Generation of PDF files leave marked TXTs

Hello

I have some TXT files thousands, who use a special syntax (a bit like Markdown text, but with hyperlinks and other things). I created a program that converts to a site Web HTML + CSS and it works very well for the online consultation. But I will generate a single PDF file of all of these TXTs marked for consultation offline. Now, from what I have gathered on the Internet, a (maybe the best) solution would be:

1 laTeX

but the LaTeX syntax is quite complicated, so I wonder if Adobe provides a kind of facilities for my case. An alternative: I thought:

2 convert my website HTML + CSS to PDF with Acrobat Pro

but I don't know if the result will look good and if hyperlinks will be preserved. Another solution, which does not have Acrobat Pro:

3 control InDesign using a script to generate PDF

but the problem is that these TXT files have a length variable (between 1 to 5 pages), and InDesign would force me to detect when a new page is needed.

In summary, which of the 3 methods above would you recommend me?

Thank you for your response. I'm done using the method you recommended.

So, I changed the CSS it looks a little more than a print, I set up my Web site to a local address using "Apache HTTP Server", and then I used Acrobat Pro to convert my site in PDF format. In this way no Internet connection is involved.

I tried the instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them

I checked through all my extensions and you do not have open a PDF (I have uBlock, NoScript and Zotero).
    I completely uninstalled Adobe Reader.
I checked that in preferences/Applications, PDF is set to "Preview in Firefox.
I did as I went through: config and change all settings with 'pdf' on their return to their default values
But none of these things work.

Is there anything else I can try to get this working?

I think the problem I had was that some of the PDF files is served by Web sites with a "header" (I don't really know what that means) called "Content-Disposition: attachment", and when this happens, Firefox refuses to load them into the integrated PDF Viewer. (I don't know why Web sites this.)

It is very helpful, especially because Firefox gives no indication as to what is happening (why the user preference for a PDF file is not respected). I just thought that the PDF Viewer was broken and spent hours trying to fix it.

If anyone runs into this problem, there is an extension that fixes it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/inlinedisposition/

There is a Bugzilla bug open about it: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=773942

As far as I can see, it would be trivial reflect changes the extension above in Firefox. In the bug of no claim that it would be a bad thing to do for safety reasons. But Firefox should at least present the user the ability to open the PDF file in the integrated Viewer or even more at least have explanations on why the PDF is not currently open in the Viewer, for example "this PDF file was marked for download, so for safety reasons it has not been opened in the integrated Viewer. Who would save people like me, who don't know the HTTP headers that are complicated, just think that Firefox is broken.

  • When I insert the mark of the web, preview IE6 can not download files or view pdf files

When I insert the mark of the web and get a glimpse of my pages in IE6, I can't download files from the links or view pdf files in the browser (some links are to pdf files). In mozilla, it works perfectly. Hmmm... What happens when I run the application? (must I put the brand on the web?, IE users will have problems?)

Mark the web must only be used on your local files, if you have any active content in pages, for example, if you use a menu javascript.  It's only for IE browsers when you test locally, is not necessary at all with Firefox.  (as you've probably discovered).

You don't need to insert it on the page when you go live with the site. However, you can leave it in the code, there is no really no difference for download of the page, or the files or images etc.,.

    Hi Stephen39,

Do you have any 3rd party plugin installed for Adobe Reader? If not, close all instances of Adobe Reader running and delete the entire folder to: C:\program Adobe [version] \Reader\plug_ins.

Now go to control panel > programs and features. Locate the entry for Adobe Reader X and choose to repair the installation.

If you do not have a 3rd party plugin installed, try to uninstall them and see if the problem is related to the same. If it works, let me know what plugins have been the origin of the problem so that I can have a look.

If all goes well, this should fix things.

    Thank you

    Nicos

txt is not a format. Really. It's just text, and so there is no right way to do it. I guess you need to do is to put in Word and from there, you can choose the font, size, page margins, and the difficulty of the layout; then, you can create a PDF file. Despite this, expect the changes to line break.

    Hello.

This isn't a question of InDesign: you ask Acrobat to display 'boxes', so he does.

In Acrobat, go to Preferences: display: Show ArtBox, TrimBox, etc. (uncheck the box).

Or, open the output preview window, you will find the same box in the preferences (I suppose that you activate it from there).

But keep in mind that in any case the red line does not exist and cannot be printed, it is simply a programme of assistance.

  • I leave acrobat from adobe, how can I read my PDF files now?

