  Version 8 iMovie is not compatible with El Capitan, so you must upgrade to iMovie 10.1.2. To connect to the App Store and look under the purchased Tab. Find iMovie and Garage Band.   Here are a few updates, you must have the application, as says the message.  I have 9 film was provided as part of iLife 11 on a DVD.  Copies are still available on Amazon, but note that iMovie 9 will not work properly if you update the operating system to El Capitan.

  A mac to mid-2014 would come with iMovie 10.0.  If you go to the App Store and log in with the Apple ID used when the new Mac has been implemented you should find iMovie 10 under purchases and be able to download it again for free.  If you are not the original owner of the Mac, you can buy iMovie 10.1.1 on the App Store.

  to make it quite clear, Lightroom can't sync between two desktop computers. It can synchronize between only one computer and one or more mobile devices. Synchronization between computers has been a very requested feature, but Adobe has not given us yet. You will need to designate one of your computers as your main machine mounting and synchronization here. There are tricks to get all changes from one computer to another in phase, but these are not negligible and may corrupt catalog if you're not careful.

  If iMovie v.10 was installed when you purchased the mac you should be able to re - download for free from the App Store when you are connected with the same identifier Apple that was used when you set up the new Mac.  If you have iMovie 9 or an earlier version, you will need to reinstall iLife DVD provided with the mac.

  The problem is: iMovie changes the video content with no intention of me either! Yes, it's true!

  The input mp4 file I use is: 1080 (w) x 1920 (h) and in portrait mode.

  The output of the iMovie file is: 1920 (w) x 1080 (h) and my video application is confined within a thickness of blackborders...

  How can I stop this from happening? I looked around for options for some time. There seems to be no cure, or is it?

  iMovie works in format 16 x 9. When you add a clip that is the portrait mode and select Insert in the toolbar of harvest that you get the black bars you see.
