Hi D.Bee,

Method 1

Check if the computer can be started in safe mode or last known good configuration.

How to start your computer by using last good known Windows XP Configuration

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

Method 2

If the computer can boot in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

I recently acquired a XP Pro SP2 upgrade CD.  When I load in my computer and try to level (computer is currently using XP Home SP3) I get a message informing me that I can't upgrade 'of' a newer version of Windows.

Is there anyway I can "change" my XP Home SP3 so that I can upgrade Home Pro?  NOTE: I am entered in the Add/Remove software and clicked to remove SP3 but he responds with a message that many of my existing programs may not work, if I remove the SP3 files.

  • Error: The installer cannot set Windows XP required configuration information during the upgrade to Windows XP Home SP3 of Windows XP Pro.

Original title: OEM Windows XP Home SP3 update XP Pro

Here is a compilation of the messages from another forum regarding
    My problem:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to upgrade a Windows XP Home Sp3 OEM system to
Windows XP Pro. (There are a few Pro features
that are not available in the House I now need: (1) the files offline and
    (2) an add-on available for free to Onenote 2007, Top2onenote, requires a Pro).
I don't want a clean install, but an upgrade. I bought a Windows XP Pro
Upgrade CD on Ebay that was Windows XP Pro
Gold (v2002). I'm sure that's true for the following reasons:

It has been listed as an upgrade, but the CD is not labeled "Upgrade".
It seems very authentic with all Microsoft holography.
He came in the standard package of Windows XP (without box),
    and it was sealed.
The name of volume for the CD is WXPFPP_EN. The Internet,.
It is the retail of Windows XP Pro RTM (gold)!

Here are things I tried initially.

    (1) I tried to upgrade to Pro from the purchased CD. It is immediately
has refused to upgrade indicating the upgrade OS (Pro) is older than the
    installed OS (home)...

    (2) I read about "slipstreaming". "Slipstreaming" allows to integrate
a service pack with an earlier version of the operating system. I created a
upgrade XP Pro SP3 with Nlite slipstreamed CD image (and
Autostreamer later, but it made no difference) from the purchased CD
    and a file containing SP3.

After you burn the CD and start the upgrade
    (Windows installation), the upgrade process
    product through "information collection."
"Dynamic update" and "Preparation of Installation" with
no problems. My computer restarted and returned to
"Installation preparation". A progress bar called 'Progress '.
quickly filled to about 90% and the hanging system
at that time there for about 15 minutes.
Then, I got the following error message:

Setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration
information. This indicates an internal Setup error.

This is where I am stuck. I had to leave the installation at this point.
My drive is starts raining and I had to restore a backup.

    (3) just for the heck of it, I formatted my hard drive and
reinstalled my original OEM XP Home SP3 OS (no clean up, no user file).
I immediately used my XP CD slipstreamed Pro to try one
upgrade to XP Pro and IT WORKED! I need to find out why the
properly clean XP Home OS upgraded to XP Pro but my pre-existing
(with the files users, drivers, etc..) XP Home OS does not level
    successfully to XP Pro.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

Yet once, today, I installed a new copy of OEM Windows XP Home Sp3.
I continue with installation of all the essential and the add-on
pilots (essentially all my original version). Then, I
set up a network connection and firewall. With this configuration,.
I ran the Pro XP slipstreamed SP3 CD. The upgrade to XP Pro
success (even if the upgrade not configured my graphics
card properly). I guess my current problem is either the registry,
the WINDOWS, some user file or parameter file.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

I made a file and the backup of the folder C:\Windows folder
on my system that is pre-existing (OEM XP Home Sp3). I also did a
separate the backup the State of the 'system' on my pre-existing system.
These are added my full image backup of her pre-existing
    system a month ago.

I did a backup image of my system (minimum fees OEM XP Home
SP3 with all the original installed drivers over a network configured
connection and a firewall configured). This system will upgrade
XP Pro with XP Pro SP3 slipstreamed CD successfully.

    Experiment 1:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the C:/Windows folder
and the State of the pre-existing system backup system. A startup
has managed (with a minor irritant). I had to activate Windows.
Then, I tried upgrading the slipstreamed XP Pro processor. He stopped
at the same place during the upgrade and gave the same error as before:

Setup cannot set the required configuration information Windows XP.
This indicates an internal Setup error.

