Can't choose Bridge CS6 hides folder on another drive/partition

Hello

I just installed Photoshop CS6 and noticed a no criticism, but nevertheless annoying problem in Bridge (platform: Win7 x 64):

When I try to move the folder cache (Menu: editing-> Preferences-> Cache-> location, and then pressing the 'Choose' button), the selection of the path that opens is actually incomplete dialog.

In other words, it shows all my records. In fact, it shows no partitions. It just default to the user usual directory (on partition C :), but not will not appear (and therefore: won't let me choose) any other partition.) To be more precise: the folder root tree shown is the 'Office' folder in my home directory of the user - and that's all there is.

Since there is no field were I could enter (type) the path directly, I'm basically stuck now having my cache on C:. That is not where I want to. (I don't have enough space here)

For comparison:

In Bridge CS5, the same dialog box works as expected: that is, when I scroll down, I can also see the other partitions and choose a path somewhere, say, drive F:

BTW: I also noticed this behavior even with the beta version of CS6, but was not concerned then because, well... it was just a beta, and I thought this somehting is also obvious that this would be fixed at the time the final version comes out... :-/

Is there another way to define the path to the cache?

Should I file a bug report?

Until someone asks: Yes, I uninstalled the beta version before you install the final PS CS6, and Yes, everything seems to work as it should.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Kind regards

Manual

P.S.: If necessary, I can provide screen captures of the dialog in question.

UPDATE: I just solved my problem - in a way that seems strange, but here...:

  1. It dawned on me ' if I can't choose anything outside my home directory of the user, perhaps I wrong Bridge by using another drive by putting a (aka shortcut) link it on my Windows desktop.
  2. I clicked on my desktop, created a new shortcut and chose the directory that I wanted to actually for the bridge cache (in my case: F:\caches\bridge_cs6)
  3. In the Bridge preferences, under Cache-> location dialog box, I hit the 'Choose' button again and chose the shortcut created earlier.
  4. And there, the path statement indeed seemed to search for the location on my F:\... by car.
  5. Now for the really strange part: after you closed and reopened Bridge (to see if it actually work and always be in the folder I want), I found that the opening of the path selector (i.e. the 'Choose' button) once again, it shows NOW EACH folder on EACH drive - just like he suddenly has (and always wants in CS5)

Conclusion:

My little hack 'shortened' seemed to have somehow "fixed" Bridge CS6 inability to go beyond the C: drive (and my home folder) to the file cache.

Strange... but I won't complain.

Thanks again, Curt, for your efforts. (Although they don't directly lead me to the solution, they made me think - and that's what counts.)

Kind regards

I want to move my full users folder to another drive or partition under Vista 64-bit.

I found these instructions to do with Windows 7 and confirm that they work very well on a Windows 7 computer I set up yesterday.
ROBOCOPY, RMDIR, MKLINK programs all exist in Vista and have all the command line switches such as specified in section of Windows 7.
I want to use junction points as described in the article, rather than messing around with search-and-replace in registry. The use of junction points is cleaner and easier to reverse if I ever need to move the Users back folder to its original location.

When you manage files in iCloud, from an iPad, I can move to the files from one folder to another, but not in the Preview file. Secondly, when I check the file Preview to iCloud from Mac content is so different when you look at an iPad. Why is the gap between the iPad and the Mac?

Try to go to iCloud.com to see if the elements are there and whether the device or the computer. That should indicate if the device or computer is not synchronizing. If the computer, try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop synchronization. Wait a few minutes, then recheck the timing. If the device, go to settings/iCloud and do the foregoing.

  • I can the AppData-roaming junction folder to another drive?

    Hello.

I have a boot drive for Win 7 (C drive) that contains the victory and apps. It is only 250 GB.
I also have a normal hard disk (I call it V unit) to which I moved "my music, documents, etc." C drive using the shell: UsersFilesFolder and using the location under Properties tab.
I'm a gamer and use steam. I installed Steam on my hard disk (disk V)so that she and it's games install instead of my C drive. Most of the games to cooperate.

