How can I "reverse culture" an image?

I am a newbie to Fireworks. I want to do something that seems really elementary and do not find a simple way to do it.

I have a (.jpg) image that is 306 pixels wide x 6 high. It consists of a colored background, a typography and rounded corners. I need to adjust the width, without scaling the typography or the corners. I just want to select a vertical slice of the image, 41 x 6, in the region where there is nothing else as the background, cut, and left to join the two pieces together, to produce a result of 265 x 6.

However, I can't find any feature in FW that will allow me to do. Any kind of delete or cut simply seems to leave an empty space of (transparent?), while leaving unchanged overall width. I can select a rectangle and crops, leaving the content and eliminating everything out, but I don't seem to be able to do the reverse.

I'm the first person who ever wanted to do something like that? Or am I missing some simple functionality, because I do not understand his name? Or do I need to use a series of steps and assemble a new parts of the original picture? (If the latter, please tell me what measures to use).

Save 2 versions of the image. Who will be the left side of the new image, crop and harvest the other who will be on the right side. Make sure the first cropped image width plus the width of the second cropped image is 265px. Copy both cropped images to a new document and organize with the first on the left and the second on the right.
