2 hard drives in Inspiron 17R SE 7720

Hey guys, I would like to add another (an a ssd) HARD disk to my Inspiron.
I did some reading on the support forums and managed to pick this up:
It IS possible to add another hard drive, however, I need the brackets and screws which must be purchased from Dell, if I didn't order my computer with 2 slots for HDDs in first (I think).
So, since things are clear enough to me, I have some questions:

#1-Comment can I check if my other slot these screws or whatever it is that necessary if I can install another hard drive it?
#2-si it is not, where can I buy them?
I searched the Dell store and all that I could find about SSD in Inspiron 7720 was a $ 600 (!) 256 GB one, which is much too expensive for my budget, especially since I was already 256 GB can I install it, I don't know if I have the necessary parts.

And the last - in one of the posts I read someone said the msata Crucial M4 is "certified" to work with Dell 7720, doesn't mean it is "certified" to work with the laptop only with the these media, or does it is cleaner and it can work without them?

Thank you very much for your time!
ZIV.

OOPS! Looks like I got my search links.

Anyway, Yes, this looks like the part that I found so it should work.

  • Ubuntu linux driver installation for Nvidia 950 M on Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720

    Hello

I bought a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 Ubuntu version because I like Ubuntu linux more than Windows.

I can't find the linux drivers that will allow my Nvidia GT 950 M graphics so, basically, the card useless and no power management.
There is absolutely nothing for Ubuntu Linux on your drivers page.

I have updated to the latest BIOS A03.

The laptop's Ubuntu Logo sticker on it next to the Intel i7 so I thought it is totally compatible.

    Please advise,

    Thank you

Optimus system and at the present time, it is not properly supported under Linux, there is work in progress for him, but for a workaround, see Bumblebee project: wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee

Description a little longer: you have two graphics - integrated (Intel) and discreet (Nvidia). Optimus systems are designed with the intention to use the GPU integrated tasks that requires no graphic heavy treatment (most of the day-to-day activities) and the use of the discrete GPU for applications requiring more powerful GPU. Integrated card is less eager for power and voltage GPU discreet when not in service allows cooler use.

Normally you use integrated card and there is no way to use the card nvidia directly if the BIOS does not switch to it. Help Optimus allows to use the Nvidia card for rendering and power down to save power when not in use. It has not been official for Optimus of Nvidia Linux support. Bumblebee is a community created project attempting to address the issue, but it is really only a workaround until the solution has been created. FIRST is such a solution, but at present it is still experimental and is not in any version of Ubuntu, more it is officially supported only in the open drivers source (new), Nvidia has not yet validated supporting in their binary driver.

I agree that Dell support for bids Linux pages are sorely lacking, in fact I was not able to locate a page describing their Linux pre-installs. Ubuntu certification pages are not really informative on Dell changes and upgrade policy.

  • nVidia Geforce GT 650 M NOT DETECTED on Inspiron 17R SE 7720 after update BIOS A11

    Hello world

A week ago I did some updates on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 including Bios Update to the version of the A11. Unfortunately, after this update I realized that the nVidia Geforce GT 650 M graphics card had disappeared from my system.

I read other posts and people who have experienced this problem suggested the re-installation of the bios would solve the problem, but in my case, it didn't.

Also, I installed the new version BIOS A12 and A13 versions but non of these have solved this problem.

Also reinstalled windows do not either fix as suggested by others in other posts.

I also ran the diagnostics on the computer from the bios and card does not appear there either, like the nVidia Geforce GT 650 M graphics card has not been installed on the system.

Finally I run a version of Ubuntu on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and run a system check and or the card is detected, just the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is detected under windows or linux.

Please someone Dell help us solve this problem, because it certainly is a BIOS PROBLEM.

If you're among the unlucky ones like me this saw has disappeared from the map of nVidia Geforce GT 650 M graphics card in your system, please share your experience with me.

    Thanks for your replies.

  • Second hard drive Dell Inspiron 3847

Can someone direct me for information on the installation of a second hard drive for Inspiron 3847 computer for the purpose of the image upwards using the Acronis True Image Home software upward? There is room for an optical drive, which is totally alien to me, but nothing is said nowhere in the hardware in the user manual on the addition of second hard drive that seems to be a pretty normal material adding. No sense in this matter. First time forum thank you poster

    toplap

Dell has not released the procedures to install an additional SATA hard drive, the Inspiron 3847 has a 3.5 Bay ", one for the second hard drive next to the main hard drive, there should be a set of rails located in the Bay, two 6-32 X 1/4, Phillips head screws are required to secure the Rails.

Procedures on pages 26 to 28 of the owners manual should give you an idea of what is required for installation.

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/Inspiron-3847-desktop_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.PDF

You will need a SATA data cable, there should be a spare connector to SATA power inside the housing.

After you have installed the drive, enter the system setup and make sure the hard drive is "on" [We] and recognized.

For Windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be partitioned and formatted.

