XPS 8700 Windows 7 64 card reader disappears!

Often ill put a SD or CF card into the internal card reader and it disappears from my computer and Device Manager.  No just went wrong! The only way to recover is system sleep and power cord to "unplug". Works for 2 or 3 times and the same thing happens. Dell tried a few software and settings of bugs but that did not work. Then the sent me a new media card reader but same thing happens. Now, they want to replace motherboard and power supply, but I doubt that a is too. Any help or ideas would be great.

Yes, a very common problem with my XPS 8700. Has been through a lot of readers of cards, motherboards, etc.

(1) make sure you eject the card reader in the computer drives; the old 'My Computer'. Yes, of course, it's elementary, but several times I just grabbed the first card reader. It applies to remove it from your camera. Don't forget that the camera is turned off before removing.

2) the "fix"

It can be irritating, but it you have to remove the side panel and pull the wire connecting the card reader to the motherboard to the wide where it attaches to the motherboard. Then just reconnect and the card reader drives will reappear.

Technically you should do with the machine power off and unplugged power cord, but I use one of these long slender beak pliers to reach in and get a firm grip on the connector. Just a quick pull and a quick replacement. I would look at the readers to return what they have always done for me. I don't know if it is successful with the machine off. You must be very spastic to not be able to disconnect and reconnect the small connector without touching anything else. A light is useful depending on the ambient light.

Personally, my CPU is just off the right side of my office, so I always leave the left in Panel enough air flow, but it is certainly easy enough to remove.

It is difficult to say how long it will last. Finally, it will fail again may 20 all-purpose or more, but I keep the needle forceps nearby. A 2 minute job.

Good luck!

Hi, I bought a new Dell XPS 8700 three months ago.  It comes with Windows 8, even if I asked for preinstalled Win10.  The Win10 upgrade process was fairly straightforward.  However so far three times the SD card reader stopped working.  I fix it by reinstalling the drivers.  Its not working again and my USB stopped working also.  Is there a background process that interferes with USB / SD card drivers?  Anyone else noticed this behavior.

    Rgds Frank

    You can try this:

Go into Device Manager, and then double-click the entry for your SD card reader. Assuming that he has one, click on the power management tab, and uncheck the box 'allow the PC turns off... ». Now, do the same thing in Manager of devices for all your USB root hubs.

Then go to the options screen to win 10 powers, click on advanced settings and turn off hybrid sleep. Reboot and see if that helps.

    Hello

Not all types of SD cards will be recognized in your PC. Use only SD and SDHC cards.

Look at this MS post on SD card reader problems.  There are some excellent suggestions.

Also, go to start and type in autoplay. Then on the right, click settings, and then press ENTER. You can then change the settings for each type of removable media.

  • Media card reader disappears from leading to the card not being recognized under computer

Original title: two years with media player card hardware/software problem?

When I insert my card player media the G, H, I and J readers disappear which leads to the card is not recognized. If I completely shut down my computer, they come back and the card will read for this session. This does not happen if I do a simple reboot. My computer is not quite two years old and it lasts since almost the beginning. Dell has replaced once the card reader and cable three times and the motherboard. The last technician who came to me thinking that it might be a software Bus USB error. All drivers have been updated. I am at my wits end, because the problem does not happen whenever I inserted the card, but now, it happens more frequently. This problem seems to occur with the map of media player. And Yes, it happens with all Media Player cards. I mainly use this computer to upload photos. I was told NOT to back up my computer because, if it was a software problem I just would be to reinstall the problem once I did a restore. Is there someone out there who can help?

    Hi Chris,

I was finally brave enough to install the updates of the firmware. I went from the 7.8 version version 7.12, but no luck. Initially, it worked, but once my computer came into fashion 'sleep', and I returned to use again, it didn't work. This has been a problem for almost all the time that I owned the computer. Very very frustrating!

    Any other suggestions, anyone?

    Hello. I have a HP a6614f running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Lately, my guard card reader disappears from my computer and stop reading my SD card. It is a problem that suddenly appears a year ago. I fixed it by closing the PC, by unplugging and then plugging in the media card reader connector. The problem would come back every now and then, but could be solved by using the same process.

Lately however the problem that happens almost every time I take my SD card. I withdraw, snap a few photos on my camera, put the card back in and there is no green light on the drive or drives appear in my computer. I can solve this problem at once more have disconnected and reconnected in the connector, but it's tiring because it always forces me to shut down the PC and open the tower.

Is there a reason why this happens and is there a permanent fix?

I ended up buying a USB multimedia card reader.

    Hello!

The card reader is listed in the device with the yellow exclamation point Manager?

Normally, I suggest that you should try the Windows Vista driver card reader, but there is no driver on Vista card reader available on the Toshiba site.

So it seems that you have to live with this problem or you try a driver from another laptop computer card reader

Thanks to chrism and EVGA tech support (their response below) that allowed the solution!

    Hello

... You happen to have all USB 3.0 devices connected to the computer? I've seen where some XPS systems will be not cold start with connected USB 3.0 devices or USB 3.0 ports used. Another difficulty can be completely disable USB boot options in the BIOS menu. ...

  • WPD file system volume driver, card reader, code 10

Used to have a Vista system to windows 7 update on top and the card reader has worked without any problems, in fact a full install of windows 7, the card reader appears four times (once for each location in the card reader) 'device cant start code 10' 'WPD file system volume driver. " If for example, I put a Memory stick card in the slot, he then shows up in my computer as a drive can be used to read and write from.

The external USB card reader that I keep with my camera also has the same problem. This works perfectly on XP and Vista on this PC, the internal card reader used to be in this PC also worked great on XP and Vista as well as Windows 7 which has been installed on top of Vista.

I checked for new drivers for the new card reader, are none for Windows 7, so there should not be any question here.

Looks like I solved, went into computer management, the Manager disk and found that they were not in fact assigned to the card reader drive letters. Seed it when the media was designed, windows a drive letter assigned automatically, once the media was ejected from the letter assigned was swept away, this caused the WPD 10 error, so I manually set a drive letter for each location on the card reader all errors are now gone.

  • Please help trouble Code 43 error graphics card for XPS 8700 (as well as the disappearance of sleep/Standby Mode) (Windows 10)

I got my XPS in 2014 and my warranty of service completed in 2015 Jan before I installed Windows 10. So since I've upgraded to Windows 10 I started having problems with by XPS 8700. Now, I have no guarantee. I thought he would go better once they have released an update of the BIOS and it did for a while unfortunately in recent months, I noticed two major issues.

    (1) upon the starting and restarting my computer, my monitor does not end up receiving the signal from the computer and remains dark.

-Checking that it is not a problem with the monitor by testing with other computers

-J' checked in the Device Manager and there was a next yellow alert for graphic cards / NVIDIA GeForce GT 635

-By clicking on, he showed me this: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Unfortunately, it is not the only problem with the graphics card.

    (2) "sleep" my mode is gone (it is related to graphics and BIOS).

-J' tried the go in power to add setting but it was not yet listed.

-I went to the command prompt and looked powercfg.exe that's what I discovered:

Also, I would if I could have the option to upgrade my PC to sleep. I really miss it and do not have to constantly reboot my computer to be able to see anything on the monitor.

I hope someone can help me with these questions without having to reset the pc and reinstall, all over again, that the problem still exists in other cases (I don't have a copy of the installation of programs pre-installed dells so...). This computer is only 2 years old, it didn't need to be retired.
