Database as a Web Services provider?

Hello!

Could you please forgive me my silly question but...

My client has bought and use of Oracle 10 g RDBMS.

The customer now wants the database accessible by web service clients.

The client thinks that this can be done with already purchased RDBMS (without Oracle Application Server). The Oracle client her cites: "database as a provider of Web Services: database operations and recovery of the data are carried out through mechanisms of Web Services" (http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/webservices/database.html).

However, in my opinion honest, the customer MUST install a web server. If the customer is especially insterested in the Oracle solutions, then there (in addition to already purchased RDBMS) buy WebLogic or Oracle Application Server.

Who is right?

Sincerely yours.
Michail

Michail,

DB 10 g, you are right - the solution is to use the Services Web of PL/SQL to which OracleAS/OC4J server is essential.

For DB 11 g, you and your client have reason. In addition to the foregoing as 10 g, there is a new feature in 11 g called Native XML DB Web within the DB Services, which does not have any Web server or ACE. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28369/xdb_web_services.htm

Yogesh

  • Best practices for connecting to a database from a Web service

    I develop Web services that need to connect to an Oracle database. Currently, I connect to the database using jdbc as this class:

    con = DriverManager.getConnection (connectURL, "HR_DATA_READERS", "xxxxx").

    I do not like this approach because it hardcodes the connection string and account information. One of our colleagues has suggested that we use the properties file, but this leaves the user name and password in full view. Given that we can define jdbc dataources on the server of the SOA and the server offers all the nice features like pooled connection etc, is there a way to connect to the database using the data source defined the SOA rather than defining a connection server jdbc in the Web service itself? Is the best way to do it or is there still a way paste?

    Thank you

    Hi, Alix,.

    If you are JEE compatible environment. i.e. WLS 12 c, you can use resource injection approach, instead of manually coding the above proposed DS research.

    More information on injected resources and you will find here - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19226-01/820-7627/6nisfjmbl/index.html

    "For example, you can use this tutorial - Servlet JDBC DataSource resource Injection" Open tutorials

    Take a look at sections 5.3 and 5.4 only, which is what the code should look like and how to configure resource in the web.xml file.

    And always use finally to try to close the db connection, otherwise in the case of exceptions, as it is not returned to the pool and at some point he's going to get exhausted.

    Hope this helps,

    Could someone give me some advice?

    I think it must be different, then from the analyses of the documents or sites Web.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Heiko,

    What is the format of data that you get from the web service?

    I'm not aware of frank manner (out of the box) to obtain Web service data in the ERMS. You have two options:

    ~ Add an intermediate step, like get Web service data in a database or store the answer in the form of XML file, then pointing to your to that source intermediate certification authorities.

    ~ Write java code using the API short to get the web service data and write this in a record store.

  • [COMICS] BlackBerry Web services - create e-mail profiles

    Hello world

    The web service provides a method to create profiles of e-mail for users. However, it is not possible to create a profile of electronic mail user which replaces the default values for the name of the account, email address, username and domain.

    The CreateUserEmailProfilesRequest of Web Services for the Administration of the BlackBerry Business Gets a list of the new e-mail profiles to create such specified by NewUserEmailProfile. The NewUserEmailProfile contains the user settings, the e-mail profile and the specific settings of the user account name, e-mail address, user name and domain. If these user specific settings are specified, they have no effect because there is no parameter to set the parameter "Placeholders Microsoft Active Directory" which is available at the BOTTOM. Without this parameter, the user by email always default profile values in Active Directory instead of using the parameters in the query.

  • Problem of DH handshake with the web service using ColdFusion 7 and 8 after java update 8

    ColdFusion 7 and 8 are provided with a variant of JRE1.6.

    I have a script that has consumed a web service for years with success.  Last week, the web service provider updated their version of Apache and Java on the server java 1.8 (or java-8).

    I could no longer consume the web service once the web service provider updated to Apache and Java and would be the following error DH keypair every time that I try to consume the service:

    I asked the service provider web, why it would stop working and how we can solve this problem.  They suggested that upgrade to the latest version of Java on my server running ColdFusion.  I did some research and found the problem to be with the amount of memory allocated to the variable containing the encryption key.

    The big problem is when I tried to update java on this particular server (Windows Server 2003), the installation has returned a messaged stating that he could not run on the older operating system and I need to update my OS to install java.

    Does anyone have a workaround in ColdFusion 7 or 8 that you can establish the DH handshake using Java 1.6 on your local server while consuming a web service on a server using Java 1.8?

    Hi, frank000000,

    I know that we had a serious problem with any Java 7 after update 25.  They are off a lot of network permissions and other things, for safety, that used to be available in versions prior to the update 25.  But it's while we were in CF Server 9.

