NEF files launch app

That's what I get with almost all of the NEF files:

"file. NEF"is damaged and cannot be opened. You must move it to the trash.

The files seem to be intact, I can open the bridge itself or Photoshop, just can not launch applications from the file.

First of all, they were transferred with iPhoto, which is suspicious, but also does not explain why some of them work very well.

Anyone? Thank you

If the problem persists without using iPhoto for the transfer

It must be a typo and instead of iPhoto, you mean Adobe Photo Downloader?

You can use iPhoto in combination with ACR, because each of them have their own method of conversion of Raw files.

Hello and good day, I used Photoshop CS4 and bridge and worked on raw .nef files.

I launch Adobe bridge, point to the folder that includes files to JPEG and nef. each file that is

  • Is no longer able to display NEF files in Bridge or change in Camera Raw 4.6

I found similar issues in different Adobe forums, but I did not find a solution to my problem.

    Bridge CS3

    Photoshop CS3 Extended

    XP

    Camera Raw version 4.6.0.30

    Nikon D300s

Until 2 weeks ago, I copy my files NAVE of my CF card by the reader, open the bridge by selecting thumbnail of the NAVE and by opening in Photoshop CS3. How I can deal with Camera Raw 4.6.

Now, once copied new files NAVE and open deck, I see only icons of the NAVE. When I double click on the file, Photoshop opens and a box will appear with the following text: could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.

By controlling the differences between the NEF files that I can change and new NEF files that I can't, I notice in the metadata file of properties that the application of successful files is worm. 2.00 and failed them is ver 1.00.

What 'application' refers the metadata? I think that this can be a parameter of Nikon, but it would help me to better understand the problem if I knew what "app" is.

I can convert the new NEF files to jpg using Adobe DNG Converter, but it GREATLY complicates a simple workflow process before.

Thank you for any light that can be shed on the painful dilemma,

    Kate

I checked my metadata and the version of the application is 1,00 and thumbs work very well.  This suggests that this version of the application has nothing to do with what you said your photos App. V 1.00 are missed.   The jury is still out on what means Application.

I should have checked the 'list' to see what the ACR was necessary for a D300.  Since you have not mentioned that you use 2 different cameras that slipped by me.  ACR 5.x has CS4.  You can upgrade to CS5 (coming soon) or convet to the NEF to DNG.

  • Can I auto launch apps without logging in?

    Hello

I would like to run an application on a calendar (an application to record the radio). I would firstly the iMac so that it comes on just before the recording is due, I would then like the app to open and run (he has his own programmer). Finally, I would like to put the iMac will stop when the application has finished recording.

Now I know how to set the iMac to turn on and off on a schedule, I know how to configure auto run apps in the Journal, what I want to know is how auto launch apps without logging in (as I won´t be there). If this isn´t is possible, is it possible to auto connect you to a regular start upward and then set the iMac to lock quickly?

    Thank you

You need to activate the automatic connection. Note that this would bypass your password.

 > System Preferences > users and groups > Connection Options (unlock lower-left) > set auto-connect to your user, and then type your password. Restart the computer to make sure that it works correctly.

You can change the settings for the capacity of your computer as well so it's not sleep while your computer is idle.

 > System Preferences > energy saver > sleep display the value a long enough time to check at the end.

EDIT: There is no way to launch an application without being connected. If you're really worried about your information accessed by unauthorized users, I recommend the implementation of another user on the computer that you use only for this registration program. Then configure your computer to use an automatic connection on this new account. Note that it will then sign in this user whenever you turn on the computer until you disable the automatic connection.

  • Problem with opening of Nikon NEF files

    Separated from this thread.

I have the same problem with a single Nikon reflect the lens of the camera.  He said that it is a NEF file type.  And windows media player does not recognize and cannot play.  Help, please.

    Hello

NEF files are owner of Nikon RAW format and cannot be opened in Windows Media Player.

You have a few options, including:

    • Download and install Nikon ViewNX2 which can open NEF files.
    • Install Microsoft Camera Codec Pack which will then allow your NEF files to be perceived as file/Windows Explorer and the Windows Photo Gallery (check your camera for taking pictures is listed in the Details section, or it may not work). The links are:

Microsoft Camera Codec Pack  (Windows Vista/Windows 7)

Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (Windows 8.1)

    • Use the photo editing software owner (with necessary plug-ins installed if necessary) to open and edit NEF images.

