  It could be called, but I've never lived it! I downloaded Adobe Reader XI, and when I tried to open a pdf file, Adobe has begun... and disappeared! I thought I had done something wrong, so I tried once more, but with the same result! I found that I wanted to have the old version (X) back, then I unloaded XI and reinstalled X, but you know what? Now the same thing has happened with the old version! There is certainly something wrong here, but what? I think I tried everything that is supposed to, but have developed in white!   Two things to try:

  • using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x 86) \Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, and then double-click Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
  • can you open Reader by itself?  If so, try to disable the Protected Mode [Edit |] Preferences | Security (enhanced)]

• How can I get the Adobe Reader software, but NOT the "DC" Cloud version?

  For years, I appreciated the help of the original Adobe Reader that would allow me to view PDFs via Windows Viewer or my other software, just, as I used to be able to do. Now, it seems that Adobe requires this convoluted "DC" on users version. I don't want to. I don't need all these so-called features.   Pat was referring to the previous post above that says: [Adobe Reader |] Change | Preferences | (Improved) security].

  This means that you can navigate to Adobe Reader > menu "Edit", then select "Preferences". A new wil windo como screen o. on the left column, select "Security (Enhanced)" and on the side right you will then see the option to disable the protected mode.

  Your account on this computer is not a system administrator account. It is a common practice on the workstations. It can save a lot of headaches for companies.
