Yosemite projector cannot search seagate external hard drive

Hello

I have a 8 TB of seagate drive known as of the "external Seagate backup Plus."

I formatted the drive in ExFat, and I have no problem reading or writing to the disk. I'm on a Macbook Pro running OSX Yosemite 10.10.2

* The problem is that Spotlight does not search this disc.

Please can anyone help solve this problem?

I searched the Web for a few hours now, without success.  I also tried adding and removing the player preferences-> spotlight-> Privacy tab.  But it does not work

Thanks in advance!

Best

Michael

Looks like you need to re-index the disk- http://www.cnet.com/news/spotlight-search-not-working-on-external-hard-drive/

  • Really slow copying files to iMac to Seagate external HARD drive

I have an iMac mid-2011 running El Capitan, and I'm having a problem copying through large files to my TB 5 Seagate external hard drives.  The copy process is so slow that it is useless to try to back up files more.  Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?  I found a thread from 2013, mentioned that Spotlight indexing is the problem, but no luck so far.  Anyone got any ideas?  Thank you!!!

What size is the drive? How are you connected to it? How big are the files?

  • Cannot recognize the external hard drive.

Have an iMac with Parallels and Windows SP installed Pro computer.  Until yesterday, when we had a power outage, I had a Verbatim external disk set on the Windows side of the machine that worked very well.  I the embroidery machine and I keep my drawings on this small hard drive and access it through a software on the side of my Mac Windows.  Since the blackout, my Mac does not recognize the Verbatim.  I tried the Verbatim on another pc and it works fine.  Turned on my Mac, is gone on the side of the window, plugged in the Verbatim... little popup appears asking if I want it on the Mac or my Virtual Machine.  I loaded Virtual Machine.  When I go to my program of embroidery and search the external hard drive, he doesn't "see" it.  Then a box comes up and says "do you want it disconnected from your Mac" and it must be removed by force of the virtual machine.  NOTHING WORKS.  It worked perfectly before and I can't figure out how to get my Virtual Machine (Windows) to recognize.

    Hi gloriajstitcher,

Check if the disk is detected by plugging it into a different port.

  • FAT32 formatting for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista

How to format FAT32 file system for 500 GB Seagate external hard drive using Windows Vista?

    Hi MVRMVR,

Windows will work generally only format a drive in FAT 32 if it has a capacity of 32GB, no more. To format in FAT32, Yes, would need to create multiple partitions. This, of course, you don't want to do.

I have not tried to format a large drive in FAT 32 but I guess that any third-party partitioning software (Acronis, Paragon etc.) would be able to do it without any problem. Alternatively you can do it from the Windows command prompt. For more details, see the link below:

  • Seagate external hard drive will not mount

I can't get a TB Seagate Backup Plus 2 player to mount on my Macbook Pro 2011. When I plug it into the USB port, disk utility detects it. I ran check disk and it said the necessary repair disk. Then I ran the repair disk and it said it was successful. However, the player still don't let it go. The disc appears on the other Mac, but not my Macbook Pro. It is not the problem of the USB port either because I was able to mount other external hard drives in order to use it. The reader has already worked on my Mac until I updated my OS from Snow Leopard in Yosemite.

Something could be wrong with my Mac that prevents the installation disc, or is it more likely to be a problem with the drive?

I guess it is related to software driver for Seagate to support the NTFS on mac.

OS X support NTFS natively, but read-only.

The installation of the supplied driver allows read-write access, but it is obsolete seamingly.

I just got the last of Seagate site, but it is still pretty new. The Info said taking in charge until Mavericks only.

If this is the case, you can take a from below.

    1. Uninstall the current driver and expect to release a new Seagate. In the meantime, you can have read access to the disk.
    2. Uninstall the current driver and get the latest version of the driver by the developer instead of Seagate. The last time the developer (Paragon) even on El Capitan and without limitation to Seagate drive. (Paragon is not free but has the trial period - http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ )
    3. Uninstall the current driver, then take the alternative. The son will be your help for this. - Need to write to the drive (ntfs) outside Yosemite

  • Seagate external hard drive / / no display

Recently I bought a Portable Seagate 2 TB external hard drive for my MacBook Air. I put all my movies, music, ext documents on my hard drive with my important homework. The reason why I did was reset my mac, then return all my old documents, photos ext, back to their place of origin. I have managed to do and frees a lot of space. A few days after my MacBook fell asleep with a connected external hard drive and now the hard drive is no longer present on the desktop or in finder. I am able to find in my "disk utility" , but for some reason, it shows the hard drive passed out faded gray and full? I tried to hook up with different cables and on the various devices as well. Also sang the first aid option in "disk utility" with no other results. I have contacted apple support and found out it was the external hard drive with the problem, so they couldn't help me. They then redirected me to Seagate Support, and I had already tried the methods they gave me (see list above). I was wondering if anyone here on communities of Apple has experienced the same problem as me, it would be that much appreciated advice you may have. I have important files that I need to recover.