    Here's my problem:

By experience, I know that a huge game like Empire Total War (Sega - The Creative Assembly) will not install a folder on my drive V next to the steam, but also on the C drive, less AppData/roaming!
My old PC, I know that the folder created by "The Creative Assembly" on my drive C under folder Roaming will move from a simple 2 MB to a gigantic 20 GB in one year, once I have start saving the game etc!

I did some research moving of the roaming folder and also make a junction. I also watched in travel "the creative assembly" folder or to a junction for that.

The two methods has supporters and opponents. There are opportunities for instabilities etc. There is also a chance that everything will work properly.

    What do you recommend?
If there is a method that you recommend, how do you propose that I go about it? I need some measures to ensure that it works correctly.
If I create a junction, it will show as a 'shortcut' on my C drive? Will be the folder on drive C, and then grow in size as well as the 'main' folder I have logged in my V reader?

    Thank you.

  • Can save us from the Windows updates to another drive to increase disk space

Hi I want to ask I can save the update of Windows to another example of player: as d ' drive, or an external hard drive, because the update are by default save to my c drive. And my c disk space becomes low.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your query details.

I also appreciate that fact that you want to save the updates of Windows on another drive or location in order to increase the free space in C; drive.

Save updates of Windows on another drive location is not recommended because it can cause corruption in the system files which can lead to some unstable operating system. It can also affect Windows start the process.

Updates are automatically downloaded into the subfolder "C:\WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download".

If you want to increase the disk space, I suggest you run Disk Cleanup and check if it helps.

    Please see this link:
    Delete files using disk cleanup
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=Windows-7

It removes temporary files, empty the "Recycle Bin", and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

Note: When running Disk Cleanup on the disk hard if bad data files are found, all these data could be lost.

I also recommend move your data files stored on drive C: to another drive to increase disk space.

  • Can not copy / paste from one folder to another.

Just recently, I can't copy and paste a word document to a different folder, and my office is locked and can not move icons. I've unlocked settings, also tried to reconstruct the dates. Running advanced system of care. Creates a new user. Nothing works. My computer as most of the people is a tool and not used to play games, it's time to implement a different system, that is to say Windows 7 or wait 8. I honestly thought that XP Pro has been very stable and I have all the important issues in over 5 years, and in this case. This is the result of an update?

    Hello

1 did you change your computer, after which the issue started?
    2. the issue of copy paste only occurs with Microsoft Word?

Windows XP is still very stable and reliable. If you want to upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8, you can do it. It's a good idea to upgrade your operating system to get used to a new User Interface that would give you a new experience altogether.

Follow these steps and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

Test the issue in safe mode.

    Step 2:

If the problem does not occur in safe mode, I suspect that there is a conflict of software of third party causing the problem to occur. I suggest that you start your computer in a clean boot State in order to eliminate conflicts of third party software.

  • Win7: How can I move user folder to another drive

(with all its tentacles of registry supported)

Related to this issue but a little different (using Win7 RC)
I would like to move the folders from the user for all members of the family to E:\
    What is the best way?
When I cut and paste, I am warned a bunch of system folders. In addition, I don't see the LOCATION tab when I click on properties.

When you create a clean installation, using the combination of a system SSD drive and a conventional disc, such as a data reader, there is a way to 'move' the users folder (normally, C:\Users) and the hidden ProgramData folder (normally C:\ProgramData) for the conventional disc, or the data reader, using an answer file, or an unattend.xml file for an unattended Setup, as mentioned above.

For a person making a unique, one-time Setup, trying to figure out how to create an answer for fully automatic, just installation file to accomplish this small one, is average, far too much trouble.  It is also not necessary.

It is possible, during an installation of conventional and interactive disc installation or USB thumbdrive, to enter what we call, 'Mode of Audit', until the computer is called or a created user name and perform the necessary reallocation.

(1.) a conventional facility.  If you are using an SSD, at the point the installation process where you are asked where you want to install Windows, you must use disk Options to delete all partitions on the SSD drive, before you select the SSD drive as a target.  Do not manually partition or format the drive before installation.  Windows 7 will do and must do, because Windows needs to align the logical format with the characteristics of the physical drive, and, also, Windows wants a small system partition for its own purposes.

