MPEG Streamclip will is no longer open / play mp4s etc.

Hello

I recently had to reinstall OS X 10.11.3 and all other open source and license purchased software on my Mac HD.

The unique free MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2 will recognize the title of the file mp4 (present in the control of the application window), but says ' open file error: unknown file type '.

By clicking on the button 'Open Anyway' brings up the window "open file error: cannot find audio or video tracks" warning.

This free program is unique in that, although it is free, it only allows users to change the size of the video image, change brightness, contrast and saturation if necessary and convert to a range of alternative formats.

Other users of MPEG Streamclip knows this inability to open mp4 and other video format files in El Capitan 10.11.3 (MPEG Streamclip worked well under 10.11.2 and previous OS X versions?  I will be grateful for any advice you can offer.

Best regards, paulranger1.

I also have problems with MPEG Streamclip on El Capitan. He has worked on the Mavericks (I don't know Yosemite). Recently I bought a new iMac with El Capitan and MPEG Streamclip now sets out the MISTLETOE strangely, mainly transport timeline bar. Also when playing .mov or mp4 files it chops on the upper segment of the image (about a third). I think there must be compatibility issues with Streamclip and El Capitan, like on my old Mac (with the Mavericks) it works fine. Aaagghhh!

  • Y at - it a codec that will allow swf files to play in WMP?

original title: reading of SWFs in Windows Media Player

Y at - it a codec that will allow swf files to play in WMP?

When you try to play your local .swf files in Windows Media Player, you probably will be greeted with a message saying that your Internet Explorer security settings do not allow this type of file to open (ActiveX control). This is due to the fact that Windows Media Player uses its own security Internet Explorer security settings. Therefore, these .swf files will play in Internet Explorer; the reason being that the Protected Mode is DISABLED when a local disk file is opened. But Windows Media Player makes no such concession, all ActiveX controls are not allowed.

The problem arises in the Lockdown of the area feature Local computer. Windows Media Player must load the control of Flash Player to play the SWF file. But this lock prevents the automatic loading of the Flash Player control (remember, all orders are considered dangerous in WMP)!

However, do not despair. This problem can be easily solved by a simple change in the registry. There are two ways you could do it - choose the one that you feel most comfortable with.

Method 1 - automatic registry change (use if you have never used before registry editor):
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open a new Notepad document. Copy and paste the following two lines of text to the blank document...

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Lockdown_Zones\0]
    "1200" = DWORD: 00000000

Save the document as "wmp_swf.reg" (the .reg extension sets the file as a registration entry). Save it in a directory of your choice. This could be the office or in your Documents folder. Close the Notepad window.

Now, navigate to the file to the location where you saved it just. Right-click on the file and choose "Merge" in the menu. Windows may ask permission to continue, click 'Continue' or 'OK '. That's all! Windows Media Player will now play all your local .swf files without complaining.

Method 2 - manual registry editing (for the more experienced users of the registry editor):
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open the Registry Editor (IE run "regedit.exe" and give Windows permission to continue).

Browse your way to the next folder...

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Lockdown_Zones\0

In this folder '0' (zero), look for the entry "1200 REG_DWORD 0 x 00000003 (3)" in the display pane.

Right-click on the '1200' and choose 'change... '. ». Change the value to highlight '3' to '0 '. Press OK. The entry is now shown as "1200 REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)» Close the registry editor.

This simple procedure to now Windows Media Player read the local .swf files.

Now you have finished this fix, it may be useful to change the opening program by default for your .swf to Windows Media Player files. I find it more convenient than playing them through Internet Explorer.

  • Windows Media Player 12 will not play mp4, mp3, wmv files through IIS hosted local site when the PC is disconnected from the Internet

I have an IIS Web site 6.1 on local 32-bit Windows 7 machine that serves HTML and MP4 videos via Internet Explorer on the local computer.  An internet connection is not necessary because it is all local storage and local accommodations through IIS.  IIS is configured to serve the MP4 videos in the form of downloadable files, don't not streaming somehow.  I have the right MIME type ".mp4" with the installation of "video/mp4" in the IIS server, so I don't think that's the problem.

When the machine is connected to the internet, by clicking on a video link MP4 in any HTML page served by the local IIS server results in Windows Media Player opening and playing the video in its own window.  However, when the Ethernet cable is unplugged, by clicking on the same results of video link MP4 in Windows Media Player by opening its own window, and then display this error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file.  If the file is on the Internet, connect to the Internet.  If the file is on a removable storage card, insert the storage card.

It's almost as if Windows Media Player has a bug and since it accesses this media file via a URL, but the machine is not connected to a network, he thinks that this file is unplayable.

When the Ethernet cable is disconnected, the local IIS server is still all the HTML code and ActiveX content except for media files.  I also tried to access MP3 and WMV files via the IIS server to see if Windows Media Player will open those when the computer is disconnected from the Internet.  These caused also Windows Media Player files display the same error message.

I tried the VLC (VideoLAN) Player after changing the property file in VLC of WMP for .mp4 files extension.  With VLC installed and the extension changed to VLS property, I can download/open the MP4 video using the link in the web page served by IIS all when they are disconnected from the internet.  The only thing I can't do is get VLC player to open and play the video simply by clicking on the link in Internet Explore web pages served by the local IIS server.

I would like to make use of Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player with this IIS server that serves the MP4 videos rather than using VLC player.

    Thank you

    Michael Rayman

I finally found the answer to my problem:

When they are disconnected from the internet, mysteriously, Windows Media Player 12 requires that you check a checkbox in tools > Options... > zone settings tab player called "Internet connection (ignore the other commands).  Once this box is checked and the settings saved on APPLY, then Windows Media Player 12 will play videos served by the local IIS server on the same machine, while disconnected from the Internet.

This problem may be caused by an extension that is not working properly.

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions of the origin of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).
