Z1 HP (Gen 1): addition of SSD to Z1 Workstation

My Z1 has a GD 512 Seagate HDD in slot 1.

I would perhaps add a 512 GB SSD, Samsung or Crucial and use the SSD for programs and keep the HARD drive for data.  The Z1 is used mainly for the work of CAD - Rhino and Autocad.

Is feasible?  What should I do?

Thank you for any assistance.

Tom

Tom,

I watched the Z1 more in detail, and the captain above is correct (as you saw it too)... which can take disks SATA Gen III.  Personally I'd go for a SATA Gen III Intel SSD, ideally also something from Intel, HP.  I could get you some info on that, but probably a Samsung would be nice too given the situation.

The captain has a good point about the clone of the SSD HARD drive.  I don't know if the clone process adds the parties automatically target SSD version, but I've done than for SSD HARD drive and haven't seen any problems.  About 20 of these, but these have been cloned on Gen II SSD SATA a HDD SATA II Gen image.

I got this part number into Google and then filtered by the images.  Ouch.  I'd be willing to bet that they are not giving those away.  I wonder if you have an SSD in there big enough if you could live with just an SSD...

The "Mate blind", they are referring to is the Foxconn, system that allows to drag a tray/carrier containing an SSD/SSD in a container and have it aligned properly (with a bit of unrest built in) so check things with perfect alignment for both SATA power and data connections.  I get it if there is spacing for only two devices of 2.5 "you can choose to use 2 SSD or 2 2.5" form factor HHDs, or a bunch of SSD and a documents 2.5 "HDD.  It's not like you can mess around with cables in there... it's all fixed in space.  The price you pay for a nice package, and this card will cost you a little.

Then, maybe a good size SSD in a 3.5 adapter "in your 671193-001 is the way to go.  Here is the HP Blind Mate 2.5 to 3.5 adapter part number... 654540-001. it's an A + equipment and converts the 2.5 SSD 'a perfect 3.5 form factor'.  Here's a source from eBay that has a good number of pictures, but just search slot number and you can get them for around $10.00, including shipping, from China.  So far, no problem with the purchase of this way.  Only takes a few weeks:

Click on HERE.

I bought a good number of these... even from China (where they are made to HP).  They work very well.  They move connectors correctly to the left, seen from the end of the connector.

    Hello

I wonder if there is an additional port for one SSD in HP Pavilion 15-n003sq?

Right now I have a HDD (1 T) and I want to know if there are ports inside my laptop to add an SSD without removing the hard drive. I want to install the operating system on it, and I wouldn't use external ports, via the USB port.

There is no instruction in the technical guide for adding an mSATA drive. It is on the motherboard itself. If you attempt to add one, you will void the warranty. Even if you could, it's not a device bootable without major reconfiguration of the operating system startup files.

The installation should be simple enough. Some people use even tape double-sided to ensure their SSDS.  The only thing that may be in question is whether your PSU OEM has one additional SATA power connector available. You will see that by opening your case.

Establishment of an SSD is easy. I usually do it manually with the Diskpart utility to an elevated permissions command prompt. You can choose to do this through the Disk Manager because it is easier for most people.

OCZTechnology forum has a section called SSD ABC of that coversall the basics to know about SSDS. There are also tutorials installation here that are very complete and written concisely.

You can add SSD to your machine. SSD being much smaller and thinner, you need a set of media and to connect SATA cable. Please see the following guide:

  • Addition of SSD?

I have an old HP Elite 9120f I want to upgrade to use a multimedia PC. Can I add an SSD and upgrade the operating system to 8.1? He currently heads the MS 7/64. I would like to convert the ITB HD for storage or level it also with a faster hard drive. Any thoughts?

    You are welcome.

Yes, the motherboard has 4 SATA ports.  That should be enough for the two discs.

External USB hard drives are very good for storage.  I have two of them connected to my HP desktop computer.  I use them as redundant storage.  I have the same files on both drives.  It's just another way to protect my personal data.