    Since we switched to CF Server 10 (making sure that we got the CF Installer provided with Java 8), we had very few issues related to Java.

    It seems strange to me that the upgrade to 1.8 host while your server is 1.6 would cause problems.  It could very well be something else.  I would like to ask the host for documentation describing exactly how/why their 1.8 may cause interference with your 1.6.

    HTH,

  • Consume the RESTful web service - by passing the values of URL parameters

    Hello

    I'm working on a RESTful web service call. It works fine if I encode a URL in the format below (it is not the actual URL, just for your information):

    http://ws.webserviceproducer.com/KEYVALUE/FUNCTIONVALUE/COUNTRY/CP/champs

    where KEYVALUE is required by the Web service provider text

    FUNCTIONVALUE is again fixed and determines what the result is returned in the format

    COUNTRY is the code of the country, e.g. UK, so would need to be replaced by a variable

    Postcode is the postcode for example PO14 2JN or postal code and must be replaced by a variable

    field text is again fixed and is used to determine the output format.

    My question is simple how can I replace the two fields, COUNTRY and POSTAL code with variables of the elements of the apex.

    I tried using the headers HTTP REST and the REST of the settings entry but without any luck so far. I tried substitution of variables directly in the URL also without success.

    Thank you

    Have you tried this APEX_WEB_SERVICE ?

  • Advertise the package as a web service

    Hi all
    I used the version of JDeveloper: Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.5.0

    I had to publish a package of database as a web service.

    so I created a connection to the database in JDeveloper and then sailed to the packages and right clicked on the packaging and you click on publish it as a web service.
    then deployed to weblogic server code, created the data source required in the weblogic with a size 15 connection.

    It went well for a few days, and then I started to receive an error indicating that the connection pool is exhausted and that he cannot get a new connection of it.
    see that the web service is still in test phase and there is not a lot of active users at the same time (less), it was weird that this happens.

    After inspecting the code generated by JDeveloper, find that the code closes the connection only if there was no error in the call to the database.
    something like
            try{
                __onnScopeMethod=__dataSource.getConnection();
                java.lang.String __jRt_3=xparam;
                oracle.xdb.XMLType __jRt_2=null;
                __jRt_2=null;
                if(__jRt_3!=null){
                    __jRt_2=oracle.xdb.XMLType.createXML(__onnScopeMethod,__jRt_3);
                }
                __jRt_0=super._callDatabaseMethod(__jRt_2,__onnScopeMethod);

                if(__jRt_0==null){
                    __jRt_0_x=null;
                } else {
                    long __stringLen=__jRt_0.length();
                    if(__stringLen>Integer.MAX_VALUE){
                        throw new java.sql.SQLException("CLOB too large: "+__stringLen);
                    } else {
                        __jRt_0_x=__jRt_0.getSubString(1L,(int)__stringLen);
                    }
                }
                __onnScopeMethod.close();

            } catch(java.sql.SQLException except){
                except.printStackTrace();
                throw new java.rmi.RemoteException(except.getClass().getName()+": "+
                                                   except.getMessage());
            }
    which translates the leakage of resources.

    I have modified the code and deployed.

    what I want to ask is: is this the correct behavior? or is this an error in the earlier version of jdeveloper?

    After you deploy the modified code, I wasn't the same problem again, so should I file a bug report or what?

    This is the final version of the code after change:

  • Using the web services via VBScript

    Hello

    I'm very big thing back to the VMware infrastructure.

    (1) in my application, I want to write a VBScript (preferebly) that can consume web services provided by ESX to clone the exsisting images and do some basic operations on, snapshot etc. as powern. Is this feasible?

    (2) according to my understanding, the services web of ESX and vSphere services are the same. Am I wrong?

    (3) services of vSphere web must vSphere is available in fact?

    Please forgive me if any of the issues makes no sense. Kindly guide me further.

    Hi Chaitanya,

    vSphere API provides a way to interface with VMware infrastructure, and these are exposed as services web servers ESX and virtual Center.

    (1) vSphere Web Services SDK facilitates the development of client applications that target the vSphere API. It allows to build SOAP-based applications to control the ESX Servers / vCenter servers and virtual machines running on them.

    You can write client applications in Java or c#. vSphere web services SDK includes files WSDL, examples of code in Java and c#, various libraries and all the necessary components required to work with the vSphere API.

    You can also use vSphere SDK for Perl which provides a script Perl to easy-to-use interface to the vSphere API. SDK comes with utilities and documentation for the creation of vSphere management applications

    (2) are you reason ESX web services are actually vSphere web services. vSphere is bascially the name given for the latest versions of 4.0. Earlier he was VI SDK 2.5/2.0 and now it's vSphere web services SDK.

