All the chips worked well within the brand but do not work well together, I guess with some timing differences. I got all installed Samsung and all 8 concerts now appear.

  • Windows XP: I have 448 MB of RAM available. What happened to the 64 MB of RAM lack and how can I solve this problem. Thank you

I am trying to install application constant guard Internet Security of Comcast.  After trying to download and install the product, I get and RAM error message indicating I need 512 MB of RAM to install this product, and I only have 448 MB of RAM available.  What happened to the 64 MB of RAM lack and how can I solve this problem.  Thank you

The only way to see more of RAM is to install a graphics card and disable the onboard graphics of your motherboard. If you do this, you should be able to see all the 512 MB of it.

That being said, I will repeat what I said before...
You can always buy more RAM and install it on your motherboard. Go to crucial.com for more information.
In addition, you should review install 'Internet Security' application or suite. They are not necessary (you can easily configure Windows so that it is very safe) and they often ruin the performance of a PC.

  • I have a model end of 2013 13 MacBook Pro with 4 GB or RAM retina and think to upgrade to El Capitan. Is this enough RAM

I have a model end of 2013 13 MacBook Pro with 4 GB or RAM retina and think to upgrade to El Capitan. Is this enough RAM

Of course you can upgrade to El Capitan. But I think better if you can change the internal hard drive (SATA drive) in the SSD drive. You will get better results, faster than still, you only have 4 GB. This is mine... MacBook pro in early 2011.

  • RAM upgrade and Satellite A200 - 19K graphic card memory:

    Hi all

The Satellite A200 - 19K came with 1024 MB memory system. It's only 2 cards of memory of 512 MB or just 1 memory card 1024Mo in the system of the laptop? I would like to add another a 1024 MB of RAM, is that the slot more be available?

The second question is on the graphics card from NVIDIA. The product specification mentions the graphics adapter as below...

    Manufacturer: NVIDIAî
type: NVIDIAî Geforcea? ¢ GB 7300 supporting Turbocachea? ¢ technology
memory: 64 MB dedicated VRAM (up to 335 MB of total available graphics memory using Turbocachea? ¢ technology with 2 GB of system memory)
memory type: DDR video RAM (resp. video RAM DDR and DDR system memory combined)
connected bus: PCI Express 16 x

My question is, after upgrade from 1024 MB to 2048 MB system memory, is that the card NVIDIA GeForce will be automatic upgrade from 64 MB to 256 MB for graphics memory?

    TAHNKS A LOT!

    Hello
    >, It's only 2 cards of memory of 512 MB or just 1 memory card 1024Mo in the system of the laptop
I think that the laptop came with a module of memory 1 GB and the second Bank should be free.

Now something about the graphics card.
Well, the graphics card GeForce Go 7300 supports own graphics memory 256 MB (no shared memory!)
But it also allows a dedicated memory.
This amount of memory is variable and depends on the available main memory.

I think that everything runs automatically and you will not need to change the settings to assign this memory dedicated after main memory upgrade