2.) when installation stops, waiting for you to give a user name and a computer name, the computer are not!  Press Ctrl + Shift + F3, and the computer will restart in... (wait for it!) "Audit mode '!  Basically, Windows create a disposable administrator account and log in, as this disposable administrator.  Hurt you, with regard to this temporary user survive complete the installation, but the computer works normally, and you can install the drivers and software.  Every time that the computer starts in Audit mode (you are allowed to restart), a version of Sysprep.exe GUI will pop up, offering to restart the computer in OOBE (out of box experience).  OOBE is where you were a moment before - that is to say, where you create a username and computer name and installation is complete.  Do not restart in OOBE, until you are ready to complete the installation.

3.) he should know what drive letter (or the location of the folder) will be assigned to your disk Datadrive.  So, it's time, in audit mode, to understand this.  If you need to partition or format the datadrive, do so now.  On the Start Menu, right click on "Computer" and select Manage from the context menu, go to the computer management console.  In the management console of the computer, storage/disk management, you will find tools to change drive letters, partition, etc.

4.) you need only a minimal answer file.  It is an xml (text file) file created in Windows System Image Manager application.  You can call what you want.  I would say: folders.xml.  Here are the contents of a folders.xml file, which is re - locate users and ProgramData to D:\

                    d:\Users
                    d:\ProgramData

I'm going to imagine a scenario where you make this file on another computer, and transfer to the computer when the installation is done using a USB key, which, when it is connected to the computer in Audit Mode, is attributed to the extra drive letter:

You could probably just copy the text above into Notepad and save it as a text file with the .xml extension and be good to go, as long as you wanted to use d:\Users and d:\ProgramData as your Datadrive locations.  (I used this answer file, with success; I do not guarantee that it will work for others.)

    5. to use the folders.xml, located in the root directory of your flash drive, plugged and visible under U:\ form, you must open a command prompt, access c:\windows\system32\sysprep and give this command:

    Sysprep.exe /audit /reboot /unattend:U:\folders.xml

This will cause the reboot of the computer, but you will end up right back in Audit Mode.  As long as you're still in Audit Mode, re-location of these dossiers is not complete, because the temporary administrator useraccount still has his stuff in C:\Users and there are still a few active databases in C:\ProgramData.

6.) now, you need to say goodbye in Audit Mode.  Remember that a graphical interface for the use of Sysprep to initialize the OOBE appears whenever you re - boot into Audit Mode.  "So after restart you 5.) you will have your chance to run it.  (If it comes to your personal computer, do check the box "Generalize" in the GUI of Sysprep).

7.) finishing your Windows installation, create a permanent user name and giving the computer a name, etc.  When you're finally running, go get to C:\  C:\Users should have disappeared.  C:\ProgramData is probably still there, but it is normally hidden, so you won't know, until you go to Folder Options and check Show hidden files and folders.  D:\Users and D:\ProgramData (hidden) must also exist.

8.), I like the idea of using junctions to intercept any program crazy enough to hardcode to c:\users or c:\programdata you will need to delete or move C:\ProgramData, before creating a junction to C:\ProgramData pointing to D:\ProgramData.  The command line tool, mklink, is useful here.  Open a command prompt, and then type mklink /? to get instructions.  If you want a right click GUI tool, you can check:http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html

After you create junctions, I think you could use regedit to edit the ProfileList key to the locations of origin C:\.  Folders.XML will have changed the Folderlist key, so that everything points to D:\ instead of %systemdrive%\ or C:\   I'm not sure what would be the point, but you couldn't.

  • How can I move images in 1 folder to another?

transferred all my photos in windows 8 and they all ended up in 1 folder, I created empty folders to move and organize photos.  How can I do this?

Right-click on the copy of the photo and then goto where you want to paste, or highlight all pics have empty folder, and then drag them to the empty folder

  • Can I keep the CS6 programs on an external drive for future use?

The hard drive of my MacBook Pro is almost full. I do not use most of the CS6 programs I have. I want to move them to an external drive. (I think they can be stored there already using Time Machine). Can I do this and uninstall them to free up space? I just want to later, in case I need it.

Adobe Applications cannot be installed on an external drive.

    Kind regards