    (3) vSphere web services are exposed in the ESX servers, so ultimately you need vSphere infrastructure on your side. What is it ask you?

    I hope this information helps!

  • Deploy a web service on an old database proxy

    I'm studying on different approaches to call an external web service of PL/SQL and I came across this document pretty old how-to:

    Call a Web Service from the database

    The document explains how to create a proxy web service in Java with JDeveloper and how to deploy it in a database.

    The sample service is relatively simple. The service that I have to call exposes several methods that returns and requires complex objects as parameters, but I found more tips in the next song in the Oracle documentation:

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B19306_01/Java.102/b14187/chsix.htm#BABBEAJI

    So I downloaded and installed the latest JDeveloper and I get a service proxy web work at a glance. When I tried to deploy to my old database (Oracle 10.0.2.5 running Java 1.4) I've got the errors listed in the attached paper (sorry for the names of class in Italian).

    As indicated in the last line, it seems that I have some kind of compatibility issue between the version of Java that I used to generate the proxy and that which is available on my server. If, as suggested, change the JDK 1.7 to 1.4 version, I get an error saying something like "you have used data annotation, but this feature is available from Java 1.5".

    Is there a way to force JDeveloper to generate a web service proxy ' 1.4 friendly '?

    With the provided link, I was able to get all the missing pieces of the software.

    Now I just need to convince our DBA to try this approach

    However, it is a different story

  • best way to get the web service XML JSON etc legacy database

    We have a bunch of old scientific databases for which we would like to expose data via an XML web service.  International XML schemas have been developed in the standards for the sharing of these data we need to provide the data in.  These patterns have very different data of our legacy data structures.  We want to leave our databases within the same structures but to expose the data in them in the XML schemas.

    Building SQL indications XMLFOREST SQL etc. that returns the XML doesn't seem very practical that the structures are very different and the SQL must be very very complex and would be very tedious to make and maintain.  Is there another way to make in the database?  There are tools outside the database such as who can help in that we used in the past and could be used again - but I had much rather that on the database if possible.

    Building SQL indications XMLFOREST SQL etc. that returns the XML doesn't seem very practical that the structures are very different and the SQL must be very very complex and would be very tedious to make and maintain.

    Using SQL/XML is the most flexible way to generate XML from relational data, as you have full control over what you do.

    If the target XML structure is complex, any method will be complex to implement completely in the database anyway.

    There is no tool integrated with Oracle that would take an XML schema and make the mapping with relational data.

    What you can do is a third-party tool allows to design a XSLT stylesheet that would take care of transforming an XML format canonical (easily created from the database of a query) in the target XML instance.

    In this way the complexity lies in the style sheet, and the real transformation could be made within the database.

    Hi MEMU,.

    I have it. And he has deployed in the built-in container. It works very well. Note that I did the following.

    (1) change the project properties,

    In the libraries and Classpath, I need to add in Classpath entries associated Jena libraries, slf4j, sdordfnosqlclient.jar, kvclient.jar etc.

    (2) use the xercesImpl - 2.9.1.jar instead of xercesImpl - 2.10.0.  Jdev 12 c appears to use an older version of xerces as bundles of Jena.

    Once done the configurations above, I can execute your project without changing Java code.

    Here is the result:

  • Native Web Services database: XMLTYPE parameter in PL/SQL with XMLSCHEMA?

    Hello

    I would like to build a function with a parameter of XMLTYPE is the schema of the base, something like this:

    CREATE FUNCTION xy (p_xml XMLTYPE XMLSCHEMA 'http://myschema.com')...

    For now, I do the following code inside:

    l_xml: = p_xml.createSchemaBasedXML ('http://myschema.com');
    l_xml.schemaValidate ();

    / * validate XML with XSD code * /.
    l_nbr: = l_xml.isschemavalidated ();

    Why I want to put the schema directly in the statement is I want to use this function as a Web Service native Oracle. The web service does not know that the structure of the xml parameter because the schema is not known in the statement.

    Thank you and best regards,
    Andreas

    At the present time there is no way for the WSDL generated by the Native Web Services database to incorpirate this information. The problem is that there is no way to associate an XML schema to a variable value, parameter or return of PL/SQL. It should be the work of the XML DB and the PL/SQL to achieve group. It will consider a request for improvement.

    Workarounds only that I can think of would be to have a separate WSDL (made by hand) for this service. Of course, this will have to be to some other URL as expected, so this may not be viable, or to provide your own get (extended) WSDL service as part of the package, which adds the schema information in the WSDL. The Web Service consumer then you have to get the base/orawsv/parcel WSDL? WSDL, then get the WSDL extended by callling the appropriate method on the packaging...