    Experiment 2:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the system state only
the backup of the pre-existing system. After startup I was asked to
activate Windows, but answer Yes to the question would be to disconnect me
the system. I couldn't get connected to try the XP Pro upgrade.

    Experience 3:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored only the C:/Windows
the backup of the pre-existing system folder. Once again, as in experiment 1,
the upgrade failed at the same place with the same error message.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Before the experiment 3, I hoped that 3 experience would succeed so I
could conclude that I had a registry problem. I'm not sure now.
I don't know what to try next. Take the minimum system and reinstalling
my files of the user is not an option that my hard drive has over 200 GB of
programs! If I restore all files and folders of my pre-existing
I would still have backup to restore a system state the reliable (read the registry).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the length! If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate your responses.

    Thank you

  • Computer has become slow to XP Home SP3 in February 2012, Please HELP

    Mr President.

I noticed that my computer slowed considerably since Feb 2012 programs / answer games too long / often do not respond.

I use Win XP Home SP3, has 512 MB of RAM, shows the downloaded programs ran normally, again, earlier today tried a very small game with no 3D, he answered / ran 10 times slower than that previously, I do not use 3D.

Windows and MSE is updated every third and fourth day (even if it has auto), can't say what update made it slow. Computer starts and stops normally. IE8 is never in good time, even tried Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, not better, all 5-10 minutes have clear cache and temp internet files. If they are not cleared, download never happens.

Don't know what to do, PLEASE HELP.

  • Get advice on connections wireless for PC under XP Home SP3

I have an old PC of GP7-700 of Gateway with Pentium III running at 733 Mhz and 512 MB of RAM under XP Home SP3, and I want to explore the possibility of this wireless (such a Word?) to my BT Home Hub broadband connection.  My question is this. What should I do in terms of additional material to appeal to my broadband on this PC? (I currently have a laptop with a wireless connection which works fine).  I think I might buy a PCI fast Ethernet for my PC and connect it via a direct cable from PC to my BT Home Hub, but it would be more enjoyable or easier if I could do this wireless connection. It's just that I don't know if I need any hardware other than a USB wireless adapter, so I would be grateful for any comments from the hardware of the guru there. My PC does not have a NETWORK adapter installed and the USB ports I have are all USB 1.0 ports.

You can use a wireless USB adapter, but personally I prefer to keep my network on the USB hub (especially if it's only a USB 1.x hub).  My first choice would be to buy a wireless PCI card.  Just Google "Card PCI Wireless" and you will be presented with many choices in the range $20 - $30.  Just as taste wireless make sure (B, G, N, etc.) is compatible with your wireless router.

Processor 3100 + 1.80 GHz, 1600 MHz FSB, 256 KB L2 Cache, 100 GB ATA hard drive, 1.87 GB of memory; (I upgraded the memory to 512 MB DDR SDRAM) 8 in 1 digital memory card reader, 5 USB Ports, nVIDIA GeForce 6100 PCI-Express Slot available, network 10/100 Mbps Ethernet LAN, Windows XP Home sp3 system, I connect to the internet with 6-AX88772 USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet network adapter. Reason do not use Ethernet adapter was because in the taskbar bar, there was a "Network cable unplugged" warning (internet technician did not want or did not know how) to solve the problem. It's easier and faster just to put the adapter ASIX.    My problem is after about 20 minutes. my connection speed is slower than the previous 56K modem. I have to constantly repair the IP address just to stay online when the settings are set to AUTO FIND the IP address, gateway server and DNS servers. If I set these manuely I am always constantly disconnected and it is a repair click without end for the IP address. I can't play POKER in Facebook or Ant other multiplayer game due to the fact that you can't return to your table in FACEBOOK before you are ejected to the lobby, because you've lost the Internet connection. I get disconnected every 2-3 minutes. It's on a regular basis. So sometimes (not often) I stay connected and stay in touch with extremely quick responses. I ran anti-virus, Malware, Spyware scans (no) (clean). I ran Windows tool of connectivity with different results. When Internet Explorer announces that "cannot display this web site" I run the connectivity program and to halfway through the IE analysis opens the web site. ". The newspaper said "it is Impossible to find something wrong with your connection; The icon in the taskbar says I'm connected. Which is not true because sometimes if I download a fike transfer rate will be reduced to "0" (ZERO) at least a minite before he picks up back at a blinding speed of 3-7 Kbps. I started to hate this wireless connection and have seriously thought about back to Dial-up. At least, it was a constant SLOW. and meadows maddness worse. Both browsers then expire too but Mozilla seems to be a browser faster than IE. This happens at the influx of cutting-edge and 03:00 when internet traffic is very light... Little difference, if any. Hello

    1. don't you make changes to your machine before the problem?
    2. you have any device near your router that may be in conflict with the signal?

