How to validate if my hot RMAN backup is good

Hello

We currently have hot backup RMAN set to our EBS R12. My problem is that we have not the test server where in
I can test/simulate disaster recovery. How can I be sure my existing backup system full? without
do the effective recovery or restoration? How will I know that my backup meets the complete Checkup, for example if I forgot to
include control files? or if I do not have the file init.ora or spfile.

Thank you very much

MsK

Salvation;

Is it not a dangerous command? What happens if I accidentally run without the command "commit"? It will replace my Prod database?

I've used several times this command without any problem (Please check metalink note) and Yes he might try to restore your db on your database of existing, I suggest you be very careful when you type this command.

PS: Run this command on the first test to try to make it work on prod. When you run this command, you will see some restoration line, it claims just as a restore with your existing backup database

10g is desupported for a long time.
Your question is you backup to a network drive.
The solution provided by Donald Burleson is correct.
Why the site no longer works is not clear that you provide no error message, or whatever.
Course, a simple solution would be to buy an extra drive to connect directly to the server.
Your post is poorly understood why you plan to implement that.
Also, your statement on the test server is far too vague. You did not yet provide no error message.

  • How to remove a deleted database RMAN backups?

    Hi people,

    1, created a 10g database
2, rman (with recovery catalog) to create and manage backups
3, dropped to the database (I forgot to use the drop backup option)

Is it possible to purge with rman backups now? Or will I have to manually delete all the files?

    Thanks in advance

    rogers42

You can cancel the registration of catalogue database, but you must delete the backups manually. To uregister execute under connection as the owner of the catalog. First get DBID form rc_database view and anticipate that, as an argument to the procedure below:

     exec dbms_rcvcat.unregisterDatabase(db_id => 3888161139);

  • Hot RMAN backup requires archivelog all the time?

    Hi all

consider: a dml operation is running in oracle database 11 g. After a while he completed and published a statement commit. Now, I took a full hot backup with rman. but backup of archivelog dint take (its must I know, but I want to know if we can do incomplete recovery using only the full backup and the database open with RESETLOGS option?

Kindly let me know if we can do incomplete recovery using only full database backup, or we must need archivelog to open the database?

    Kind regards

Tell your DATABASE BACKUP begins at 01:00 and ends at 01:50. At a minimum, you must save the Archivelogs from 01:00 for the first archivelolg after 01:50.  Technically you don't need the archivelogs in until 01:00. However, if you want to make a point in time recovery (which is a MUST for any production database), you should also save the archivelogs "earlier", which can be used with the last database backup.

Your commitment does NOT guarantee that the database files are immediately updated - DBWR differs "lazily" writing in database files.  Your commitment is preserved in the online redo log. This should be archived an Archivelog and saved.

    Hello

Both are good only... If you took the clod backup (managed by the user), you can also do with RMAN catalog.

I feel clod RMAN backup is good.

    Reason:

    ======

++ with RMAN you can avoid used used block, you can only backup used blocks

++ RMAN has its own compression algorithm

++ We also have the ability to assign multiple channels to parallelize the backup

How to create a database to Server-2 based on the RMAN backup I took in server-1.

It's to help me create a server test and even if the server-1 crash, then I can create a database in the new server-2 with backup I took on the external HARD drive.

  • How to restore RMAN backups

    Hello

I tried to include works of RMAN Oracle 12 c

If I use the following command, I should have the backuppiece and the archivelog saved in a folder:

    RMAN > BACKUP database DATA PLUS ARCHIVELOG;

If I ran this command in 4 different days, which I ended up having 4 folders with different inside files

I guess that, in these files, I have the data files and the archivelogs

Now I move these folders to tape, re-cutting the backups and delete expired

Say that in a month, I need one of these backups if I put a band records and I added start with 'c:\path_of _restored_folder _L', so I added all files in the folder that I restored from tape

Now, if I try to restore the basis of all is well but when I run the recover, it is missing some archiving logs it says

If I put all the files for 4 days then he finds the archivelog she needs and pick up without problem

on this basis I understand that in the folder containing a backuppiece of a specific day there is the newspaper of archive that I needed to recover from the DB, is that true? How can I know if the backups folder I need to replace in order to have all the required log archiving?

At the moment my DB retrieves only if I handed out the Ribbon last backup folder, if I handed out the previous, it restores, but is not recover

Also I have this configuration of the oracle recovery 3 days window maintains backups in order to be able to restore and recover the last 3 days and he simply deletes all obsolete if the FRA is full

I tried earlier to set up the window of 3 days as a test recovery

I ran a few backups and after that I ran the 5th FRA leak out of space and the backup fails

I expect rman to remove the old backup and make way for a new that I have 5 backuppiece and the FRA is full, why he not do?

    Thank you

The default behavior of RECOVER is to make a full recovery - right until the transactions today.  So it must all archivelogs.

If you want to restore and recover to a point in time, use the SET clause to THAT specify a sequence of the newspaper or time or SNA.  Oracle will then not get beyond that point in time - that is to say he will not seek further archiving logs.

(Ideally, when you restore an old backup, I also begins to restore the old controlfile, then using this controlfile).

If you use the FRA in this way

    a. set db_recovery_file_dest_size and db_recovery_file_dest

    b. * not * used a FORMAT clause in the BACKUP command

Oracle will recognize all backups in the FRA (you can check by querying V$ FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA_USAGE before and after the backup).

In this case, Oracle can and will automatically purge outdated backups - that is to say any backup older than the retention period, provided that there is at least a L0 or backup complete closest to the retention period.  You should see messages to this effect in the alert of the instance database log file.

  • How knowledge/check if the RMAN backup was performed using a current control file or database catalog?

    Hello

How knowledge/check if the RMAN backup was performed using a current control file or database catalog? I mean RMAN prompt or sqlplus is it possible to know.

    Thank you

    You're welcome my friend

You can see them using two methods.

as I mentioned above, you can see them connect to the catalog database and you can query using the view that I sent

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmreprt.htm#BRADV89601

the other method is the list command, you must use the list command after connecting using rman "rman target / catalog cat_user/cat_pass@catdbtns" command

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmreprt.htm#BRADV8136

Check the value of the control_file_record_keep_time parameter. The default value is 7 days. in the output of the list command, if you can see the old backups to the value, you must be sure that the backup information comes from the catalogue database

    SELECT * FROM parameter $ v where name = 'control_file_record_keep_time '.

    an example of command list

the list of completed database before backup ' sysdate-10'.
