Z800 pagefile

Hello

Our company bought some of HPCs HP all right, Z800s each with 64-96 GB of RAM.

The problem is that when received us with the operating system installed by HP, they have a statically assigned a value of 4 GB of virtual memory.

According to my experience it is either a dynamic amount affected by windows or a static value of 1.5 x RAM.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me why HP would fix this a little swap file for systems with such a large amount of RAM?

They are running Windows XP 64 - bit edition for the moment, but I am their upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit.

> Recommended in my experience is either a dynamic quantity affected by windows or a static value of 1.5 x RAM.

(For what follows, I don't know if this applies to Windows as it does for a business, OS, like HP - UX.)

Basically if you have such a large amount of RAM, you don't want it to swap at all.

And if you have started swapping, you'd have such an amount of swap, it would be very slow.

> defined such a small swap file for systems with such a large amount of RAM?

I guess that this 'small' value is just to keep the happy BONE, so he has something.

    Hello

I have a very strange situation with my two Z800. I bought used them "out of contract".

Among the motherboards was defective (one of the memory locations that it would generate an error

probably a cpu twisted PIN?) and the other had this error I describe below. So I decided to

two new motherboards think that two of them had problems buying... However, I am still

the error that I describe below.

Any help would be LARGELY APPRECIATED!

Now, I'm only using two new motherboards.
    Z800 #1 config: two L5639, 96 GB of RAM (6 x 16 GB) BIOS v3.57 (I upgraded from 1.18)
    Z800 #1 config: 5520 x, 24 GB of RAM (3 x 8 GB) BIOS V1.18 (it came with the jury)

When I install Windows 7 64 bit ultimate (two different MSDN Downloads) on hard _any_

by car (I have tried many, partial list is below) connected to the SATA _any_ port (LSI or)

Intel) (I tried all the different combinations of disks) on one of the

systems, I get the same error. After the installation is complete and I check the disc

    disk space is _always_ fallacious.

    For example:

Hitachi 700 GB HDD SATA2.  No other software other than Win7 install (about 11 GB

files). When Windows starts the installation he sees a 698 GB drive, which is fine.

Once installation is complete if I look at the drive C: he said 607 GB is available, up to 13%

is used or about 90 GB... I right click all files on the C: drive however but

they represent only 11 GB. What happened to the 78 GB of missing space?

Similar, but more bad results with a processor Intel 320 160 GB SSD. Same scenario. However this time

Windows believes that the player has 149 GB of free space (which is fine) but after the

Install reports only 1.4 GB is available after the installation of windows. With only 11 GB of

files in fact too much space. What happened to 138GB missing?

What is really strange, it's that if I started 700 GB Hitachi drive and I have the Intel format

the 320 series 160GB as a secondary Windows data drive, all space is

available. I can copy files and the space used is correct... The same exact when results

Am I on the Intel than BONE and Hitachi drive as data drive. The reader of the BONE

bad shows used space and Hitachi is fine.

The exact same results occur on the #1 and #2 of Z800 Z800.

I tried the following SSDS: two 320series Intel 160 GB, 240 GB ADATA, Intel

840 series 250GB, Kingston 300 160 GB and several older Rotary readers of

Hitachi, WD and others with all kinds of different abilities and most of the spinning

SATA2 and SATA3 a discs. the results are always the same. The Win7

installation led still misreports the space used, but the data disk (any who

reader that I use) always correctly reports the space used.

I'm sure that I tried to use all of the ports on the controller Intel and LSI

controller and I still get the same results. I've set up the SATA controller in

IDE mode with the same results. I've set up the SATA controller in RAID mode with the same

    results.

I flashed the drive Intel 320 with SSD utility HP, same results.

I tried to load the drivers Intel and LSI as part of installing Windows

procedure, but the Dungeon to get the same results.

I tried sitting on a Chair and standing on one leg, but the results are always the

even. I tried during the day and in the evening and even late at night, even

    results...