When you open an NEF image in an application, you should then be able to record it in a much more widely supported such as JPG image format. There will be a loss of quality when you do well, but still, good results can be obtained.  Once in JPG format (for example), Windows Media Player will be able to open the images.

If you don't want to use NEF files in the future, your camera should be able to take/save directly the images in JPG format. Check the settings of your camera.

  • Hard to edit NEF files in Ps CS6 from Lr

    Hello friends

I use Lr CC 2015 for these past few weeks and I suddenly have problems of editing the NEF files in my Ps CS6. LR is giving me a prompt Camara 9.6 gross required and there are three options to choose from. If I choose open with Lr, then the files is due open in Ps CS6 but with additional problems that add trouble to my workflow. If you choose the option shown above, then a PSD file is automatically created which is automatically added to the collection of catalogue /-that I don't want. As I finish my montages in the CS6 Ps and save the file as a JPEG, this new JPEG file is NOT automatically get registered in the collection as part of the stack - which has been a part of my default workflow from Lr began "stacking" characteristic. In fact, even a few weeks back there is no problem by opening NEF files in CS6 and after mounting, those were to me collection automatically added as part of the battery with the original RAW file.

I don't want the PSD files, but I want the JPEG file to add that happening before.

So please help me to solve this problem.

    Thank you

LR imports only the documents that you use to register with, not save as.

You use edit in PS, select Open in any case one of the 3 options data when he complains of needing ACR 9.6, which should result in your seeing a NAVE in the title bar of the open document, not a TIF or PSD, then you can do save (not save under) which will automatically lead to the top save it under where you can select JPG format and it should automatically be included in your catalog.  The reason to register slot, even if you have chosen to record is because you cannot save in the document of the NAVE which is listed in the title bar and it generates automatically allows recording to jpg.

If you edit in PS and LR create a PSD or TIF on the way in PS, as you describe as what you do, now, then your backup will simply save as TIF or PSD document even once, which will include as TIF or PSD in LR and any attempt to save as to a JPG does not include the JPG.

If you previously received a JPG in LR so it's because you were doing a Save not save as.  Something changed with your workflow, where you meet LR generate a TIF or PSD.  This is the reason why the jpg files are is automatically included.

If you are is more invited three options that include open anyway as you do an Edit in PS, maybe you chose not to show once again, when he asked you and he jumps just ask and do whatever you chose this last time.  If this is what is happening, then go in LR preferences and click Reset all WARNING Dialogs going ask that even once and you can choose open anyway when he complained of needing 9.6 ACR.

Of course, to use the software as designed, would be to use PS CC 2015.5 with LR CC 2015.6.1 and it should work without problems, except for a reason, you still use CS6.

    --

I asked if you were using edit in PS or else to go to the PS, because you could also have defined photoshop.exe a third external editor and call it directly using change in PS.exe, bypassing the normal editing in PS.  A third editor always creates a TIF or PSD.

  • Suddenly unreadable NEF files in Lightroom

    Hello

I'm starting to work on photos taken with Nikon D90 (NEF files) a few days ago.

I renamed with Lightroom, some of them and the pictures become illegible with Lightroom (I can see them but not edit them or export) and Windows File Explorer (an error message appears and I can't see the pictures)

I can read with Fastone viewer and Nikon ViewNX.

On the picture you can see the sign! This means that the files are unreadable and the French message "the file cannot be opened in Lightroom" means "the file cannot be opened in Lightroom.

    Lightroom problem 01.JPG

    Lightroom problem 02.JPG

It seems the problem happens when I rename the pictures because I can read and modify the files with the old name, but not the new name one.

Could you help me to solve the problem and explain to me what is happening?

Sorry for my bad English and I hope be clear

    Thank you for your help

    Olivier

I saw two different icons exclamation point in Lightroom. This one seems to indicate you don't have the right version of Lightroom, or it seems to be a corruption of file, so the message may not be read. What version of Lightroom do you use?

In addition, other exclamation point icon produced an error message indicating that the file is missing.

  • DNG not recognize the NEF files

Recently, I downloaded and installed Adobe DNG Converter.  However, when I navigate to the folder where the NEF files are and double-click "No. Items MAtch Your Search.  However, if I simply click on the file once and then click on select files will convert.  Why didn't - it NOT the files that appear in the right pane select a Source folder?  I assumed, from there you would be able to select the files you want to convert if you do not want to convert all.  Any help would be greatly appreciated that I completely freed on bail by trying to update the ACR.