If so, make sure that devices such as radio, microwaves, mobile phones are kept at Bay.

In the meantime, I wish that you follow the steps mentioned below.

    Method 1:

Update your AX88772 6 USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet network card of manufacturer's site and see if it helps.

    Method 2:

You can also test the problem in safe mode with network.

If the methods above are little help, you may need to contact your Internet Service Provider for the best help that can be also with slow Internet or abandon the connection.

Let us know the status of the issue.

I just reinstalled Windows XP home sp3, and I forgot the product key. Where can I find it? I have 30 days to activate it.

    Too late.

The product key is on the packaging (box or envelope) that contains your Windows XP Home CD.

If you have lost the package, then before you reinstalled you might have found the key to the registry using one of the available tools (e.g., http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/).  Now that you have reinstalled, however, that the key is missing.

I deleted everything and started again and when the Setup is finished, she has restarted.
Then the message "windows\system32\config\system is corrupted or missing" came and said it should be repaired in the recovery console.

Boot from the Windows XP CD and go to Recovery Console - follow this document to do http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

    Go to the command prompt.

Then change to the C: by typing C: and press ENTER.

Then type CD\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION and press enter

Then type DIR /AH and press enter (this will show you a directories even if they are hidden directories)

    This will show a few directories... one in particular starts with the name of directory being _RESTORE {there is a long series of random letters and it ends by}

Type CD _restore {then the random set of letters, dashes and numbers in the directory list of the above command and ending by the}, and then press ENTER.

Then type dir and press to enter.

It will show you a bunch of directories that begin with RP - something like RP1366.

Look at the last entry in directory PR.  If IE RP1366... then look for a couple of directory entries...

Type CD RP1364 to some directory of restore point that is relevant to your directory entry.  Just don't do the last restore point directory - I would go back 2 or 3 directories restore point.

Then type DIR /AD and press enter

Should display a directory called SNAPSHOT

    Then type CD SNAPSHOT

Then type DIR and press enter

You should see a few files but two in particular.

  • DVD player does not appear error - the driver may be corrupted or missing. Code 39, fix the driver installation fails, virtual drives don't work - same results if the material under tension

Original title: drive does not appear, difficulty he pilot installation fails, virtual drives don't work - same results if the material under tension

A few weeks ago, as my two DVD players (the two Samsung Lightscribe SH-S223Q of) disappeared after a repair installed, I did for the other problems (not sure if it was directly after installation because I don't notice it right away, but it was no doubt). In Device Manager, it gives the message:

"Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) »

I tried the Microsoft Fix It tool (Mats_Run.dvd.exe) that detects the problem and says "Install device driver" in a popup, but then he says "software device driver failed to installed. At the end it says under the issue, the "CD/DVD drive is not detected" and the status of Fix 'not set '. Note that, when I boot from another hard drive (with Vista 64 on it installed from the same DVD, just a new installation) disks appear very well. Also I can boot from the drive as well.

I can't do a repair installation, since it must initiate Windows, and I can't load the disc. I tried to update my BIOS but that has no effect.

Recently I actually moved this hard drive to another one, with another brand of hard drive and all the rest. Just like before, if I boot from another hard drive (this one with Windows 7), the drive unit-a Optiarc AD-7230 s - looks and works, and I can also boot from the drive at startup. But since the drive hard as I want to use, the drive does not appear. Fix it, etc. Device Manager gives the same messages as before.

I tried virtual drives - Daemon Tools Lite and Virtual Clonedrive. When I try to add virtual devices to help, nothing happens. The new drive will be displayed in the Manager of devices, but with the same error Code 39 as the real drive.

What are my options at this point? How can I get the drive to appear or to fix my copy of Windows?

I could solve this problem. I started in Ubuntu and deleted the existing cdrom.sys, cdrom.inf etc. files (as in Windows, they were protected and I couldn't delete them), then I copied the files from another installation of Vista I had on another hard drive. After having done that, I updated the drivers in device, disabled/enabled readers and readers management that presented themselves.
