Yet once the Windows Explorer has stopped working
Once again with the recommended updates download. This time it says there is a problem with the photos... .and the installation failed. OK, so nothing should be changed. Incredible. This is thethird time that this happens with the download later. Now I have to find a way to get to the restore, I forgot, and it is impossible via the Control Panel, because this opens an instance of windows Explorer, which immediately stops the work. UGH. It's late, early, I'll go to bed and watch it with a look later. Kathie

I downloaded Haali Matroska Splitter since the first result in Google, open the zipper and it ran, if I even got that far. Since that time I have been see two posts above, constantly. I turned the computer on and it persists as soon as it started. I can't access 'msconfig', or other programs that could help because apparently everything works through Windows Explorer. I'm currently looking 29 Admail without loading boxes "restart Windows" on the laptop in question, while writing this to another. Please help, as I am a complete no-hoper to a compliacted question. I used a system restore and everything seems OK. Wish I had known that earlier would have saved a lot of headaches.

Original title: "Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to close" Windows 7
Help, everytime I try to go to the Control Panel, I get the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working and needs to close"
I searched some other forum posts and can't find anything that worksI tried using my guest accountRan antivirus/spywareDisc chkscannnowshooting and antivirus (under msconfig) programsnothing seems abnormal in the printer and device sectionWhen I look at the errors, which seems to be the culprit: "KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17651.Because of this error, I can't (or don't know how) uninstall programs or doing anything in the control panel.
I tried to install ms office 2010 when it started past so now I uninstalled all older versions of office and can not install a new because it says I need to uninstall the old version of Groove (not sure that I have never used it).I'm not good at this stuff so pls be kind in your explanations of what I should try.Thank you!
JuliePS, I have an improved version of Windows 7 and do not know where the drive is.Try this:
1. press CTRL + ALT + DEL2. Select the Task Manager3. go to: processes > explorer.exe > end process4. once go to: Applications > new task > explorer.exeSee if that helps. -
Whenever I try to update, I get the message "windows Explorer has stopped working". It then seeks a solution, restarts, and immediately stops again. No error, just a constant circle of shutdown and startup code. This has happened for days. I am running windows 7.
I think that norton or mcafee may have been preinstalled as trial versions, but I've never actually used them. Unfortunately I can't use the windows Explorer, so I can't check if they are still there.
We will cover all the possibilities.
1. download each of the tools for deletion below, save it to your desktop:
Norton Removal Tool: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
McAfee removal tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).
3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all software (including LiveUpdate and Add-ons of Norton) Norton through Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view)
IMPORTANT! => Activate the Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.
IMPORTANT! => Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed the steps #4, #5 and #6 below!
4. right click on one of the files that you saved in #1 above and select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.
5. Repeat step #4 for another removal tool.
Tips:
-Online use another computer to download the removal tool, if necessary, then transfer it to the computer via CD, DVD, or a USB brand new, never been used (flash drive), or a summer freshly updated in shape.
-Online start the problem in Mode safe computer, if necessary, proceed as above.
-Online after completing all of the above, uninstall AVG Free & reboot. Now do a new installation of AVG Free 9.0, this time select the CUSTOM installation option and do NOT install (uncheck) Linkscanner Search-Shield, Active Surf-Shield, security or the email of crawl components toolbar.

Thanks a lot guys.Hi PaulMazor,
Well first of all, btwapi.dll is a process no system developed by Bluetooth. If you go on your computer, try to disable Bluetooth by going to network and Internet or however your wireless interface is configured on your computer. If you don't have Bluetooth on your computer, try to uninstall it. go to start > Control Panel > programs > uninstall programs > scroll down and uninstall. My last suggesting opens upward, the Windows Task Manager (press ctrl + alt + delete and release). Go to processes and disable the application there. Other that that, I can't help you any further.Good luckDJ -

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)
Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
Operation of the network.Prevx - Home - free
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)
Protected IE - mode
IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)
I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
right of IE)Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x
Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-

Finish those you don't use).
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast
Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.

would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie

Error "Windows explore has stopped working" when you open the file in my documents
Original title: opening a file in the folder my documents
Whenever I try to open a file in my documents folder, specifically a CV that I downloaded on a construction site. I get a message that windows Explorer has stopped working?
Hi dalintn,
1. What is the file format of the document?
2. are you able to open documents from other locations?
3. did you of recent changes on the computer?
Check if the similar problem persists when you access the document from any other location on the computer.
Method 1
This error message can occur if there is some system files corrupted on your computer. I suggest that you run a SFC scan, which would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.
The analysis may take some time, so be patient. Windows allows to fix corrupt or missing files it finds. If the information of the installation CD is required to fix the problem, you may be asked to insert your Windows Vista installation CD.
For more information please visit the link below.
How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833
Method 2
If the previous step fails then I would suggest that you do clean boot and check.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.
I hope this helps!

