XPS 8700 Special Edition - GPU upgrades

Hello. I have the top of the special edition line 8700, but I am not satisfied by the gaming performance of the Nvidia 750ti on the high end games. I want to know what cards I could possibly be upgraded on this system. I know that it is a medium-sized chassis and I'm not sure what is the power supply. I would like to know if any of you guys know what can possibly fit into this machine, and if you have upgraded to an another GPU.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Information on the cliff:

GTX 960 - good without a new power supply

GTX 970 - many debates on a PSU update if it is required or not. Just update.

GTX 980 - fits in some cases cut and an upgrade of the PSU, but gets hot. consider a case upgrade.

980ti GTX - even as the reason 980 and more for a new case that breathes better.

I would avoid the high-end AMD cards in the case of stocks due to heat issues.

And, you can easily sell your 750ti on eBay.

I have a xps 400 and I want to update my NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS to the Radeon HD 7850 2 GB graphics card. The current supply is 375 watt and I need at least 500 watts to run. Is there a powersupply upgrades for my system?

All latest versions of PCIe x 16 are supposed to be retro-compatible with all older versions.  While 2.0, 2.1 or 3.0 it should work.  It has also been shown that there is no significant loss of performance, put a card 3.0 on an old motherboard with an earlier version, when it comes to games.  After what you just said about a future update, go with the HD SA 7750.

  • In view of the XPS 8700 with GTX 970 upgrade, what would be the necessary power supply / & will fit in the case?

To anyone who has successfully upgraded their diet to accommodate a more power hungry GPUS, what EXACT PSU did you purchase and how much was easy to install? Links to sites of sale would be great.

    Thank you.

Personally, I bought a power supply Corsair CX600M it was 150mm, so it should fit in your case.

  • p2714t and xps 8700

Can I install p2714t on my new xps 8700 special edition touchscreen monitor?

Yes, you can. Strangely, these two products have even been sold together in some cases: (external, not associated with DELL, Web site for reference only) http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/dell-cis/view/938987/?page=0

As a general rule, all what you have to do is install the drivers and plug it and potentially to calibrate.

Not know if you have any questions or concerns about its use in the community. Each different configuration system AHS and your 8700 is not the same as the world 8700 if sometimes complex issues may arise. :)

  • Advice needed for new XPS 8700

    Hello

My old XPS 8100 bit the dust, and I am currently using an old Inspiron.

I was watching the 'Special Edition' XPS 8700 - good price and specifications, but he offers victory 8.1 with a free upgrade to win10. Other 8700 XPS comes pre-installed with Win10, but the specs are not as attractive.

I'm intimidated by the prospect, not to download and install win10 BUT what scares me, is that the drivers for the video and audio might get all screwed up in the process.

Can you give me advice about what to choose?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jane

    Hi Smiseel,

If you like the specifications for the 8700 Special Edition, buy it. You have until July to free download Windows 10 next. You don't need to worry about installing drivers, you can come back to the forum and we will help you with it.

  • S2240Ms + AMD Radeon R9 270 XPS (8700), Configuration cable

I want to connect two monitors to my dell xps 8700 special issue.  I don't know what cable buy and adapter to use ports

    * Monitor Dell model?  Dell 2 S2240M 21.5 "

    * What specific model of computer, desktop/laptop?  Desktop Dell 8700, special edition
    * What operating system? 8.1 Windows 64-bit
    * Which video card? AMD Radeon HD R9 270 2 GB of GDDR5 memory
    * Which ports are available for the video card? looks like two dvi ports, but they are slightly different in the search
    * Which video output from the video card port video on the port monitor do you use?  Currently I use the top port dvi + dvi-> vga converter to connect a monitor.  It works well
    * What cable are you using to set the video card to the monitor?  That's what I'm trying to understand, what s that I should buy.
    * You use the Dell supplied cable?  I plan to buy one in the store

I went to Fry and bought two cables DVI - D to DVI - D single link.  Given that the video card has two DVI connectors, I just connected a cable to each connector and the other end to the monitors and voila, it worked.

  • This card will fit in my XPS 8700?

I recently bought an XPS 8700 and thought to upgrade his graphics card. I'm looking at one is the EVGA 4 GB Geforce GTX 770 here:

    http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Superclocked-Dual-Link-Graphics-04G-P4-3774-KR/dp/B00E5AEIKE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1382478542&sr=1-1&keywords=EVGA+GeForce+GTX+770+Superclocked+with+ACX+Cooler+4+GB+GDDR5+256-Bit+Dual-Link+DVI-I%2FDVI-D+HDMI+DP+SLI+Ready+Graphics+Card+04G-P4-3774-KR

The card is listed with the dimensions of 12.9 x 9.5 x 2.9 inches. After looking at the inside of the case I am afraid that this card does not. Can someone help me with the question of whether this card will fit in a case of XPS 8700?

Either by the way, I am aware of the problems of compatibility with the 8700 UEFI and have already bought a beefier power supply for a new card.

    Thanks for the help!