I went to it last month. I contacted HP support, but they claim it hurts

motherboards. I understand the issue with the twisted up like a bad mother but 3 pin

    all other similar problems?

I configure something in the BIOS? or y at - it a setting that I'm not aware?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    I finally solved the problem.

The problem, it turns out, was related to the configuration of large capacity (GB 48 and 96 GB) memory. While I built servers with this amount of memory, and even more, I never built like that, desktop computers. Turn, the impact of this on the Windows desktop operating system memory size is dramatic at this scale. Server OSs are different and so the impact is not the same.

Combine hard drives relatively 'small' (160 GB, 200 GB) in proportion to the size of the memory and this is where the problems occur. In a more typical 4 GB or 8 GB or RAM Office combined with a 1 TB drive, you won't even notice the effect.

Question #1: The Windows 7 pagefile (pagefile.sys) aka virtual memory. It turns out that, by default, Windows creates a page file that is equal to the amount of physical RAM + 300 MB if 1 GB or more of RAM is installed:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff382717.aspx

So now the largest system (96GB RAM) with the 160 GB drive (which Windows was seen as 149GB), 11 GB has been used in the Windows OS itself, then 96GB has been used by Pagefile.sys leaving 42 GB of available disk space.

Question #2: Windows 7 hibernation file. By default, Windows creates a hibernation file which is 75% of the size of the memory. Why not 100%? because it compresses data before shutting down:

    http://download.Microsoft.com/downlo...footprint.docx

So now the largest system (96 GB RAM) with the 160 GB drive (which Windows was seen as 149GB), 11 GB has been used in the Windows OS itself, then 96GB used hiberfil.sys PageFile.sys and (75% 96 GB = 72 GB) for a total of 179 GB. This means that the disc was actually larger. Even the biggest startup drives 500 GB, 750Go you always notice 179GB missing.

    Planned around work.

The question of the hibernation: hibernation is only useful if you plan to put the system into hibernation - good for computers laptops, but not usually necessary in the workstations. . These systems will be used in audio and video production environments to the each with a dedicated inverter, so it does not intend to put them always in hibernation. Hibernation can safely be disabled in this case.

    http://helpdeskgeek.com/Windows-7/Windows-7-delete-hibernation-file-Hiberfil-sys/

On the question of Pagefile.sys, we look at a few scenarios.

Option 1 - use a larger SSD and therefore the size of the pagefile.sys is not a problem. In this case a 300 GB or better yet a 600 GB SSD would be very appropriate

Option 2: Windows is capable of using a separate drive for this function, if the OS is on a disk and the pagefile.sys on another. What is important is that the drive used for pagefile.sys must have the same performance or be faster than the reader of the OS. So if an SSD is used on the main OS drive, do not use a drive 5400 RPM because problems occur... this reversing technically would work: 5400 RPM drive for OS and an SSD for better pagefile.sys, use two matched SSDs.

We are fortunate to have a corresponding spare SSD, so we'll probably use it for this purpose.

Option 3 - we had planned to use a VIRTUAL disk on the system of 96 GB. This means that we had to book 32 GB of RAM to the real system and then assign the other 64 GB of RAM like disc data in memory when working on projects. Load us the data to the VIRTUAL disk and copy to the storage drive when you are finished. Partially risky if there is a power outage because we can lose the files, but with a UPS the risk of crashes. We also have plans of relying on tools to sync files to save the RAMDISK in session. In this scenario, you can actually reduce the size of pagefile.sys since we would never use more than 32 GB of RAM. It is also prudent to reduce if keep you track of the size of the file over time and you have a good idea of the amount of memory you use. So if we ever go beyond 12 GB of usage, then we will reduce the size of the pagefile.sys properly.

So that's it. It has been a long road to get to this point. Now, we can finally start using the system as planned.

I'm surprised HP technical support was not aware of these effects. Well.

Hope this is helpful to someone else out there.

