XPS 400 supports Windows 8 install?

Hello

I have a Dell XPS 400 with a Pentium D 820 Dual Core 2.8 GHz. bought this in 2006 and upgraded to 2 GB of RAM. Is this configuration supports the installation of Windows 8? All the important issues?

It works but it is NOT supported for windows 8.

If your CPU has no option to run disable security for bits in the bios, that it will not be installed.

Not all processors have this feature.

All models of Pentium D seem to have the NX bit.

If the latest version of the bios would be recommended BEFORE the upgrade.

VISTA will have problems before SP2

SP1 is required prior to SP2

Complete installation of SP1 and SP2 is recommended.

  • XPS 400 - Windows XP SP2 can not find my two hard drives when you try to install the OS

Help, please! My XPS 400 system crashed with an error hal.ddl.  Was able to copy my important data on a disk external usb.  Tried to re - install windows XP on the old disk and windows does not recognize the hard drives.  I have two drives a Maxtor 250 GB and a 160 GB Maxtor.  I am able to run the utilities on disks and they spend.  After many trys, I thought since I was my important data on the external usb drive, I would go buy a new HD and start all over again.  I bought a WD 500 GB drive and you guessed it, windows xp couldn't recognize the disc. I use Windows XP service pack 2.  I read that Dell had the F11 recovery tool and I ran with success.  However as I started to load some of my programs on the disk, it seemed super slow and I don't know that I have confidence in it.  What should I do to get Windows XP to recognize my drives on the installer?  FRUSTRATING!

  • XPS 400 can not read a disk of 64-Bit Windows 10

I have a XPS 400 desktop computer that currently runs the 32-bit version of the operating system Windows 10 Insider Preview. In control panel - system, it is said that my XPS 400 has a "32-bit operating system, x 64 processor system" but when I put a new Windows 10 64-bit in the CD player and have it start and wait until he asks me to press any button in the BIOS it loads the logo and after a while the CD Player stops just and nothing beyond that happens. In the BIOS I tried to make F12 - boot to SATA drive but when I do try to read and then it just starts as he normally does, ignoring completely the disc. How can I have my XPS 400 read and install 10 64 - bit disk windows? Or y at - it another way, I could have run 10 64-bit Windows?

64 bit versions of windows 8.1 and 10 require more than NX to work. Another question, I found with of MANY older valleys, it's that the area code is not on the DVD. What causes some localized versions of DVD not working but CD XP works because there is no CD region code. In the case of the XPS400 you have need a pentium D 900 series CPU Pressler and the latest version of the bios.  915 to 960 will work as long as you have the copper heat sink. XPS 400/Dimension 9150 does not support the newer processors like the Intel Core 2 duo processor.  There is really no point to the 64-bit version of windows on a XPS 400 due to limitations of the system ram. Commercial versions of windows 8.1 family or Pro come with support 32-bit and 64-bit so this isn't a problem.

Dell Dimension system BIOS A07 see details

    XP051A07. EXE Windows/DOS (514 KB)

The Pressler 900 vs Smithfield 800 series series can do LAHF and SAHF as well as CMPExchange16 which means that it works very well if you have a Pentium 900 series D.  This means that you can run 64-bit windows 7, 8 or 10 very well.  RAM can be used Max will always be 3.25 GB regardless of cpu or os to 64-bit or not.  There is a limit of chipset.   The Precision 380 is better than the XPS400 due to support new chipsets and 8 GB of ram.

I got my 8.1 upgrade pro at the time where it was $ 38.  If they want to they should buy immediately because there won't be any in the future.

WINDOWS 8.0 is depricated and 8.1 framed Purple House and blue box 8.1 pro are available throughout the retail options.

After July 31, 2015 8.x can be gone for always as well be replaced by Windows 10.

Pentium D 915 are very cheap as copper heat sink.  The license of ram and windows are expensive parts.  You update the bios to the last can change the CPU and replace the thermal compound.  The Dual core pentium D is an improvement.

  • Installed the new HD - cannot set up (XPS 400)

Hello and congratulations in advance for anyone who can help me with this!

Recently, my Dell XPS 400 crashed and would no longer boot (it worked, but it wouldn't boot because of damage to the discs dual-core).  I decided to buy a new HD to replace the old thinking that would solve my problem... not so much.  So here's what I've done and the question:

    (1) I took out a secondary drive, replaced by my OLD main drive

    (2) I installed the NEW drive into the slot where my OLD main drive used to reside

    (3) for the reset, I reached a display using the key CTRL-I command that told me that I now had a disc in which I could use to 'mirror' of the old drive, which is now bootable.  Of course, I followed the instructions to do this in order to get my computer started.

    (4) while the process worked, it seems that my NEW drive disappeared completely and I have not reached my goal to replace my old hard drive AND my computer, it starts now, always gives me error messages and does not occur at the height.

Can someone help with this problem who is familiar with what I'm on everything?  I would be eternally grateful!

Theoretically, I want to do is to completely replace the hard drive with my new drive, use the old BACKUP disk as the new secondary drive and plug the OLD external drive for me to remove files that I need them.  A small crease is that I do not have the Windows XP disks for the software that came with my old computer and I am unable to get them, however, I don't have the disks copied on a separate disk, which seemed to work for the resettlement, but I'm not sure of whether or not it would work on a hard drive completely blank.