  • Addition of SSDS to yoga 13

I bought a 13 of Yoga with 128 GB SSD. I think that maybe it's too small. I should return it for the 256 GB ($300), or is it more profitable to add more ssd in the extra slot.

    Thank you!

$300 covers more than an SSD upgrade, it also comes with a 8 GB memory and a faster processor (i7).

  • 750 - 177c envy: addition of SSD for computer

I would like to replace the hard drive with a solid state drive.  Is it possible on this system?

  • Troubleshooting: Addition of SSD and then boot from it

I have a G1 600 ProDesk, recently bought with a single 500 GB hard drive.

Before migrating all my programs from the old machine it's replacement (which some require installs ALONG), I wanted to install a SSD and use it as the startup disk.

I bought a Samsung 840 EVO 500 GB drive. I have hooked up to the system (SATA1), started and 8.1 Win Panel to format the SSD (Master Boot Record, like HD).

    Stop the machine rebooted

I started the computer, the computer beeps and I got a system message "IDE Device Failed"

At the bottom of the screen, in a field otherwise black, was a message that says: "F1: Boot ' so I did and it seems to start fine.

I saw a note in a thread on the confirmation of AHCI, I thought I did this way:

    1. start

    2 valve

    3 F10

    4. in the main menu, select storage

    5. a small window pops up stating: "SATA emulation: AHCI '... If you select, you can change it to IDE, but I don't change to AHCI is always.

After machine has started, and I installed Samsung software cloning and it recognizes the drive and cloned my main HD for the SSD drive. I will stop the machine.

I went to the SSD to the port SATA0 on the Board and put the HD in SATA1.

«Restarting the machine and got the IDE Device message "failure" again, with the message "F1: Boot".» So I did it (i.e., you press F1) and the machine (from the HD).

    I will stop the machine.

Unplugged the HD (just to check), restarted the machine, the message "Unable to IDE device" once again, with the message "F1: Boot.  Then, when I press F1, I received a "No. System Disk" message, if I put the HP Win 8.1 restore disc in the DVD player, and it started from that.

Tried to install from DVD on the SSD drive. When I get to the part where it says "Where do you want to install Windows?" it shows the SSD, I select, which says "Windows cannot be installed to this disk." When I click on "Show details", he says: "Windows cannot appear on this disc. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the drive controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS Menu"

So... Two questions: what is the message of the IDE?

And the MFS 600 ProDesk disabled to install an OS on an SSD? Or should I do something differently with Win 8.1 software restore disc?

Maybe I need to solve the problem of message IDE firstly, re-use the Migration software and then try to boot from it? I have a feeling that is the source of the problems, anything you can help with would be appreciated!

    1. Please check the following table to find the right battery for your machine:

    http://www.shopping.HP.com/shopping/PDF/HP_NB_Battery_Compatibility_Chart.PDF

    2. you need to REPLACE the old HARD drive,

    3. No, you have also a new motherbaord which has ports/pins for you to get the power to "lights" on the keyboard.

  • Addition of SSD on Acer Aspire E E5 - 573 G - 52 3

    Hi all

I bought a laptop Acer Aspire E E5 - 573 G - 52-3, it comes with a 1 TB hard drive and no optical drive. I would like to know if it is possible to install an SSD in the Bay for optical drive with a shopping cart. I just need to know if there is a connection for her at the back of the optical drive Bay, because this model does not come with the optical drive already I'm just not sure.

It won't be easy, enough to tell when it happens, just remove the cover of the bay and look for and see, but I want to go ahead and order the drive and caddy if it will work so they will arrive at the same time.

    Hello

    1. This model is equipped with the same motherboard, so there is also a SATA connector on your.
But you'll need a few original parts:

The mSATA is hidden and not easy to get to but there is a second space for a regular size SATA HDD that can accept an SSD or you can exchange the SSD in the main Bay and put the original disk in the second Bay. Will need you a caddy/cable like this:

If everything remains the same (as long as the parameters go) after the switch, the secondary drive should continue to work as it has been.

  • propeller: additional ssd instead wwan

I think to replace T420 with propeller. My only concern is that I must have at least 500 GB hard drive size.