    Hi guys

  • USB 3.0 for Z800

I have 2 workstations Z800 I need to upgrade with USB 3.0. I need to find a PCIe card with power connectors to hold the 2 x 3 pole free cables/connectors in the PC. I found a lot of cards, but they all have the connector Molex 4 pin. Can someone help me?

    TIA/Tomas

    Thomas,

Here's the deal.  The Z600/Z800 was no USB3.0 integrated on the motherboard. Z620, etc. made.  HP came out with two cards PCIe plug for these Zs prior to provide USB3.0.  You don't want the first version of the map (based on controller NEC/Renasus), with only 2 outputs total of USB3.0, on the backplane of the card.

You do not want the latest version of the map, based on a Texas Instruments controller with output '2 x 2' to 4 in total. two on the backplane and two interns.  It base map uses the same drivers in regards to the current positions of Z... the TI chip is on the motherboard now but same drivers work.  Here is the map... you don't need to use this small USB3 to USB2 adapter that plugs into the internal card header.  Read more on how you can use this internal header instead.

    http://WWW8.HP.com/us/en/products/OAS/product-detail.html?OID=5153603

Power: The two versions of cards so need + 5VDC power from the power supply.  + 5V does not come to the top of a PCIe location.  A few other cards or down-regulation another slot 5V tension, but not this one.  I prefer this approach.

Do not install driver until the card is connected and that the right tension of the card.  You can see from the link above that HP provides an adapter to get the power of a standard SATA power cable, but there's also the Molex 4 pin SATA adapters that can feed the card, and I even pushed the version out of an adapter card TI power-to-SATA disk as an experiment.  Because 4 used USB3.0 ports could simultaneously take a good bit of power supply floppy idea is not a good idea for long distances.  I'm sure you can get all kinds of power supplies, but I would stick to what HP is provided in this kit.  Part of the kit will work very well.  My necessary adapters some adapt themselves because of the strange way that the SATA power plug is attached to the card.  It can be done, but I had to do some fiddling with to use the cables supplied.

Again, don't try to run it or load the drivers without the good food in the first place.

Now, on this subject, internal set of two USB3.0 ports.  They are in the form of a "2 x 5 header' with 9 total pins to the back end of the card technology, and another port, you see up the SATA type is, the supply of food in the card cable.  The two USB 3.0 ports header allows you to put a cable double forwards in front of the computer where you can site a two port Bay USB3.0 floppy.  Akasa is the best I've ever found in my life, and I have this running in my favorite xw6600.  It is the very high build quality, and introduced a cable long enough to reach on the map:

    http://www.Akasa.com.tw/search.php?seed=AK-hda-06BK

Antiquing for that number of model with google and you will find some pictures showing the long cable integrated, leaving the unit with the appropriate header plug at its end to mate with header card.  I would like to Akasa had the length specified, but for me, I had used to wrap a part of the cable and zip tie him inside because he was a lot more that I needed for my xw6600 construction.  If you choose to use it, it will be more than enough for your Z800.

Two USB3.0 ports are offset to the right, as you can see, and which puts them near the middle of the side front of the workstation.  I do not use the disk 2.5 "ability of this (other than to the cable being wound in) mount adapter, but it puts the floppy bay area very wisely.  It is a solid well brushed black aluminum front and sides are strong inside.  The set is sturdy and looks great.

Finally, speed... you want this card plugged into a fast PCIe location.  For my xw6600 two PCIe x 16 slots are type 2 PCIe... Who has the bandwidth to match or beat the USB3.0 features.  For this version of what my video card is at the top of the page x 16 PCIe USB3.0 card is in the bottom.  I'd like to get this card in a PCIe type 1 location.  In the xw6400 that are all two PCIe x 16 slots type 1... 1/2 the speed of type 2 and therefore too slow to fully use the capabilities of speed USB3.0.

