Hi, a friend of mine's laptop in me to take a look because he wasn't starting. He was going straight to boot from the network map, so a little thought that it's a dead hard drive. Then, I checked the BIOS and as expected not detected HARD drive. Removed hard drive and reinstall, same problem. Then I tried another working SATA drive I've saved, not detected in the BIOS. I then tried the hard drive of my HP Elitebook 6930p for laptop, yet undetected work.

Someone at - he fell on this issue before, it looks like a question of Council?

    Thank you

    Hi Vincent

When you set the BIOS to default settings is the problem persists? Another SATA drive recognized, or not?

It is not easy to say what the problem is, but maybe is the faulty disk controller.

  • Pavilion a6655f: hard drive or power supply problem?

A few days ago, I was trying to low loading part of the steam.  My download speed is 30 kbs, obviously not good.

I did some basic checks, malware, viruses, etc., but did not find any problem.  I did a diagnostic check and got a BIOHD-8 error code, which indicates a hard drive problem.  I decided to try to reset the computer back to the factory setting before changing the hard drive and once that I made and updated windows Vista for several hours, I restarted the diagnosis and he came clean.  Then I updated my software, including steam and a few games.  Downloads were fast and had no problems.  Later that night the computer started to shut down randomly, and I was unable to run any games.  Thinking it's maybe a power supply problem, I have replaced my graphics card with an elder who needs less energy.  I am able to run without any problems so far.  So, I'm looking for help in identifying my problem.  HDD problem, power supply, something else?  Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hard to say without proper trials.

You can use a hardware monitor HW Monitor to monitor tensions it is: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
But there is no software that can test a power supply.

You can get a tester of hardware like this too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16899887005

But there is really no of it will predict fails if the power supply, if you overloaded it, if its duration in time high, or if the power supply is a device of poor quality that can be subject to failure.

You can also check that your power cable is comfortably installed on the computer and not frayed.  Try a different wall jack where there are fluctuations in power.

I replaced the hard drive on Dell Dimension 8300. Install windows XP disc that came with the computer and Microsoft, s aid. When I start the computer, I get a full screen says "a SATA primary drive 0 not found.» Secondary drive 0 not found. Secondary drive 1 not found. THE ATTENTION! Operating system installed active mode. Available memory limited to 256 MB.  Strike F1 to continue. F2 to run the Setup utility. • "Delayed write failed" message keeps appearing to external hard drive (WD passport) and problems with suggest fix kb908673 (register edit).

    I had problems with my WD usb hard drive, where a "delayed write failed" message keeps appearing when the transfer of files to or from it. Among the fixes suggested on the WD support site is a link to kb908673, and this seems to sum up my problem. This fix is included in sp3, I believe, however, the fix indicates that a manual registry editing needs to be done;

"After you install this hotfix, the following registry subkey is automatically added and configured:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USB\EnSoftRetry

The registry key is configured with a DWORD value of 1. This value allows the Soft-Retry code path that is used in this hotfix.

"If you install a later version of the patch (a patch that contains later versions of Usbport.sys and Usbehci.sys), including Windows XP SP3, this registry value not be automatically added and configured. The registry value must be manually added and configured as described above to activate the Soft-Retry code path that is provided in this hotfix. »

I don't have this registry subkey and have no idea how to do to configure a key to have a DWORD value - I can create as a registry entry DWORD value in this key, but it must be given a name. Should I create a DWORD value called "EnSoftRetry" in the USB, or should I create a DWORD value in the EnSoftRetry key and, if so, what should it be called? Or am I completely misunderstanding something here?

  • You want to transfer my Win XP system on a new HARD drive. Are there problems with the copying of the system partition?

  • Frequent hard drive exchanges are causing problems for activation of Windows 7?

I am new to Windows 7.    I frequently switch (turn) the hard drive on my system - say every 6 weeks or more.  I use the same set of 2-3 disks and restore my system from a disk image every time when I exchange them.   Change the drive often happens to cause problems with the activation of Windows 7?   Thank you.

    Hi Lone Star,

Change the hard drive on systems not prompt swap you for activation but after that the HDD on another system if the operating system is validated activation would be asked that the physical address of machines would have changed.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVE860... ALL THIS IS THANKS TO YOU!