I can't even open my PDF files without dialog telling me that I need to subscribe first. I think it's pretty ugly, I can't access any PDF on my computer now because once I got adobe acrobat and don't want more. I need help.

    Hi maryh71916491,

I would like to know exactly which version of the software installed on your system. If you use Acrobat Reader (for viewing PDF free versoion) & trying to make changes with in the Document, and then you will receive this message because PDF files can be edited in Acrobat Pro. So, make sure that you open the file in the appropriate program.

If you want to just display the pdf file, you can open it in Adobe Reader, you can use this link to download the latest Adobe Reader DC:- Adobe Acrobat Reader DC install for all versions

Also, you can share the screenshot of the message you are getting.

    Kind regards

  • Need to reduce the size of the PDF file BUT leave the image alone

    Hello

I noticed that PDF files that are edited a lot tend to accumulate bad objects. I would like to clean my files, but the last time I tried the command "reduce the size of the file. I noticed that in addition to removing the invalid objects (good idea), the image has been compressed (bad idea). It is the resolution of my images is very important, and I don't mind paying the price of having a larger file.

Y at - it sort of selectively decide what gets 'cleaned' and what is left alone?

  • PDF files convert themselfes PSE-files!

Need help! Suddenly, all my PDF files convert themselfes PSE-files! PDF files sent as attachments in emails increase in PSE-files and is of no use to me. And worse: all my old files PDF saved on my computer has been changed in PES-files. All the icons for PDF files on my desktop have a blue mark with 'PSE' in them instead of the red symbol of PDF. And it is impossible to suddenly to open that PDF files that they have been spared as. Open it as illegible PSE documents.

I don't really know what to do about this, so I need HELP!

    Leif Wallquist

Yes, something has changed. WINDOWS has changed. The files have not changed, because it's nothing to do with the file.

It works like this: there's an association 'default' for a file type. Don't worry the jargon. What this means is that for each file type (DOC, TXT, JPG, PDF, PES...) Windows has an app (program) to run. For each file type, is also an icon for this application.

So, if the default link for the PDF files is Adobe Reader, and then, when you double-click a PDF file, it opens Adobe Reader. And the icon comes from Adobe Reader.

But, if the default association for PDF Photoshop Elements files, when you double-click a PDF file, it opens Photoshop Elements. And the icon comes from Photoshop Elements. This doesn't mean that they are files PES!

When you change the association it affects all files, BUT the files do not change.

As I said, you can probably fix this in the preferences of the Adobe Reader software. You can also sometimes fix in Windows, with the right-click - Open with - Adobe Reader. You have an option "always use this program"? Try it.

  • Layout in Arabic, Chinese and Russian. Export text from a PDF file

I am exhibitor of long documents in Arabic, Chinese and Russian. The text was provided in PDF format when I copy and paste this in Indesign, it happens like question marks, boxes and other characters having nothing to do with the text I'm trying to layout.  I put the cast on the Arabic Myriad and Arabic dictionary still nothing that resembles Arabic or any other language. Same thing with the Chinese and Russian. Any suggestions on how to get the text from the PDF file where is the language. Appreciate help with this.  Thank you.

    Thanks for the caption, Ellis

Thus, KK: you're in for a world of pain. The intials "WP" at the beginning of these policies means that the text is out of WordPerfect. Make presentations multilingual in WP, it was annoying, but possible. It was developed in the pre-Unicode world where every single method of complex script layout was a dirty hack. If you like dirty nerdy details, I can tell you how it worked, but that it is sufficient to say that attempt to harvest the non-latine-script text of: WP and it reuse for use in InDesign is just pure pain. WordPerfect-specific code pages were never really supported anywhere outside WP.

That being said, I have a script around laying somewhere for the conversion of the WP-Cyrillic in Unicode. (In fact, I think it does Windows CP 1251, but that works as well.) But this is only one of the forty-five languages? And the Chinese has been pixelated? And PDF files were originally generated by Distiller 3? If you have no choice, it is time to leave. If you do not have the choice, I really hope that you charge hourly. My experience in this area (very large) is that it will cost three to five times more to extract the text as it would for a professional translation generate a new key of the text, and and then to have a second professional translation review text rekeyed looking for typos.

Russian OCR is darn good these days, but Chinese OCR is random. I've never seen good Arabic OCR - doesn't mean it's not out there, but I couldn't help you find it.  But the chances that all 45 languages available reliable OCR, and the result of said OCRing will not have to be reviewed by someone who knows the language, are virtually nil.