    You do not want: BM867AA

  • Hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys - I can't delete

    Hello
I have a computer laptop tecra s3 and after a fresh install of XP restore cd, I noticed that 4 GB of my C partition are 2 files:
    (1) C:\hiberfil.sys (around 2 GB)

All my C partition is 12.5 GB because of the small HDD (80 GB), so I really need the extra space.
Hiberfil I looked on the internet and this is the info of the RAM when I activate the Hibernate to close Notepad. I've ever used this function and in any case, it is disabled, there nothing on the hibernation in Control Panel-> Power Options, and when I want to activate stop-> hibernation, I can't because it is faded and I can't select it. So obviously this file I need, it's a hidden file system: how to remove it? I tried already the folder option-> view the file and I have uncheked Hide protected operating system files, but still I can not remove it.

    (2) C:\pagefile.sys (around 2 GB)
This file is the virtual memory that XP uses of my HARD drive as ram memory, I currently have 2GB of RAM.
If I reduce the amount of this virtual memory settings, what will happen to XP? He's going to become increasingly slow?
This laptop is important because I use it on my work place, so... I really need to work properly :)

Thank you, hope you have time for me soon :)

If you disable Hibernation in the Power Options (and the Toshiba Power Saver), you should be able to delete that file. If you can't, try to delete it in Mode without failure. From the start to access the Windows boot to Windows Startup menu, press F8.

Windows requires a swap file to work properly, so you should not delete the pagefile.sys file. If you do, it will be created again anyway.

PS. SD cards are cheap these days, so you can use a 16 GB SD card to store your files if the HARD drive is running out of space.

Use CCleaner (google is your friend) to delete unnecessary files from the HARD drive and clean the registry.

Newly installed OS - everything seems to work fine, except for the shot without end to WIndows update... Verification of updates. Apparently, this affects the update of Windows 10 as well. Someone at - it ideas? I tried all the options via the site help MS. Merci.

    Greetings,

    Please read this.

You can wait patiently (updates will appear later) or there is a problem in the article.

You need to reinstall Windows for the fix. Your PC must be isolated from the network when reinstalling windows. You need to download both updates and install before connecting your PC to the network.

I used the fix of Ed Bott and it works. But I reinstalled Win 7 again. I wasn't going to wait for hours and hours to get the security updates.

You can try to install these updates on the problematic installation of Win 7:

    1. apply the Microsoft patch found here. Disconnect from the network.

    2. install the two updates in offline mode and cross your fingers.

    3. repeat on Windows Update.

  • Z800 upgrade for 2015

Hello I have a 2009 edition with CPU Xeon x 5550 and Quadrofx 3800 z800. I don't know much about the hardware specs and I need help because I intend to upgrade. So I was wondering if I could spend my z800 with new cpu and gpu specs. Like the nvidia gtx 980 or titan graphics cards. And more recent cpu released this year? May not use a Xeon processor but a Core i7 processor 2015?

Thanks, I really appreciate the help

    JP

JP, before you get different xeon processors, go to the Z800 BIOS setting and look at the date of the boot block.

If the boot block date is 2009-01-30, the system supports only the 55xx series processors.

If the boot block date is 11/10/2009, the system supports series processors as 55xx 56xx.

This forum has already numerous threads on processors of the Z800 update.  For info, check it out before you buy a few more CPU.

  • Bought a refurbished Z800: can I install a PCI - Express 3.0 card game?

    Hello

    I have a Question. I bought a refurbished Z800.

Can I install a new PCI-Express 3.0 graphic card Gaming in my Z800?

Thank you very much for your answers.

    Gunnar

Gunnar, use a PCI-Express 3.0 graphics card (Gen 3) will work in a Z800.  The Z800 x 16 slots running at speed of Gen 2 only, so the graphics card running at speed Gen 2 and not the highest speed of Gen 3.  Each PCIe Gen 3 graphic card I've ever seen happen to Gen 2 or Gen 1 speeds if they are installed in these slow speed slots.  First check the specifications of the desired graphic card, it must be said it will run to Gen 2 also.

From a practical point of view, a x 16 PCIe Gen 2 interface provides a bandwidth transfer very high anyway, so should not be very noticeable difference between a Gen 2 and Gen 3 interface.  The biggest difference will be the capabilities of the graphics processor, which is a good reason to get a PCIe 3.0 card since they have new GPU.

