XP - error: the system cannot find the specified file.

I was installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 today and it worked very well until he came to update registry after the installation process, after what is happening the installation closes and then displays an error "the system cannot find the file specified." I tried to close all programs, and then restart and shut down everything that runs when the computer starts and which also failed.

Hello

1. have you downloaded the stand-alone package for the service Pack 3 or are you using Windows update?
2. are you able to boot to the desktop now?

Method 1.
Run Disk Cleanup and disable the security software and t hen try the same installation and check.
Want to t he article below for disk cleanup:

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2.
If the problem still exists together own starting the computer and attempt to install the service pack.

Note: After that troubleshooting is complete, configure the computer to a normal startup. See the "steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state" section in the article above.

I hope this helps.

In the data store, the file type of the virtual machine is 'file' instead of 'virtual drive '.

    Help, please

You are missing the file descriptor hard. The xxxx - flat hard is the file that contains the data effectively. But the xxxx.vmdk is missing, which is a text file that connects to the flat file.

  • Error: the specified file is not a virtual disk

After working flawlessly for months, something went haywire today and my next attempt to access my VM Fusion has been met with "the specified file is not a virtual disk.  I followed a number of proposed solutions here and on the support without result page.

A question I have is it makes sense that my hard file is 1 KB in size and the text in TextEdit is gibberish (compared to, say, my .vmx file denominated in English for the most part)?  The last update for my performed hard at 12:33 today, where many of the other files (including files hard # s 21) have been updated at 14:52.  Is it possible that my hard file is corrupted?  If so, can it be rebuilt if I don't have a backup?

If you don't have a good copy of the file to replace the one damaged with "Windows XP Pro.vmdk" then use attached which was created from information in the vmware.log file provided in the .tgz support group.

The attached file "Windows_XP_Pro.vmdk.zip" contains a "Windows XP Pro.vmdk" file to replace the one damaged.

  • How to resolve the error "the specified file is not a virtual disk?

Hello - I have a ubuntu/linux host running vmware 1.08 with a SBS2003 VM that recently ran out of physical space in HD. After adding a new drive hard I know to get a specified file is not a virtual disk on one disk error I try to add - the other 3 work. After looking around here, I checked the file descriptor and it seems in good condition.

My paper does not help because I can not start the virtual machine with the hard drive, I need.

What are some solutions that I can try?

    Thanks for any help!

    B.

Unfortunately, you lost the data of zero bytes hard snapshot files. I hope that you don't have a backup of your data, since the snapshot was created in January!

To be able to feed the virtual machine - even with the disk data corruption - replace zero files hard bytes per who has 327680 bytes, which is essentially an empty file with only the metadata.

PS: as mentioned earlier, please save the files until you turn on the virtual computer to be able to return to the current status in case you should!

  • System cannot find the specified file "[path]" \hpzshl.ice_suffix.. ". exe"on Windows 8.1

I've updated my OS to Windows 7 64-bit edition of Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit, and when you try to reinstall the software and the driver for my printer HP Officejet J4580 all-in-one I get all sorts of errors. It worked perfectly on Windows 7.

I get the most common error is: System cannot find the specified file "[path]" \hpzshl.ice_suffix.. ". exe', as well as the facility is abandoned.

I tried a lot of solutions from the HP Web site and these forums, but my problem is still there.

I already tried the long solution presented here:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/printer-all-in-one-install-Setup/install-error-quot-the-system-cannot-f...

    and

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c04206080

I even found the directory where installation has been decompressed and copied to the desktop, but the error persists.

I need the complete software because I need to use my printer Officejet scanner, so I can't just simply print drivers.

I need desperate help on getting this new work.

    Specifications of the computer:

    CPU: Intel Core i7 - 4820 K Quad-Core 3.70 GHz 10 MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011

    : DDR3 memory / 1866 MHz Quad Channel 16GB (4GBx4)

Printer: HP Officejet J4580 all-in-one; connected via USB

OS: 8.1 Pro 64 bit Windows

GPU: AMD Radeon R9 200 series

I finally solved it by myself after many hours of pain.

I clean any installation of HP from my computer using the HP Officejet software and driver removal utility:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=MP-110151-1&cc=us&DLC=en&LC=en&OS=4158&product=3645100&sw_lang=

After the computer restarts, I moved on the desktop, the installation directory unpacked that HP printer install wizard for Windows had previously downloaded and launched.

I deleted all files in the directory %Temp%.

I disabled McAfee antivirus real time and Windows Deffender analysis.

I ran the setup.exe in the installation directory in my office.

The installation is smoothly and completed. I have already tested the printer and all features function normally.

I hope these steps help someone with similar problems to get the software installed.

  • "The specified file is not a virtual disk" Please someone help, very URGENT

    Dear members,

Yesterday the electricity of night exploded, so my PC crashed. Today when I tried to open my virtual computer (Workstation 8), it says error: "the specified file is not a virtual disk.

Tried to do a lot a lot of things that I found online. Nothing has worked yet. My head is about to explode, because I had the very important company data on this machine.

If someone could provide a working solution, I could pay.

    Please help me!

Thank you very much, I'm so desperate.

Attached is some useful info, such as my iii and vmdk, etc files. PNG for the image of the full file in the directory of the virtual machine list.

On the screen, it seems that you have lost SERVER - s014.vmdk (zero bytes). You can try to replace this file with a hard clean/empty file (for example a copy of the SERVER - s010.vmdk) to see if this allows the access card to the virtual disk again. However, first save all files of the virtual machine to ensure you can return to the current state. At least create a snapshot after you replaced the hard file.

According to the blocks of data previously stored in this file, you may have lost up to 2 GB of data.

  • VM Workstation V9 "the specified file is not a virtual disk.

I use 9 Workstation and run all my virtual machines from an external hard drive.   When I open two of my most often used VM "hard drive" in the devices section is empty and when I try to start the virtual machine, it gives me the error "the specified file is not a virtual disk.

It looks like all of my hard are present and represent.

Any ideas why the 'Hard drive' field is empty?

    VM.jpg

Thank you for all the ideas.

The following extensions are of length zero and why you get the error message.

    "Windows XP Professional SP3-cl1-s001.vmdk"
    "Windows XP Professional SP3-cl1-s020.vmdk"
    "Windows XP Professional SP3-cl1-s038.vmdk"

The only thing you can try is to copy an empty measure (binary hard), which has a 320 KB on the behalf of the extent of the lack and then try to ride it to retrieve all user data may need/want to recover.  That said, the probability of it being viable virtual hard drive to function as a VM with the first binary measure missing and now replaced is generally thin at best.  If you have a backup of the virtual machine then copying scopes missing backup is also an option.

  • LaserJet MFP M125nw Pro: #2 cannot install LaserJet MFP M125nw Pro because of the error "the system cannot find the file specified."

    Hello

I struggled in the last 2 days to install my new all in one Pro LaserJet MFP M125nw. I tried almost all the stuff Google and this community offered under the heading "the system cannot find specified file", without success. My frustration is huge because I'm not really a novice when it comes to solve similar problems.

Here is what I do and what is happening:

I downloaded the latest version of the complete software for XP HP offers through their Web site. I tried to install the drivers through the install wizzard, then manually (used for the files in the folder 7ZXXX in the directrory temp) but no matter what I do, I get the same error again and again. In fact XP recognizes the printer and the scanner, it installs even drivers for the scanner and it works but after maybe 50 attempts in different ways, XP couldn't install the printer driver.