    Hello NinthLayer,

Dell XPS 8700 has never been tested with the EVGA 4 GB GeForce GXT 770. However, few users have installed nVIdia GeForce GTX 770 2 GB successfully on their XPS 8700. The nVIdia GeForce GTX 770 2 GB size is 10.3 "x 4.3" x double Slot. So before you buy the card, I suggest you take the computer to a local store and check if the graphics card works on the system.

Please note: the EVGA 4 GB GeForce GXT 770 requires minimum of POWER supply 600W with PCI-E power 2 connector x 8 pins.

    I hope this helps!

  • Upgrade GPU for XPS 8700

As the title says, I have a question about the Dell XPS 8700. I wanted to update the graphics card and after browsing through the forum, I think I already know the answer, but would have an EVGA GeForce GTX 960 to adapt and be compatible.

The dimensions of the GPU are 4.38 inches x 10.1 inches x 2 inches with a request for a power of 400 W.

There is an entire thread dedicated to the XPS 8700 / nVidia GTX upgrade.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19611037

you don't need to upgrade the power supply for a GTX 960, and most will fit.

Regarding the power supply, I went with Seasonic X - 650 s and they are a little longer than the original but adapt easily.

  • Power of 8700 XPS and card GPU Upgrade Question.

What I should improve my diet?

If so, can anyone recommend a diet that will work with XPS 8700 and the card GTX 1060?

    Thank you.

stock PSU will work. a few years 1060 have 8 pin PCI power and need an adapter. Among the two and six to eight adapter.

  • XPS 8700 GPU upgrade

My PC is the 8700 XPS, described in my GIS unit. Non-SE.

Double boots both Windows 7 Pro and 8, secure boot disabled.

Current GPU is the AMD Radeon 7570 (OEM) that comes with it. I see this same pattern can also run the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 645 (OEM). It's basically a quick replacement? Obviously, the PSU is OK, as the POWER 460 block is the same in all models.

Will be one of the 6 pins that is not in use, it will take if yes, is it important that we? I noticed that they are numbered differently, probably just to label a connection. I found them hidden behind the other sons.

Finally, if everything is compatible, should I use the current Dell supplied drivers for the stability of the system (all the installed drivers are provided Dell), or I let NVIDIA auto detect & install?

This has been a great PC for me, the XPS 8700 packs a lot of power in a mid-size Tower. Just, I want better video & don't want to deal with swaps of power supply, which could void my warranty.

Thank you very much for any help given.

    CAT

Unfortunately, you will need to move to a GTX 660 to get a display port.  I'd go with the HD 7770 HERE that is actually better than the GTX 650 for about the same cost.

  • 8900 special edition upgrades

Just buy the 8900 special edition with tuberculosis and SSD hard drives.

I would like to upgrade the GPU GTX 960 to the 970.  Even if the plug indicates 460W power would work, all other sources, including the NVIDIA said less a Psalm of 500W my question is the 460W can be improved?  If so, all of the recommendations.  The less strain on the supply power, perhaps a 750W?  A PS upgraded and the 970 would in this case / motherboard?

Yes, you can upgrade the power SUPPLY and graphics card, and IMO, a GTX 970 is a great upgrad.

Order the thread upgrade GTX graphics card for XPS 8700, since the case is very close.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19611037

The limiting factor for the power supply is the depth.

I have a seasonic X 650 in two 8700 s and it is a tight fit but works perfectly, and with the fan silent, the system is very quiet.

I would like a link to a few suggestions, but the forum will eventually block my links.

the EVGA 'G2' or 'GS' models look really good and nothing built by Seasonic tends to be good.

You will also hear some will get by with the stock power supply, but it's not worth it to me.

  • XPS 8700 SSD upgrade

    Hello!

Just bought a XPS 8700 and would like to Exchange hard-shore out and put in Samsung 840 Pro SSD in. Could use some indications, there isn't an msata on this forum, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Something special, I do in the bios that select the new drive?

the OS will install on another drive? If so, just do a backup and re - install the new drive? or do I need to get a new copy of the retail of windows 8 to do this?

Opening it will not void the warranty that I can upgrade the disk and memory, but if I have problems I send to dell in the State of origin in that I bought right?

    Hi chrisyackulic,

mSATA reader uses the SSD technology to make the system faster. If you replace the mechanical hard drive normal with hard drive SSD technology TSRI functionality could be cancelled.

However, to use the SSD on the system please change the SATA mode in BIOS to AHCI TSRI. You will need a reinstall the operating system to install on the system drive. The backup image will not work because the SATA operation mode is different with a previous hard disk.

You can use the link below to place a request to reinstall the operating system drive.

    http://Dell.to/TmYffg

If you are not able to make a request to the disk from the link above, then please send me a private message with serial number of the computer, name registered in the purchasing system and email address so that I can check out what we can do. To send a private message, click on my name, and choose Start conversation.

Replacing the hard drive or memory on the system will not void the warranty.

What else would you recommend and it would be worthwhile to upgrade.

    Thank you

Here are the specifications of your HP Pavilion dv6880se influx special edition Entertainment Notebook computer. Based on the specs of this model, there is very little that can be improved and it is unlikely you will see any performance gain.