  • Z800: Replacing a video card - Z800

    Hi all

According to HP I can install only these http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01757644 cards, but seems to be outdated.

    So, the question is
I have to buy one of these listed video card or I'm able to use a different video card for example Nvidia QUADRO K420 PCI-E X 16 2.0 2 GB GDDR3
I'm not looking for performance but an entry-level card that let me to turn on work stations.

I thank in advance for any suggestions.

A model 2010 PC is BIOS legacy. This means that you will have to get a card that has an option to use the old BIOS.

  • HP z800

No one answered yet, so I'll add my opinions.

It will be extremely difficult to put a Z820 motherboard in a Z800 chassis.  Z820 and Z800 motherboards have the same physical size, but there are a lot of problems by using the same chassis.  Here are some differences between the Z820 and Z800:
-Z820 power cables are different and need to be replaced.  The side panel must be removed to replace the cables by the Z820 ones.
-L' Z820 food is different.  It has the same appearance as a PS Z800, but has different voltage rails.  They are not compatible with each other.
-The Z820 motherboard has a notch in a different place for the PS to move the cables.

-Several Z820 motherboard mounting holes do not mach the Z800, and chassis are different to accept the various holes and slots spacers.
-Z820 rear i/o connectors are different, so they will not match the cuts in the chassis back I/O area.
-The Z820 CPU and memory are found in a different situation from that of the Z800.  This causes other problems:
-Z820 uses the CPU passive radiators and a big fan of CPU/memory with 6 fans in it.  The Z800 uses CPU heatsinks with built-in fans.  Times the CPU fan and sinks thermal assembly must be replaced to the Z820.
-Z800 memory fan will not work with the Z820;  The Z820 is the big fan of CPU/memory.
-Façade Z820 cables have fewer pins and a different pinout than the Z800.  We can't cable Z800 P5 in the motherboard Z820.
-The front I/O cables of Z820 are different.  The Z820 has 2 USB 3.0 ports before requiring different cables.
-There could be other differences that I know not glib.

So, to put a motherboard Z820 in a Z800 chassis and the power supply, PS cables and connectors, heat sinks, CPU, CPU fan assemblies, as well as memory, I/O cutting back, changed PCB mounting hole locations, front power and I/O, and perhaps other elements need to be replaced.  The chassis Z800 and Z820 look the same, but everything about them is different.

  • HP z800 suddenly become 33% faster at rendering

I have 3 desktops z800 identical with x 5650 processors in my cluster of calculation used for animations and rendering of images.

Recently, I had some problems trying to boot remotely and took the ram and reinstalled it to try to resolve an error which has been marked by the bios.

All work well yet but I noticed something strange about one of them, it has become extremely fast rendering. For example, an image that takes 4 minutes for rendering on the other z800s does only 3 minutes on this one.

I had a glance on the Task Manager and strangely the Task Manager shows 24 processors in the processor history while others show only 12.

My question is did anyone know how to make my other two see 24 rather than 12, because it seems to increase the ability of rendering by a huge amount!  Incidentally the other 2 are all both recognize that they have 2 cpus, also the fastest z800 is surpassing some of my most recent work stations which should be much faster!

I found the answer to my question, it seems that I must have inadvertently changed the bios on one of my z800s, as the processor on it is about to hyperthreading, resulting in a sharp increase in runtime performance. I activated the other 2 and they all fly along now!

But when I try to add the printer it still says:

The printer software has been installed wrong.

Please reinstall the software from the manufacturer.

What would be the proper way to install it?

The CLC11xx is a very old Copier and Z800 support print server is too old. EFI is the creator of the Z800 and they have not released a driver for this RIP for Mac OS X 10.5. Given that you have problems with the use of the included with OS X then generic Postscript driver I suggest you try the EFI Fiery Express Driver. Here is a link from EFI.