Go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management, right click on the new drive, select format, then you can assign a drive letter.

  • 32 GB mSata on Inspiron 17R SE 7720

    Hello

Have a Inspiron 17R SE 7720 with 32 GB mSata. What was the purpose of that?

To use as cache I cannot see a way (no RAID drivers on the inside) and OS is too small.

What was the idea of primiry of this material - optimum usage?

A disk fails at some point -, or Windows will become corrupt.  The question is not about whether you will need media recovery, but when - and having on hand means that you can fix it immediately instead of waiting days for Dell to ship the media.

  • Inspiron 17R SE 7720 wake from its slumber when the lid is closed through the usb keyboard/mouse

So I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 which has all of the latest drivers with BIOS A11 (Win 7 Ultimate x 64)...  I have all the settings properly configured for sleep power (no hibernation), however no matter what I try, I can't get the laptop to wake up when the lid is closed through USB keyboard.

I use a combo of MK560 Wave from Logitech (unifying receiver) - keyboard and mouse have the wake-up option enabled in the settings of their material.  I also wake up from USB enabled in the BIOS.

What is interesting is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can do/wake it from Logitech devices.  With the lid closed, I can only do sleep - the only way to wake up, he is to open the cover and press the power button.

Anyone know a solution to this?

    Cliffs Notes:

Cover open: CAN sleep/wake from USB keyboard/mouse

Cover closed: can sleep ONLY - don't wake up if I open the Start button / cover & press

It seems that a new A13 BIOS was released on 18 March, all it says in the section '' correction '' is to "maintain the release." Download it now and see if it fixed more on the question of the USB.

  • Hard drive Dell Inspiron 1426

My hard drive died and I bought one on ebay. I have insalled it and inserted the disc of exploitation for windows vista. The error message that came was, "this disk is not bootable" or something like that...

Does anyone know how to get the new hard drive to work? I am novice of the WADA. My computer is a Dell inspiron 1426.

Maybe the person that I bought to take everything on it?

    Linda :)

    Hello

To install Vista on the new disk, you must set the CD/DVD to start everything first and have the Vista Installation
    media.

Parameters/settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 as you start then look at the screen - CD/DVD to start everything first - don't forget
    to replace hard drive later.

Put in the DVD and boot on it and install Windows. If it boots that disc and then either the CD/DVD drive
has a problem or the disc you are using is not the good Vista installation media.

Check with Dell Support, their drivers and documentation online and ask in the Dell forums. Dell will reference
installation instructions complete on their Web site.

  • Add SimpleDrive external hard drive for Inspiron 9400

I use a drive external 250G hard SimpleTech SimpleDrive. I had plugged in a Dimension desktop computer and it works fine. I am abandoning the office and try to connect the external hard drive to my laptop Inspiron 9400. When I connect the drive via a usb cable, the disc sounds as if it's hunting and is never recognized by the laptop.  The external hard drive has its power supply on so I won't try to power it through the usb port. Any suggestions?

  • Removal of the hard drive on Inspiron 620?

I must be really slow because I saw someone else asked this question, but how do I remove hard disks of the computer?  The online manual shows the years 620, which has a different configuration. This manual presents a tab on the cage of the hard disk that you push and then lift.  My 620 has no tab.  I pushed and pulled this thing in all directions without success.  I have removed the screws on the rails, but can not remove the individual unit either.

    Thanks for any help.

  • Replace the failed HARD drive in Inspiron 1545 without recovery media

My COMPUTER illiterate brother gave me his Dell Inspiron 1545 [Amin Note: Service Tag published by policy TOU] set after he dropped it on the floor.  I used a cart of Sata USB drive to copy successfully most of his records off the coast to another PC (some were corrupt), but I do not know how to go on installing the OS, etc. on the new HARD drive, I bought (a 120 GB Samsung SSD Series 840).

Dell Diagnostics (F12 at startup) gives me several errors of HARD drive for the Western Digital HDD (WD-WX70A8983788) 320, for example:

Error code 2000-0146 test short DST. The reader also failed to conduct confidence test correctly eg 0F00:1348 error Code. When you try to boot normally, Windows Vista complains that there are mistakes, tries to correct them and sometimes I can get it to boot on Windows Home screen how it freezes.

When I have already fixed a laptop, I had access to a recovery media / DVD and a key product of Windows OS, but this Dell does seem to be none of that - just a recovery partition on a hard drive now doubtful.

What are my options to install the new HARD drive and hand over its files on since I have no recovery media or a product key Windows OS?

    I must:

    (a) reduce the size of the partition on the dodgy HARD drive less than 120 GB and then clone the dodgy HDD on the new SSD, so try and difficulty of installing Windows using the Dell recovery tools? (He had used<120GB of="" the="" old="">

    (b) clone just the recovery Partitions, and then copy the relevant files on?