I would recommend that you download the latest version (9.6.1), unless you have an older operating system which will not support it.

Mac: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter: for Macintosh

Win: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter: for Windows

Out of curiosity, what device are you using? Which will affect the minimum ACR or DNG version you need.

  • Can't converte my. NEF files. DNG

There are days, I bought a Nikon D3300 and started shooting in RAW format. I thought I was going to be avaible to import photos directly into Lightroom, but it seems I was mistaken. I googled and read some articles and decided to turn my. NEF files. DNG import them. I downloaded the latest version of DNG Converter for Mac (DNGConverter_9_6.dmg), but I could not select one of my photos. I have attached a screenshot where you can see that I use the DNG Converter and try to select the photos I want to convert.

    Thank you.

    Hello

This is because you can not choose the images unique to convert; Instead, you must select the folder that contains them.

BTW, Nikon D3300 is supported since Lightroom 5.4; What version do you use?

  • How can I solve the problem of the LR 5.7 do not import does not. NEF files?

5.7 LR won't matter. D810 NEF files.  Any suggestions? I don't have this problem w of earlier versions of LR.

All versions of camera specific need, or more version of LR to read RAW files.

Look here for the specific version of LR that takes care of your camera.

Devices supported by Adobe Camera Raw

You need at least this version or later to import RAW files directly.

I also suggest that you update LR V5 in the 5.7.1 updated.

    Update of Lightroom

Closer to the bottom of the page, you will find the 5.7.1 update.

You can also use the Adobe DNG converter program to convert newer files of the NAVE of the Nikon camera to the DNG file format so those who will be important in the old version of LR that don't specifically support your new camera.

    Digital negative converter Adobe 9.x

Just download the version of OS you are using, Mac or Windows.

  • Opening NEF files?

I have Photoshop Elements 7.  I would like to open NEF files that are version BRUTE of photos taken by my Nikon D3100 but had no luck.  What is the procedure for that?  Photoshop elements 14 do it easier?

    See this faq:

FAQ: Photoshop Elements will work with my camera, or why does not open my raw files?

This means that each camera model has its own raw format: NEF is only the name of a family of formats from Nikon.

The D3100 requires a module plugin ACR 6.3.

It is not possible in 7 elements, it is only compatible with Elements 9 or newer.

14 items would open these files (it has version 9.5)

Your free solution if you don't want to upgrade is the Adobe DNGconverter mentioned in the faq above.

This independent software (not a plugin used from the elements) can batch convert that an entire folder of your NEF files to DNG as your Elements 7 raw format can read and modify.

  • Why can't import of Nikon NEF files in Lightroom 6?

I bought Lightroom 6 recently, and he has now upgraded to the latest version. I use a mac as El Capitan.

Normally, I shoot and import the jpg files from my Nikon D5300, but thought I would try shooting RAW. However, despite the fact that the camera is supported and the help of Adobe pages confirm that there should not be a problem, the file will not import directly from the memory card.  Lightroom displays thumbnail images of photos - as usual - but then comes up error message, that the files were not imported because they could not be read. Nor NEF files copy as DNG on the hard drive.

I went through all the settings and spent hours reading the forums.  I know that I'm probably going to convert files, but it would be great if it worked right. What is the problem here?

    Hi giuliamary,

Seems that your place of destination is not properly defined.

Make sure that the location of 'TO' in the top right of the import window is correctly set and a full read and write permissions.

  • Importing NEF in Nikon d5500 has been added where previously I imported my old Nikon D3100 camera nef files successfully

I'm struggling to import my raw files from my new camera on my software.  I don't see that I should change my setting on my software, my files are already downloaded on my computer and sit in my folder of photos as nef files.

    Anyone can please help.

    Thanks Susan

According to the table of Adobe, you need Lightroom version 6.0 or later for a Nikon 5500.  (https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html ).

Adobe offers a solution for those who prefer not to invest upgrades, called the DNG Converter. ( https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/adobe-dng-converter.html ).  It's free.

If you use it as part of your routine to copy files from your card to your computer it will make new RAW files to DNG from Adobe for your Nikon RAW files format.  There is no loss of quality or characteristics.  Older versions of the software Adobe will read the most recent image files if they are to DNG.