I remember you said something about Norton does not fully with upgrades. So I removed Norton System and replaced with Security Essentials and all worked fine for 4 weeks now underway.

Your help so greatly appreciated. Ironically, according to my friends, they have been seen ice problems and I told her about Norton and upgrade system I have. Seems that they had upgraded from Vista to XP. They have deleted Norton and installed another security system and all is well.

  • Hard drive on Windows 7 problem

Hi all, I hope it's in the section forum OK, if not, then sorry, please move.

I recently got a virus that I was prompted to format and reinstall OS... pain massive but had to do it. So I used my Microserver HP to save by removing two disks of my main pc (main pc and empty main car pc data disc) and inserted into the server. Because the server was full, I had to take on 2 hard drives from the server to other purposes of backup, we will simply call Server and server hdd2 hdd1. I did the backup but this is now a problem that I have never met.

Since I do not turn off the computer before replacing disks, the server sees now it of server hdd1 and 2 discs which are now back, as the main pc data and empty drives that I used in earlier and as a result, scandisk runs at each startup and removes EVERY FILE because he thinks that the readers are supposed to be pc readers which do not match.

I took out the disks, restarted, then inserted them so it detects as news readers, but it seems that somewhere on the server hdd1 and 2 hard drives, it is an impression left that indicates to the server that it is supposed to be given main pc and empty main pc and causes all these questions...

I dare not run scandisk once again, as I've already lost a segment of data, which are fortunately saved on an external. Help, please!

I think it's something that you need to investigate Microsoft seeking to http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US or with the Enterprise Server

  • Failure of hard drive in Dimension 8250, the maximum size and the type of replacement tips please

Dimension 8250 (Feb 2003), Windows XP Home SP2, 60 GB HDD, 512 MB of RAM, BIOS A01 - entirely standard

My hardrive suffers from weird deaf noise for a few months, but last week, it was a lot worse. Sometimes it starts up and is ok, othertimes it takes 1 hour to start and everything produces the deaf noise and is so slow, that it's unusable and other times simply clunks and not even start.

    Error messages received:

    (a) "drive Dell, monitoring system has detected that drive 0 on the primary Eide controller is out of normal, backup specifications and replace the HARD drive.

    (b) "error was detetcted on the HARD disk during the paging operation" (in the event viewer)

    (c) "driver detetcted a controller the HARD disk error" (in the event viewer)

    (d) when I run the Dell IDE Drive Diagnostics (F12), it says FAILED return Code 6

    Issues related to the:

    (1) am I correct that the drive needs replacement?

    (2) I want to just keep it very simple and buy a drive and adapt it, do not worry about BIOS or other upgrades. What I do pay attention to the size car that I buy, is there a maximum size that I can have with BIOS A01? Maybe thought to 120 GB? I just want to be able to adapt, without having to play around with BIOS upgrades so simply the easiest option, which is to buy, set up and reinstall the software. So, is there any limitation integrated with BIOS A01? The recovery CD is XP SP 1

    (3) am I correct that the PC supports up to 100 ATA if you need to make sure that I buy ATA 100 no ATA 133?

    (4) original drive is Hitachi, Seagate Barracuda would be better?

    (5) think active drive a 2 MB cache, a cache 8 MB drive would work ok without me having to pay anything and if yes is it useful on the 2 MB cache?

    Thanks for your time.

I want to add a larger hard drive, 500 GB + in my Dimension 4700. Currently, I have a 80 GB drive, which is the largest size, I can add and what type, 1.5 gb/s or 3.0 gb/s, it takes, and if I install a large drive I see a loss of performance? My OS is Windows XP sp2, I have 2.0 GB of memory also.

  • What HARD drive limit for 3000 N200 0769-BWG?

As stated, I would like to ask whether there is an upper limit on the size of the hard disk that I intend to get even more internal storage.

The current HARD disk is WD1600BEVS-08RST2, a HARD drive SATA must be SATA? Or same SATA2 fine?

Thanks in advance for your answers,

    Fred

Only limitation that I know is the thickness of the disk.
I think that up to 640 GB 9.5 mm. Western Digital
fact that a 750 9. 5 mm and others can also.
SATA 1 or 2 is fine.
