Yahoo Search bar now appears on my new tabs Firefox pages
Before you answer that, I ALREADY deleted the Yahoo option toolbar already in TOOLS > OPTIONS > SEARCH box. In both upper search bar, I removed all evidence of Yahoo. Is not on this part. This is the new page/new tab coming with my 'top sites' mosaic. He changed a few days ago and I don't know why. I don't think THAT I have updated to any software, but if I did, it would have been Adobe Flash or Adobe Acrobat/Reader. When the search bar appears on the tiles, now it is YAHOO. I hate Yahoo and use Opera or Chrome, if I can't solve this problem. Someone help me find an answer. I refuse to be forced to use a search engine that does not support.
Thank you... In fact, I had an another "fix"... my computer crashed, so I had to get a new hard drive, etc. What I've been able to find out, however, even if all the settings that you have in your answer were what I had been doing before I posted, I discovered that a program to rip the DVD I bought recently had all these toolbars wicked as automatic installation with the express install option. I found those today and not controlled before screwing the system. It's a real shame when people stir this crap in the paid software programs and make sure you can not escape or uninstall them.

WHY GOOGLE NOW APPEARS IN MY NEW TABS AFTER THE UPDATE? I AM FURIOUS
By default, the new screen tabs must be empty, as if it was always.
I don't want a work autour, or having to mess with it.
I DON'T want to see google, or any other product, appears by default when I open a new tab.
This will be as the strong arm of the end of the 1990s Microsoft tactics. If I want to use google, I'm going... BUT I DON'T WANT THAT IT WAS FORCED ON ME! I trusted to Firefox and allowed their updates and today they have abused my trust in trying to push products down my throat. I'm furious.
Google seems to be the new evil empire, as Microsoft used to be...
"MEET THE NEW BOSS, SAME AS THE OLD BOSS".
It seems that it is time to find a new browser, like Firefox has sold to Google and it is a sad day.
I don't want a work around, I want windows and new empty tabs by default.
I hope that this problem is corrected in the next day or so, otherwise I'm going to the new browser that my friend told me that I should use anyway... AS WHEN I LEFT INTERNET EXPLORER A LONG TIME AGO... AND I NEVER LOOK BACK and I never open new IE.
Please don't make me restart my whole system and cleaned up...
I would stick with Firefox, but you have to solve this problem. I need to be able to trust you.Max,
I appreciate you posting the return. I know that Mozilla also appreciates each of the search engines that are installed by default in Firefox. The home page changes when another search engine is selected in the dropdown of the search bar.
I mark your message as the solution to this question and thank you for contacting the Mozilla Support.

I would like on my home page, firefox works at startup. But I can't find a setting in the options that will allows you to dictate which appears first when you open a new tab.
I tried this solution but it didn't work

See the question
You can change a hidden preference to make the search results from the search (top right) to open in a new tab bar:
- type of topic: config in the location/URL bar and press the Enter key
- on the caveat, promise to be careful
- Filter = browser.search.openintab
- in the lower panel, double-click that preference to switch the column value true or false (see below)
- value =true open search results in a new tab
- value =false (default) open search results in the active tab
If this answer solved your problem, please click 'Solved It' next to this response when connected to the forum.

I'm new to Firefox, but experience a great improvement on IE. I find it heavy to have to open a new front tab - I use the search bar... I would largely prefer a similar option to 'search results appear in a new tab.
Thanks for the help!
Edit: I found it.
This preference can be changed by typing about: config
(1) type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter (click the button promising to be careful and please be careful!)
(2) in the filter box, type or paste the Search and pause until the preferences are filtered
(3) double-click browser.search.openintab to change for real. You're done, you can close all: config now.

You are a person of keyboard or mouse?
Using the keyboard after you type your query, hold down the Alt key while pressing ENTER to open search results in a new tab. This also works in the address bar: when you type the name of a new site, hold the Alt key when you press ENTER to open this site in a new tab.
Using the mouse, hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the magnifying glass icon.
Is there a way to always open in a new tab without having search results to use the Alt or Ctrl key? Hmmm, perhaps, I have not studied that.

I have a yahoo search bar, which was installed during a download and the installation of a http://gtopala.com/of SIW.exe system information application. This is the freeware version which is add-based software. However I wasn't expecting that the search function would be such a nusance and interfere with the functions of Firefox.
The search bar behaves as a tab App that I cannot move or get rid of. There no option to pin the object when I right click on the bar or to modify it in any way using the function 'group your tab' to the right of the tab toolbar.Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).
- Makes no changes on the start safe mode window.

I had trouble due, apparently, to a file named popuptransparent [dot] xul, which I have 3 cases on my computer (Win XP/Firefox last v.). Using my window of AVG home page, I get "popuptransparent" (try to fix) and the results appear OK. But then when I click to a new tab, on the "transparent popup" link in the query "did you mean: transparent popup", NO RESULTS appear in this new tab. In addition, when I reload then the Panel of AVG which sought to 'popuptransparent' in the first place, it, too, shows now no results. Or a panel shows Google now no results. They show the quantity of results, but just white screens for the results themselves.
Links https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/948804?esab=a & as = aaq and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/952141?esab=a & as = aaq brings me. I re-installed Firefox v. 20.0.1 nothing works. How to fix?
Should I remove it from my computer all 3 of these instances of xul [dot]?
Regarding the problem of searching, you can check the extension "Disconnect"? I think it could affect the Google sites and third parties who use Google. You can disable or try its button Options here:
Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category
While you're there, you can disable all extensions essential and unrecognized. When in doubt, turn off.
After restarting Firefox, did you notice a difference?
Could you explain in more detail the next part?
Should I remove it from my computer all 3 of these instances of xul [dot]?
Is this something that came in a security sweep? What question do you think they are originally? They are located in a folder extensions?

If you are looking through the search bar in the Navigation toolbar, this preference can be changed to research it open in a tab.
Type of topic: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Then answer "I'll be careful." Type this pref in the search at the top.
Browser.Search.openintab = double click to switch to true