    (c) try to make a Vista DVD and somehow get the product key of Windows disable the suspicious HDD (it doesn't seem to be a Windows product key sticker on the laptop, the Toshiba & IBM unlike I had sitting next to me).

    (d) something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.  First thing I will once I have it get up and running is to create the recovery media that he did not!

Option one could be quite bad if the performance of the system was initially quite bad. It depends on what has been installed on the machine. I recommend a clean installation.

Follow my Guide from reinstalling Windows / a Clean Install of Windows Vista:

    http://philipyip.WordPress.com/Dell-community-forums/

This will guide you through the clean install using downloadable Digital River Media (Microsoft online partner). It will tell you where to download the installation files and how to do an aswell USB bootable as the rest of the installation.

For product activation, there are instructions on the use of the activation program to backup and restore (step 2 and 11 b). I saved product activation OEM Dell Dell Windows Vista to 7 reinstallation DVD. If you run a utility finder key on the old installation, you will get a corresponding product key. It is not would be in line with the key on your COA. The guide explains system locked preinstallation and activation more in detail. An alternative to the product activation is also possible; You can use the product key on the laptops COST 25-digit which must be placed under the battery in the Inspiron 1545 to protect it from deletion. This will require automated activation of phone to a Center (11th step) Microsoft product activation so I prefer activation backup and restore program.

I am from the United Kingdom and do not like the fact that the form of relocation brackets is for US customers only. The situation has worsened for Windows 8, Microsoft has not provided downloadable media. Please add your voice to this idea from IdeaStorm Windows 8 media IdeaStorm resettlement so that users in the United Kingdom or elsewhere outside the United States can get media to reinstall via an online application form or download link. Unfortunately IdeaStorm requires connection separate from the rest of the Dell Community.

  • Adding 2nd hard drive for Inspiron 530

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 which has a Samsung 320 hard drive.  I would like to add a second hard drive to put photos, etc.  Green a Western Digital 2 TB 3.5 "SATA looks like a possibility.  However, images, like most of the internal drives I saw pictures, he has one open side showing the drive mechanism.  The Samsung already in the PC is covered.  The additional disc will not become covered with dust (my PC had a lot of cobwebs in it when I opened it to the top!)?  Any advice on which drive to choose and how to install it would also be appreciated.

    dellby

All computers must be inside the frame, cleaned all the dust on a regular basis.

I have two HD SATA and SSD installed in my Inspiron 530 mini tour and have never had a problem of "dust."

Keep the air intakes located on the façade behind the clean HD of any accumulation of dust, helps to cool the hard drives.

Instructions for the installation of a second hard drive physically in a 530 are here:

    FTP://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/Inspiron-530_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.PDF

Will need you a SATA data cable, there should be a spare power connector SATA inside the case and four 6-32 X 1/4, Phillips head screws to mount the drive.

Connect the SATA data cable to the SATA connector on the motherboard.

Hard drives Western Digital and Seagate are good, my preference is for Western Digital.

Also check the length of the manufacturer's warranty, plus the best guarantee.

Is there a downside to the use of sata III? It is slower than sata II drives?

There are zero and no., lll SATA will work at speed he's SATA.

SATA I, is the first generation clocked at 1.5 Gbps SATA.

SATA II interface, is a second generation running at 3.0 GB/s SATA.

SATA III interface, a third generation of interface SATA 6.0 GB/s turns. The bandwidth rate, which is supported by the interface is up to 600 MB/s.

SATA II specifications provide backward compatibility of function on SATA channels.

SATA III Specifications provide backward compatibility to run on SATA I and SATA II ports.

However, the maximum speed of the disk will be slower because of lower speed limits of the port.

  • New hard drive in Inspiron 5000e has failed, NTLDR

    HELLO community,

I have an Inspiron 5000e (2001) and to replace the old hard drive (IBM Travelmate 10 GB) against a new, a Seagate Ultra ATA (80 GB).

I partitioned the new drive HARD, C with Fat32 (30 GB), D with NTFS (47 GB).

Then I had to run Fdisk from a floppy, the computer could identify them.

On C, I had Windows ME (German version) a success, but the Grafic driver was missing, and I couldn't see D more.

When I tried to put Windows XP (English version) on D, an error message came during the installation process: "NTLDR is missing". Plant was shut down.  Y at - there anyprogram to put that right on the hard disk during the installation process?

Also after that, C not more also began.

What I will do, to bring at least Windows XP on a partition, it is able to securely access internet and normal working office?

    Thanks for any help,

Bought this computer from my wife for Christmas.  Apparently, Dell has combined the power of disk hard/light activity indicator / and the battery status light in a unique light on the front edge of the computer.  My concern is that the only light briefly when I plug into the power supply first, then it turns off and on again never.  Even when the hard drive is written or the bedside lamp lights to show activity.  Is this normal?  I am concerned that this is a way that I used to determine if things happen on my computer as it should.  If the light is not designed to show the disk activity hard when it occurs, what is it?