Does anyone know is it possible to replace the card WWAN Helix with additional msata SSD.

    Thanks in advance!

Maintenance of equipment of Helix ==> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=UM017304 manual

The WWAN card does not seem to use an interface mPCIe, rather, using a connector Ribbon in a way any. See PDF page 65 (manual page 59). It is not soldered to the system board.

Replacing the existing mSATA SSD seems to be the only way to increase the capacity built once disks > 256Go are readily available, as long as there is no standard on the interface of the propeller.

  • install an SSD in Workstation Z600.

    Hello

Description explains it, I thought to replace my current HARD drive to an SSD.

I did a lot research on this myself, but thought I would check here just wrap there are any falls known issues/pit with a ssd in z600 workstation installation, I will look at adding a 1 TB ssd.

    1. installation of the material? the 3.5 inch z600 caddy would not accommodate a SSD, HP sells racks that will fit the z600?

    2. compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD that are best suited for z600 workstations?

    3. how to install and set up? is it as simple as connect via a cable SATA SSD and installing the OS? The Bios settings?

    Any information would be appreciated,

    Griff

Installed a Samsung 500 GB SATA III Evo in my z600... and it works perfectly.

Installed last week and have been installing programs and saw the general use of it without any problem. I wanted to test properly before posting a reply. It would be possible that I have problems with it later, but I would of thought that if she had problems I would be this topic now.

My SSD reads to 282 MB/s and writes to 270 MB/s - write random shuffle (IOPS) (IOPS) 51612 47395.

Being a SATA II gen workstation his don't reach only the full potential of the SSD to 540 / 520 MB/s writing but reading what I read, you won't notice the difference even its so fast... and I accept CC suite, mozilla, (did not install 3dsmax yet) all boot in seconds compared to the minutes on the old HARD drive.

Just to note that does not use a HP recovery disk to reinstall the OS. I have used a .iso official windows 7 and booted from USB (although it has some things useful, I didn't HP bloatware) drivers installed perfectly smoothly. Windows serial on bottom of Tower

    1. installation of the material? the 3.5 inch z600 caddy would not accommodate a SSD, HP sells racks that will fit the z600?

"Via Scott comments, look for the version of"needs-tool"in the post above, mine cost £8.50 and takes every 5 seconds to fit the ssd for the z600. I would not buy the version of the tool-less sugguest... unless you have no hands and a lot of money. »

    2. compatibility with the workstation? are there types of SSD that are best suited for z600 workstations?

"Yes, they are HP approved detailed SSDs in, but the post above, I had no problem with the class of consumer SSDS, but you dice with what brand." The Samsung EVO 500 GB, no problem. You can use a SATA III ssd, but you can get questions as warned by HP as their firmware does not support certain types (so basically if it doesn't they don't help you) ".»

    3. how to install and set up? is it as simple as connect via a cable SATA SSD and installing the OS? The Bios settings?

"Make sure that your BIOS is set to RAID + AHCI (mine was already setup like that)." I used the samsung Wizard tool after installation and it will say that your PC is not set to AHCI, but I just ignore it. As long as ORGANIC and firmware are up-to-date, you'll be fine. Use a blindmate card to install the ssd (see above messages). Make sure you get the latest firmware on a USB before installing SSD, it should be the first thing to check after the installation of the SSD. You don't need to change cables SATA from II to III that the cables are retro-compatible... anyway have a SATA III in a z600 will limited you to speeds of SATA II (which compared to a normal HARD disk are ridiculously fast). Just plug in and install OS. It can be interesting to read about boring SSD, the magician of samsung suggest some things to do, but not all are necessary, either its life expectancy more performance... defintely deserves to be read to the top, if it's your first SSD as it was for me. »

Upgraded high hand the best I've done to my workstation and very simple to do. I'm glad that I waited for better support and cost down on the SSD before using.

You want to say a big thank you to Scott Harrison for his help on this. I nagged him much but really appreciated his advice! Congratulations to Scott and anyone else who posted help.

Enjoy your SSD, I'll do it.