    Help, please!

Had a similar problem with external hard drive WD also on model MBA early 2015. Found if I disconnect the external hard drive restart MBA and then reconnect the external hard drive it was working normally again.

Another thing I tried was still unplug HD plugin MBA on sector and re - a SMC.

  • Seagate external HARD drive expansion will not identify Windows 7 x 64. OK in a first time and fine on Vista x 86.

Recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 Vista Home Premium x 86. Under Vista, everything was fine. Less than 7, my Seagate expansion (1.5 TB) hard drive initially was recognized (I have iTunes library I can't play to prove :)) after a few days using 7, however, I lost the external HARD drive. I get the error message is "software device driver is not properly installed." In Device Mgr, it says it's an "unknown device" with the yellow! triangle. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) "appears in the details of the device. No updated drivers are available. Windows updates are up to date, nothing helps. Restart, reinstall, restore driver, deactivation, nothing works. Tried to update my BIOS, but it is already the latest version of Dell. Trying any other Dell Update, what it offers is the Download Manager, but not actual updates I select. I'm not allowed to use this player all of a sudden, after that it worked fine for a few days!

Thanks in advance for any helpful info!

All this occurred within three days of using Windows 7 x 64, so I don't think there is a previous restore point to go back to. However, I would not I install updates to be rendered unusable and allow my system, and their insecurity. And, as stated in my original post, I have gone through the drivers to uninstall or disable normal, remove, reinstall, etc. etc. without help.

An update my original post, I finally got the unit of work, although not as fast as it was in Vista x 86. I did back up the device to a laptop from Vista Home Premium I have, let it load the drivers it needs, and then after reconnection to 7, it has been working well, but overall slowly in read/write functions and clicking on a lot more than he did primarily when operating. What I went through get this thing to work, I think that the currently loaded driver is for a 32 bit OS, and there is no update (again) for 64-bit. I leave it alone, because it is functional, and if it is not recognized after the next set of Windows updates, I guess I have to restore to a previous image.

Dell doesn't seem to have anything for her, and Seagate plans explicitly on their site that they don't provide drivers for this HARD drive while referring to Microsoft or the manufacturer of the equipment for drivers.

  • Seagate external hard drive

Tried to add a second segate goflex desk external 2 TB drive hard x the only difference between the new and old is there a compatible for USB2 USB2, on an acer all-in-one running windows 7 x the problem is that it does not even though it appears in the menu devices x if I unplug the orginal and exchange its light but can not see the other when added? x I checked the diagnoses that said that they both ok, but no sign of her and its files on windows Explorer running x help!

    Hi Arty,

There could be two reasons that is the source of the problem:

    (a) the player is unaffected by a drive letter.

    (b) there is a problem with the driver for the device of the hard drive.

I suggest you to test the issue after connecting the hard drive to another port on the computer and check if it appears in Windows Explorer.

Follow the steps to solve the problem:

    Method 1:

I suggest you to connect the external drive and then run the hardware and devices troubleshooter.

Check out the link to launch the Troubleshooter:

'Open the hardware and devices Troubleshooter'.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows7/open-the-hardware-and-devices-Troubleshooter

Check if the problem persists with the external hard drive. If this is the case, proceed to method 2.

    Method 2:

I suggest you to check if the drive is detected in disk management. If so, check if there is a drive letter assigned to it. If this isn't the case, assisgn a drive letter and check if it recognizes.

If there is no letter assigned, see the link:

See the section "to change, add, or remove a drive letter".

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows/search#PRD=Windows7&q=+drive+letter

For reference, you can check the link:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/330140/en-us

Note: From now on, you can ignore the method 6.

Please let us know about the status of this issue. We will be happy to help you further.

I suggest avoid you the Windows backup program and you get a good commercial backup program. This forum meets for a windows problem reports. I know that I was very impressed when I tried it. Two, I'm familiar with and like Norton Ghost (which I use for 7 years without the 1st problem), and Memeo, which has a 30 day free trial and you can buy it for $29.99 - you can download it from

http://memeo.com . You can get Ghost for almost nothing (like me), if you look at the sales.

CNET has a lot of reviews of backup program to

    http://download.cnet.com/windows/backup-software/?tag=contentBody;sideBar .

Some of them are free (the last time I checked there over 300), some have free trials (more), and some are buying only (more than 200).

    Good luck