Windows Explorer has stopped working error - I can't right click a folder on the desktop.
This is my brother's computer, and they do not arrive in his account, only mine. I have administrator rights, but it seems not to matter. This problem occurs only occasionally. For example, I can right click on this text, copy it, then paste it. However, if I go to the desktop and try right click on a folder to rename it, I get the error. The error indicates that Windows Explorer has stopped working, when it says that it restarts, then the Office updates really quick. None of what I found in the forums have worked again this is why I started a new thread. I think it might be a problem with the registry, then someone can please help me quickly find a solution?
Note: I can not run as administrator command prompt because I can't right click, so I can't run sfc/scannow.
We are volunteers here for the most part.
It's a shame that we don't know anything about the distressed system but it was MS Answers owners have chosen to implement this community - do not ask basic system information when a new question is asked that make problems a lot time and frustrating.
But now they way they choose to turn things around here.
Maybe this will help you with your system of unspecified of brand and model with the release of unspecified Windows and Service Pack and unspecified install antivirus/antimalware:
When the Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) is wrong (especially when right click), begin to suspect third-party add-ons explore extension. You can also see some errors of NAT (DEP, Data Execution Prevention). DEP errors are reported when XP will be threatened by a program and Windows stops threatening program. Windows should never feel threatened by the Explorer Windows (or Internet Explorer) to less that some add-on is the cause.
Those who would be the Explorer extensions that do not belong to Microsoft. This means that extensions that you have added. Solution Explorer extensions are generally well and installation of certain applications will install extensions from Explorer solutions for you, give you a choice and sometimes they can be added without your knowledge when you install the new software.
Solution Explorer extensions are sometimes added as a new right-click option, you see on folders and files (like the scan of this file, open that file, play this song).
If there is something in particular that you do during exploration that you know will be the cause of the problem, which will help focus on the problem and the help that you suddenly know, when you have found and corrected.
If you can get there when you want it, make an adjustment and then there is no message the next time you don't do anything, you do, you have found and corrected.
First of all you need a way to see what modules explore you have installed now and a way to turn them off (not uninstall them) so you can understand that we are at the origin of the problem. You can have a lot of extensions not installed Microsoft don't even know you about.
Download ShellExView here to see what Explorer extensions you have loaded:
http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/shexview.htmlShellExView does not install anything on your computer, simply of runs and displays.
After you launch ShellExView (shexview.exe double click) and acknowledge the security warning, adjust the column widths, so you can see everything clearly. Under Options, choose "Mark non-Microsoft Extensions" and extensions not Microsoft will be pink, clear, but on some systems, which is a difficult color to see, so click on display.
Choose the columns and move up or move down in the column of Microsoft is narrower upwards (Mount) so you can see on your screen without having to scroll left and right.Click on the header of column called Microsoft (it can be the way out of the right side of the screen) to sort the display (by clicking on the column heading in Microsoft) so all non Microsoft extensions are at the top and easy to see. They will say 'No' and be marked in pink because they are not extensions Microsoft, something like this:
Non-Microsoft extensions would be things you have added (non-Microsoft) and are what you should be suspect.
If you see extensions which do not have anything that is listed under Description, Version, product name, company or have special names that looks like they might be letters and numbers just randomly, you might want to look at these first.
You can also Google the name of a suspect add-on and see if there is any success on the Explorer accidents or mistakes DEP and what other people have done about it.
You can Google something like:
Windows Explorer crash You must complete your suspect on behalf of adds on.
See what kind of search results hits you get and are looking for solutions or situations that sound like yours.
I'm not a defender of trial and error, but I can't think of another way to do...
Right click and disable the non Microsoft extensions one at a time (or maybe in small groups of 3-5), keep a list, so you can enable them again later if you wish. The result of the change is immediate and no reboot is necessary. Test your failure condition (right click). If the Explorer starts to act normally, you'll know that some extension you just disabled in this group of 3-5 is the culprit, then you can start to enable them one by one until the Explorer fails again.
If you recognize all the extensions that have been added or recently downloaded, start with these first.
Disabling the extension does not uninstall the extension - it is just disabled. You can always enable it later, so keep track of things by writing them down.
Disable them one at a time or in small groups (to make things go faster) until your right click does not generate an error, then restart and test again to be sure. You have disabled the last extension would be suspicious.
You can also disable all non-Microsoft extensions, restart, test your fault condition and allow them one at a time until you find the one that generates the failure condition.
If you have a large number of extensions, you can disable them is small groups, 3-5 at a time instead of 1 at a time until your system starts to behave.
When it does not, you will know that the problem is one of the extensions of this small group and you can enable members of the Group at a time until the problem returns, then the problem is with the last extension that you enabled.
The hope is that you will find extensions that is causing the problem and then you can figure out what on this subject - either uninstall it or see if you can get an update of the author of the extension of their web page.
I have not your problem, but I can when you toggle extensions, the extension is immediately disabled, so disable an extension does not seem to require a restart, but if you think that you have found the problem, I reboot and repeat the test in any case to be sure the problem disappeared.
If you post your non-Microsoft extensions list, maybe someone will recognize it as a potential problem.
If you find the offending extension that's the problem, please let us know what it is that I can add to my list!