In any case, could someone provide any help would be greatly appreciated!

Linux has to read your old files very well.  It is not the OS, you need to worry, but instead, the applications you want to use.  For example, you were using different Microsoft Office to create data files, you would find that in order to make the use of these old files, you need something that is compatible with Microsoft Office to read or modify.  Fortunately, there are applications that can do it.  Open Office is one of them, and I'm fairly certain that they have a version that runs on Linux.  The only thing you will not be able to do it is using Microsoft Office because it will not install on Linux.  You will encounter similar problems with each type of file that you created.  In most cases, you will be able to find compatible substitutes for original programs, but there are exceptions.

EDIT: I have to say that I forgot to mention that I'm talking about Windows XP in the paragraphs above with regard to service packs.  If you use Vista or later, the Council does not apply.

I have heard many good things about the different themes of Linux, but like anything else, I'm sure he has his own set of problems.  Most people seem to not run into them very often, and many just love it because it helps to avoid many problems presented by Windows.

If you really want to go back to Windows, and people of Dell cannot accommodate you at a price you will find reasonable, you could try e - Bay or similar online store.  It is my understanding that a lot of people sell their old floppy disks to install OEM Dell through this kind of output.  You need an installation CD of Windows from Dell that incorporates at least Service Pack 2, and Service Pack 3 would be nice.  The old installation diskettes don't work well on many computers produced since 2005 because of the change of PCI - e for the video.  Older drives simply do not have the drivers for the PCI-e bus.  If your computer is old enough to use AGP or earlier, it is not so much a problem.

The computer is always looking for your old disks because the BIOS setting told him to do.  When you delete a record permanently, you should return to the controller settings in the system setup (F2 during the automatic test after a start screen) and stop the ports having no disc attached.  This allows the BIOS to know to ignore these ports.

EDIT: I have to say that I forgot to mention that I wrote about Windows XP in the present paper dealing with service packs.  Floppy disks to install Windows occurs more early than those with Service Pack 2 have no drivers for video PCI-e which is used on most computers since 2005.  You don't need to worry about this problem for Vista or later version.

  • How can I install my printer model Dell 720 on my new Dell XPS 8500 with windows 7

I have the software for my Dell 720 printer, but it will not install on my new Dell XPS 8500 with windows 7.  It works fine on my Dell Dimension 3000 with windows XP.  I would use this printer with my new system

Dell is not a Windows 7 driver for this printer.  The closest thing they have is a driver for Vista 32 bit.  So your options are to (1) Download 32-bit Vista driver and try to install in compatibility mode, (2) use XP Mode if you have the professional or Enterprise version of Windows 7 Ultimate, (3) buy another printer.

You can download the Vista 32-bit driver

  • How many primary Partitions with Windows 7 installed by Dell on 8700 XPS?

In the material selection XPS 8700 with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installed by Dell (a system company),
My question is to know if can use

    (1) dual boot (Windows 7 Pro 64 bits & Linux variant) at single disk, or
    (2) if not a multiboot with two drives?

    Hi FlaOpa,

Dell systems come with three partitions.

-First is the system reserved for the operating system partition.

-2nd of the C drive, where the operating system is installed

-The third is the recovery partition.

To install Linux on the hard drive, you need to access the disk management in the operating system and to shrink the drive C through the issue is disk management unallocated space it. Then start with the Linux disk and install Linux on the unallocated space.

  • 12.1.1 Easy Install workstation does not support Windows 10 education?

When I jumped into an ISO of the education of 10 Windows, Easy Install Windows 10 detected but asked me to choose between family and professional edition. On the other hand, when I pop in a company of 10 Windows ISO, Easy Install correctly recognizes as Windows 10 Enterprise edition.

    Hi Benjamin,

I apologize for the error. Easy to install for versions of 1511 was fixed so that 1511 ISOs distinguished to be Win10 (before this fix, the ISO 1511 files was unknown easy install), but ISO 1511 education files are incorrectly recognized to be multiple-version as you can see. This problem still exists, we have a bug to follow him.

We intend to support the latest version of RedStone Win10 once it is released. I'll push the development team to solve this problem of recognition of education of 1511 at the same time.

    Kind regards

I have a XPS 400 desktop computer that runs currently the 10 Insider Preview Windows operating system and its video controller does not work and so he struggles to play YouTube videos and he is totally unable to play games should be able to play. I once had this computer to run an operating system called Linux Mint and the video controller worked fine until I put Windows 10 on it. In Device Manager the video controller appears under other devices with an exclamation point. I tried to have the search system automatically updates of pilot, but he can't find. In the past I thought that the video controller was that of an AMD processor, but I don't remember why. Recently I watched the original specifications and it comes with an NVIDIA GEFORCE 6800, so I'm not sure she has and this computer has done to my knowledge undergo updates before I owned it but I don't know if its video controller has been changed. Nevertheless, I tried to get help thinking it is an AMD but nothing helps and I tried to download the drivers from NVIDIA but it still does not work as there is very little information on the video controller. Does anyone know a way I could get the video controller to work?
