Runtastic can access the heart rate monitor built on Apple Watch - possible other 3rd party apps, subject to the developers have taken advantage of this possibility (which is available).

When you use Runtastic, make sure that you start and stop the application Runtastic activity on your watch, and not on your iPhone. Otherwise, the heart rate information will not be saved.

    I understand you are trying to disable the updating in the background for some applications, but they just light up immediately as soon as you exit the application. I'd leave the app shows first:
