  I tried to install on Vista Ultimate x 64 German language pack, but it failed with error code 2. The KB942903 hotfix for x 64 (also tried x 86) does not install with the message "this update does not apply to your system.

  I rebooted several times and tried to erase the directory SoftwareDistribution\downloads, no change.

  The log file is not really favourable, weird things only I see is:

  1. What is the service pack installed on the computer?

  This problem occurs if a previous Windows Update process did not cause the computer to be in a corrupted state. This prevents the installation of any language pack.

  I suggest that you reset the Windows Update components and you try to install the pack of language, to check if it works.

  It seems you must have U.S. English language pack installed and enabled in order for Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu run. Or there is a replacement winhlp32.exe solution directly.   The same problem. Cloned old HD on a larger hard drive. Everything worked perfectly except NO indexing and update WITHOUT windows - the two recurring problems that seem to appear on the forums after a change of hard disk.

  INDEXING resolved with change to "Intel rapid storage technology." Google what I put in quotes, choose the Download Center and get the specific to your OP and the controller software.

  UPDATES have been a little more frustrating. The microsoft .fixes and convenience stores were without help.

  Go to control panel / system and Maintenance / administration tools

  Select Services

  Stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service

  Stop Windows Update

  In 'My Computer' go to Windows / Software Distribution

  Right-click "DataStore" folder. Rename it to Datastore.old

  Rename the folder 'Download' Download.old

  Return to Services and restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Windows Update.

  Look for the updates. It will take some time because you deleted the database.
