  I'm working on a book project online which takes a .pdf file, converts each page in JPEG format and stores them in a single folder. I created a flash file that the user is directed to when loading the .pdf that detects via a query string, the location of the folder and the total number of pages. This, as you guessed it probibly, is the book online, which has all the bells and whistles of animation tour page, a function of page goto etc...
  
  My problem is the following:
  I need the app to have a word search function. I know that ideally the .pdf was converted to text, but I couldn't because the test page to images was nowhere near perfect on the tests that I ran.
  
  Is there an OCR style approach I could use in flash? I created JAVA applets that have accomplished this task before, but never in a .swf.
  
  One option is to install an OCR program on the server that is running dynamically after the download of .pdfs and store the text in a database, however, at best (I guess), this will allow only the user to be redirected to the page and not the line, let alone creating a transulcent highlight, for example, on the top of the text.
  
  I do not expect an answer, but any comments would be geatly appreciated.

  Sorry I can't provide references, its been a while that I played with flashpaper...

  With flashpaper (which is a printer driver), you can print to flashpaper or pdf format. Both formats retain all the formatting... which is what you need. And there's an API exposed during handling and there built etc text search. So, you could just load in the SWF in flashpaper instead of static images... But my suggestion is just a conceptual approach. That's what I would inquire if I tried to do something like what you describe. It cannot eventually be adapted... I just can't think of anything.

  What region is your stage of? If nothing else than the United Kingdom (I think), this feature was removed for unknown reasons. I am native English living in Germany and I'd love this feature, but for some reason any Google/Motorola/O2 or the one who ruled, she wanted not here.

  I use Windows Vista 64 bit with Office 2007. Can you use speech recognition in Vista to take an audio file (WAV, for example) as input and then convert to text in Word 2007? If this is not the case, can you please specify alternatives?

  You can track the changes made to the file which are made in MS Word application after have exported them PDF.

  However there is no way to identify if the text in Word format of the file being converted with OCR.

  Copy-paste might not include the shaped. A regular import using square is the best way.

  The rectangles around the hyperlinks are just to indicate that they are links - they do not print, but they appear in your PDF.

  You can delete them by double clicking on the hyperlink in the hyperlinks Panel and select "Rectangle Invisible" as the type.

  In general, Word formatting of hyperlinks - blue text, underline - with a character Style. If you want to remove or change the formatting, all you have to do is to change the character style. My experience, however, is that you need to check all the hyperlinks because no reason apparent, sometimes they appear in the document without the character style.

  I run on Windows 7 64 bit. I have the most updated version of Firefox. I run Adblock Plus, NoScript, and Greasemonkey as addons. Note that disabling of all persons does not solve the problem: only signature of my Google account.
